Hi All

I wanted to share the issues I have experienced so far on the Playstation 5 console/software. All this on my console.

1. Demons Souls stuck on loading screen, had to restart console 5 times before I could get it to load

2. Turned on PS5 and no longer displaying on hdmi 4 on my tv. Did the hard reset using power button and still did not display so switched to HDMI 3 and then it displayed. Had to reset Resolution on PS5 and then restart and then started to work.

3. Playing Spiderman Remastered, all of a sudden controller stops communicating with PS5. Thought it was controller so used a pin in reset button on back of controller but nothing. Then ps5 displayed screen saying to connect controller which I did by cable already but nothing. I then tried to restart PS5 by holding in the power button but the console would not turn off. In the end I had no other choice but to pull out mains cable. Then put mains back in and got a repairing data message and the a notice advising you should turn off using power button and not pull out mains but had no other choice. Console and controller then started working ok.

UPDATE 24/11/2020: Turned on console this morning after having the issue as stated above last night and HDR is not shown on my tv even though tv settings and PS5 are set up correctly and PS5 HDR settings are set to automatic. Had to reset tv and now hdr is working again.

4. Playstation 5 seems to be resetting its display settings, hdr turns off and as all display settings in PS5 were set to Automatic it is interacting with my tv and disabling the extended HDMI settings that should allow hdr, 120hz etc.

5. PS5 not recognising my Samsung QE65Q90R TV being 120hz, xbox series x and PC displays fine at 4k 120hz.

6. Quite often when I turn console on I have no audio, hsve to unplug hdmi on PS5 and plug back in again and then works. Just noticed HDR is now off again due to disconnecting and reconnecting hdmi lol.

7. Playing PS5 Spiderman Remastered and did a manual save, as it got to 100% it froze. Screen went black and then console went off. Then tried to restart but PS5 not being recognised on HDMI 4 on tv, switched to HDMI 2 and then PS5 displayed error screen which allowed me to report the issue. After reporting went to dashboard.

That's it so far, not a great experience so far, tried calling Sony but after 1 hour and 10 minutes in queue I gave up.

What problems have you had?

I had the first of these issues earlier on today. Closing, launching another game and going back to Demon’s Souls solved it for me. Apart from that over had no other issues, so far at least...

TheIdleCritic

Apart from a strange whirring noise like a fridge... nothing to report. All the games I've played run fine and the console has not acted strangely.

I need to figure out if my TV is 120 or not. but I don't think so.

Matroska

I've got the fridge-like sound that TheIdleCritic mentioned above - touching the case stops it but it comes back after a while.
I've had the controller totally stop working despite being plugged into the PS5. That led to Spider-Man running off to the left in the middle of combat and climbing a wall. No buttons did anything, not even the PS button, and I had to turn off the console which then gave me the "didn't shut down properly" error when I turned it on again.
I've had the bluray disc spinning up and being quite noisy every so often.
I've had a problem where if HDCP is on I can't stream. If I turn it off, I can't watch stuff like Amazon Prime Video. So I basically have to toggle it on or off based on what I'm trying to do.

I think that's it, otherwise I'm really happy with it.

@TheIdleCritic I saw that there is apparently a label inside where the fan chasis is and it is coming lose. As the fan spins it's hitting the label, but to resolve it you would void the warranty.

@Matroska It's all a bit dissapointing, not what you expect considering the time it's been in development for. Bad testing!

Only issue so far was nat type screwing up and not getting another one for my kids Christmas present

I've had it freeze and then shut down during Miles Morales! I turned it back on and it did its rebuilding mullarkey and has been totally fine since then.

These are the main issues I have had in only a few days and I would love to see fixed with firmware updates.

  • Disc games getting uninstalled at random when you turn off the console. This is apparently very common with friends and I having this occur. The fix is to NOT select 'Copy' after inserting the disc as you would expect. Instead you need to leave it alone and let it eventually install itself, although this can take up to a few minutes to begin.
  • Games defaulting to PS4 versions rather than PS5 on the PS5 system. This occurs in the store and with PS4 'free upgrade' disc versions.
  • Store is missing Sales and the entire DLC sections. The Black Friday sale popped up eventually, but the other sales are not there at all. If the DLC section is there I really cannot find it as the store is very bare bones. My PS4 is still setup just so I can use the store on it.
  • Trophy level percentage progress bar is missing.
  • Amount of games/apps visible on the main dashboard is too low, especially like me if you have a few PS4 indies also installed.
  • Having to go into the System menu to upload/download game saves rather than doing it from the game icon itself is slow, especially when trying to download a PS4 save file among hundreds.
  • Update History is now gone from the game info so you never know what has been fixed/added to games anymore when it isn't just simple bug fixes. This was a nice luxury on PS4 so not sure why they removed it.
  • PS4 not showing any PS5 trophy progress or games (okay, this is PS4 firmware).

These are all minor issues, I know, apart from the first one, but it does feel unfinished. Hopefully Sony gets to fixing them as soon as they can.
While I'm enjoying my PS5 quite a bit, I am somewhat underwhelmed by the dashboard UI. It feels unfinished and like it has been designed by the team that does the Sony TV's UI. It's not terrible, just functional and very basic. Too many button presses or menus to get to what you need is a common issue.
Also it feels like all of their internal testing has been done with all digital games and not discs, as this is where many issues occur. To be fair we do the same as discs are printed right at the end of development, but it seems like a pretty big oversight for a console. Review sites also probably don't experience this issue as they most often get digital review codes rather than discs.
In terms of issues with games, most run fine but Dirt 5 runs pretty badly in all visual modes with a lot of frame rate drops (and should have been called 'Ice' or something instead due to the amount of races taking place on ice and snow!). Crashes quite a bit, too. And Demons Souls now sometimes refuses to boot up since the latest patch. Resetting the PS5 often fixes it, but these are many small issues that are adding up.

@katamariUK Thanks for all of this, it's interesting to hear everyones feedback and issues. Agree that the UI feels unfinished and the testing has not been thorough on this console. Hopefully fixes will come asap.

GoodGame

Last night I was watching YouTube on my PS5, and the console lights flashed and it just turned off.
I tried pressing the PS button on the controller at least 5 times but the PS5 wouldn't turn back on.
I unplugged it, plugged it back in and it turned on.
A message said the Hard Drive had crashed and it had to rebuild.
Luckily it's ok today.
Apart from this I've had no other problems.

Thanks for setting this thread up. I set one up specifically for the issues I was seeing with astrobot but haven't seen any responses. Originally Astrobot crashed immediately after the controller demo multiple times. Experienced multiple crashes further in the game (though not in cooling springs). Not tried any other ps5 games yet. Other ps4 titles work great, though audio for god of war without headphones (ie just sound through tv) seems to try and do some of the 3d elements. If you are in dialogue with a character and turn kratos away from them, you can't hear their response. Other than that its been pretty solid

@hoodholmes666 The UI needs folders like the PS4. At the moment it's a bit messy.

This might sound silly, but you’ll notice that there really isn’t room for UI themes anymore because outside of the logon screen, the background image and system music are controlled by the game or app you have highlighted. This is obviously by design.

Why is that relevant to folders? Because if you had the folder selected, what image/music would display on the screen? Their user experience and design doesn’t accommodate folders very well, so I bet it’ll be a while before we get them.

@Mega-Gazz I would expect with a Folder highlighted on the PS5, it would display the default background you see when the Screenshots/Captures icon is highlighted. Then moving into the folder would use the game backgrounds for each game as they do now.
I agree, though, it will likely be a while before we get them as there are far more basic issues and quality of life updates that need to be fixed first.

I think they are aggressively trying to avoid ever showing that background, but it would have to be something like that.

LOL like having enough space to install enough games to make folders even relevant

@R1spam I had the same dialoge thing in Bloodborne when I tried... I slightly turned my head away from an NPC talking and couldn't hear then turned round and became VERY LOUD!

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
