Before the launch of the PS5, there were some rumors circulating that Sony's newest console would be able to natively play discs from all eras of Playstion, from PS1 to PS5; that obviously didn't happen. I have yet to pull the trigger on a PS5, but I would have lined up day one for that kind of machine, and I would have paid an absurd price for it too. I'm sure this machine will probably never come to fruition, but I think there's definitely demand for it, and if Sony marketed it correctly, I think they could capitalize on the nostalgia of gamers without taking too much of a risk.
I realize the cost of this would probably be considerably more expensive due to the odd architecture of the PS3, but I would pay a premium, probably upward of $1,000.
Now, Sony isn't just going to build me this dream machine on a whim because it would be expensive for them to design and construct, but what if they announced such a console and the only way to get it would be through an open pre-order system akin to something like Limited Run Games. Hell, they could even mandate a minimum number of orders to guarantee production, almost like a Kickstarter. Now, I'm not a huge fan of mega corporations essentially kickstarting their products, but in a case where there would be some considerable risk, I don't have as much issue.
What say you? How much would you pay for this mythical machine that I'm almost positive will never see the light of day.
They should make forward ports of those games stranded on PS3 that people care about. Sony should be able to see what was bought in the recent fear of missing out incident and what’s streamed on PlayStation now and bring those to PS5.
Expensive custom hardware wouldn’t benefit many people I already own a PS5 and I’m not going to replace it with one that’s twice as expensive in order to play PlayStation three games in the original state.
My original experience with the PlayStation 3 was on a low resolution CRT which was the retro equivalent of performance mode. I suspect going back on a modern TV would not be a pleasant experience.
I wouldn't pay a dime. this would only benefit people who play single-player games. If someone plays multiplayer most of their time , then this legacy console is no use. I prefer online gaming than offline .
