We're so close to its release. I got money back from my energy bill, so I'm contemplating spending some of it to buy something nice for myself. It'll be interesting to experience this alongside the community.
So it looks like Saros has reviewed extremely well which has made me so happy, all we have to hope for now is for the wider gaming audience to buy the game and hopefully love it, then that will make Hoursemarque one of the top studios under the Sony umbrella.

I’m not surprised at all by the aggregate scores being around 9/10. I did skim the PS review, even though I’ve already preordered and didn’t need it for decision making purposes. Most of what I read sounded great. A few new wrinkles do make it sound like a clear evolution from Returnal.
Edit: oh, and one thing the review didnt mention was any Pro specific perks. The base PS5 runs at 60 fps 99% of the time they said, and the Pro eliminates any drops (1% of the time? 😅) so basically sounds identical. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t some other Pro boosts. No added ray tracing? No unlocked frame rate to get closer to 90-120?
Edit 2: So I found the quotes from Housemarque about how the game differs on Pro. No unlocked FR but mostly just added graphical fidelity. Here’s the quote—
“On PlayStation 5 Pro we also increased our base render resolution, which is the resolution before upscaling. This means on PS5 Pro, you will have an even clearer higher resolution image at 60 fps. While we use dynamic resolution to ensure stable frame rate even in the middle of hectic combat, PS5 Pro always delivers a sharper image in a scene-to-scene comparison.
Saros on PS5 already looks incredible and runs at rock solid 60fps, but for PS5 Pro we push our graphics even further. Furthermore, there are many small adjustments in reflections and overall quality, ensuring that the increase is not only more pixels, but also the content we render scales up to match. The only place where we switch to 30fps is in key story cinematics where we go quality over quantity and render the high quality characters, lighting and postprocessing at peak resolution – which again is higher on PS5 Pro.”
@Th3solution Yeah I'm little bummed it's "only" 60FPS but as long as it's rock solid 60FPS then I'm fine with that, and who knows maybe that could a future patch (inhales copium while typing that).

I like Skillup and usually respect his reviews, but I am worried that him and many other reviewers who are saying this game is approachable still don't know how just out of touch they are with regular gamers. Game looks dope. I hope that most people are actually capable of playing and enjoying it.
I've only got the base PS5 but I'm still happy to hear that level of performance. It looks really fluid in motion and I'm not sure I'm going to notice the slightly lower resolution whilst I'm running for my life. That's the trouble with all this Digital Foundry stuff, you need to do like a 500x zoom on it to even see what they are talking about and when you are playing the game you're focused on the action anyway.
I'd probably be saying something different if I owed a Pro
@render Yeah, with this specific game the difference in visual fidelity is not going to be as noticeable I would guess. Using Returnal as a comparison, it will likely be such a fast paced and kinetic game that dynamic resolution won’t make as much difference as the frame rate and the art design. The use of color, lighting, and textures will all surely make the game quite a looker regardless of pixel count. It’s why I was more hopeful that they pushed the frame rate for the Pro version, but apparently not. Could be in the cards for a post launch patch though.

@Oram77 I like Simon Cardy but the rest of IGNs critics and main staff don't really click for me. Still hate Metacritics "weighted score" system which gives sites more popular a bigger effect on the score. It makes little sense and is extremely obtuse.
@Metonymy I also bought physical, I usually do with First party games, may buy the outfits at a later date, but I do find early access for single player games kinda cringe...

Another one who bought physical here.
I have Returnal on disc too. I sell back the vast majority of my games, especially if they are also available on PS+ (and in fact when I played Returnal DLC a couple months ago I just downloaded it from PS+ rather than get my disc out), but my favorites I like to keep. Mostly as an item to collect, and a token of my own experiential memory.
