@JohnnyShoulder Dang, that’s right— Control Resonant too… jeez I forgot about that one. I might want to play it right away also.
I couldn’t care less about GTA, but another that I’ll be tempted for day 1 is Wolverine. Others that might be tempting, depending how reviews and hype goes— First Light and Phantom Blade Zero. Probably will end up waiting on those though.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@JohnnyShoulder My year is stacked with day one purchases Saros, First Light, Control 2, Wolverine, GTA6 being definite day one purchases. Maybe Fable, PB0 and Pragmata if they score well.
I ruddy loved Returnal and the thread and the thread on here was amazing as quite a few of us were all playing it around the same time encouraging each other on and then offering support for people playing afterwards. I never got the platinum though as the RNG was too much for me, particularly playing without the ability to save.
This looks amazing though but god knows how long it will take me to get through it now I'm a dad gamer
@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, lots of those are real improvements although I never really felt you had to slog back through old biomes in Returnal as there were always plenty of shortcuts to get to them or around them. You often needed to do a bit of a run to level up anyway so it'll be interesting to see how they balance that.
Either way, still looking forward to it and hope the boss fights are as epic as Returnal
I've been terrible at posting on here lately but reading through this bought back memories of playing Returnal. I remember how much of a struggle it was at times to get past those insane boss fights, and sometimes even just the challenge rooms, but I also remember how amazing it was to get to the next biome and experience that for the first time. Great game. I'm hoping more of the same from Saros and I'm definitely diving in day 1. Can't wait!!
I think the latest clip from the article just encapsulates just how good HM are, from the tight controls to the amazing enemy designs, oh that song playing is a certified banger, can't wait to listen to the whole OST. I think the only thing I'm gutted about is there will be no steelbook, yeah I understand it may sell like gang busters but man just imagine if this artwork was used as the cover for it:
@Oram77 I'm still surprised we have no DualSense or Steelbook collectors edition. Saros seems like the kinda game to have a more hardcore but niche playerbase who'd pay more for that.
@Oram77 Have they mentioned an art-book yet? It's the kind of game I'll never play because just the word bullet-Hell makes me anxious, that kind of mile a moment movent and the 'don't die', it's a lot. At the same time the level design, art, cinematography look fantastic. I'll probably end up getting the score and art if they release some and maybe leave it at that. It seems like the kind of genre that attracts a specific player, I've never tried a bullet-Hell game, I've seen some, those are Matrix level reactions/inputs. Even Hades was a bit much and that was a beautiful game, Dead Cells I think respected my pace, they aren't the same genre but pace-wise they seem similar.
@cainhurst94 Maybe James Bond beat them to it, when I saw the First Light one last night it was gold and at first glance I thought it was a Saros one. All they'd have to do for Saros is jet black with some gold detailing and the logo on the touch-pad.
These violent delights have violent ends & in their triumph die, like fire & powder Which, as they kiss, consume.
@cainhurst94 Yeah I feel like it's a crying shame for Saros not to have any sort of physical collectors edition, but hey if Saros sells well then maybe Sony will give them a larger budget for their next project 🤞
@GirlVersusGame I don't believe they haven't announced any sort of merch for Saros, which is shocking to be honest with you! I can only speak for myself but genuinely didn't find Returnal all that difficult think my first death was in the third biome. I would say these games boil down to how quick are your reactions to things some of the areas/bosses can be a real test. But once you master the controls and go on a god run, there are very games that match it, I'm sure other Returnal players would agree with that statement. Not sure if you have extra/premium but it's on there, so hey maybe worth a try down the road.
@Oram77 They have announced Insert Coin will be releasing merch from what I've seen. Only problem is... Insert Coins quality is bad for the prices they charge
Specifically I wanted to tag @CJD87 — I hope this finds you well. Not sure if you’re regularly checking the forums but, I recall you were a huge fan of Returnal and wondering your thoughts on Saros. I’m playing Forbidden West and was browsing that game’s (now locked) thread and your comments there brought you to mind. I remember your infectious enthusiasm for Returnal in the early days. Your posts on the HFW thread a couple years ago showed an excitement to get into HZD and HFW, which I think never quite clicked for you and if I recall correctly you ended up selling your PS5. With Saros coming out I wondered if you had any temptation of jumping back in now, as I think I saw a comment that you were toying with the idea. Could Saros coupled with Ghost of Yotei be reason enough to get back on PS5? Unfortunately the price of the consoles is in a bad place. Any plans to treat yourself?
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@JohnnyShoulder Couldn't resist hey!! I had the same problem
I've cleared the decks early so I'm ready for when it drops. I'm pretty sure I've even got Returnal still installed so I might boot that up this week and have a go on the Tower of Sisyphus mode just to get my eye in. It sounds like Saros might be easier in a few different ways but even so I can't believe it's going to be that easy.
@JohnnyShoulder So what was it that made you pull the trigger on the preorder?
@render Same here, I've had Returnal installed since the latest up-date they did, I will definitely be playing that again (and posting clips probably) right after I have finished with Pragmata. Either way we haven't got long to til peak is here.
Thanks for calling me out, as Returnal still lives rent-free in my busy mind.... I genuinely think it is in my top 5 games of all time, and genuinely a gaming experience I will never forget. I recall fondly the early days of "no suspend feature" (!) and having to put PS5 in to rest mode with the game on pause !
Then when Housemarque finally patched in suspend run mode (long overdue) I remember that the update patch for Returnal forced my PS5 to reboot the game and I actually lost a mid-run due to the patch to fix the suspend mode feature (Irony at its finest)
I did indeed sell my PS5 once my job/travel kicked in again, now I have a Switch2 and Steamdeck OLED... which in fairness, that combo allows me to play a lot of what I'm in to. This year alone I got Slay the Spire 2 and Mewgenics on Deck, alongside Resi9 and Pokopia on Switch2. All 4 of those games are absolutey top-tier so I don't feel I'm missing out too much.
Nioh3 definitely got my attention though, I have a great 100 hours platinum'ing the first entry. And of course Saros....! It just looks so great. Funnily enough I actually caught up on Mike Flanagan's Netflix horror shows, House of Usher / Midnight Mass, both of which have Rahul Kohli starring.
I was ready to pull the trigger on a PS5 until the price increases, and now it seems like a bit steep for mainly 1-2 games.
Yotei looks beautiful, but I'm going off open-world a little bit now.
GTA 6 might be the bullet-biter I need, along with Nioh 3 and Saros. If Saros lands well with critics and games, I may well expedite the purchase!
What is your running for GOTY so far, based on what you've played?
My ranking would be:
1) Resi9
2) Pokopia
3) Mewgenics
special mention to Spire2, which would probably be my #1... albeit in EA so I excluded
@CJD87 Ah yes, fair enough. You’ve got plenty of gaming at your disposal with what you have already. I figured that the PS5 price hike might make it a bitter pill. Sony seems to be putting the pressure on though, with shutting down the PC ports and then finally getting their first party output cranking with Saros, GoY, and soon Wolverine. Then of course GTA6 (not a first party but will be a system seller I think, especially for the Pro) and in about a year (maybe?) Intergalactic, among other console exclusives like Phantom Blade Zero.
If you do chose the path of getting a PS5, I’ve enjoyed my Pro immensely so can recommend it for the fullest experience. The asking price is now steep, but if you’ve got yourself a nice TV with the VRR 120Hz capability then it’s worth considering.
Ah, I remember the early days of Returnal so well… those were great memories with the high anticipation of whether the run stayed suspended, or whether the PS5 did an update overnight or if there was a power cut. 😅 I think the general gameplay and enemy difficulty was harder too before the game was patched a few times. No doubt we beat the game in its hardest form. But like you, it stands as one of my top 10 recent (PS4, PS5) experiences, if not top 5.
I probably won’t be on Saros on day 1, simply because I suspect I’ll be in the middle of other gaming experiences, like the aforementioned HFW. If I somehow finish that in the next two weeks, then maybe I’ll let Saros cut in line ahead of other games on my schedule, especially if it reviews really strong. I’m really feeling the hype for it though and it looks fabulous. We’ll see.
Because of my deep backlog, I’ve not played any ‘26 releases so far, so my time has been spent this year with older games. Saros could very well be my first (and maybe only) “new” game to play this year.
I’ll post thoughts on my GOTY over on an alternate thread so I can dive a little deeper into the topic.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
I'll be honest I've never heard of Rahul before this, but he seems like a really nice and honest person, from the snippets we've seen his acting sounds really good, I'll forgive him for being a Liverpool fan because of this
@Th3solution Thanks man! I was flirting with the idea of a Pro... but my monitor/TV definitely wouldn't be taking full advantage, so likely go for Digital Slim (cheapest option on £££....)
