I completed Skate Story a few days ago, and I quite enjoyed my time with it. However, I was chatting to the guy who reviewed the game for GamesRadar, and his brought up some very insightful points that had me feeling a bit differently about it. Personally, I thought that while the detailed descriptions were nice, they were far too superfluous. It's as if the game wants to be some kind of flowery novella, and I feel the descriptions mask how hollow the characters are. I did enjoy their quirks and some of the tasks you participate in are cool, but then there's the matter of the "bush league" game design. The game's use of language is very obtuse.
First thing to note about the game design is that there's no move tutorial to be found, so tricks need to be memorized. Second of all, the GamesRadar reviewer mentioned that the game gave him motion sickness-now I know that's a very subjective experience for him, but visually it does look like a bit too much to handle. In addition, the camera can be fiddly and just like with the skate games, it's too fixed towards the player's backside that the controls are also left feeling more awkward than they should be. I also don't like how the game forces you to perform specific tricks when you're attached to a gold chain and trying to break something open.
