@Elodin I generally only look at it after I've done some exploring in an area, so by the time look it I only need a bit of guidance of where to go or what to do next.

@velio84 I’ve been trying to avoid using any guides if possible but I think you’ve talked me into it. This week I’ve not had as much time to sink into ER as I would have liked and I’m starting to feel my inexperience with From games a little in my lack of progress. I’ll have a look at those build guides as that will at least get me to commit to a particular direction 👍

@JohnnyShoulder Ok, thats good to hear, so is it worth increasing how much I can carry or no?

@render Well I was thinking as much, as I didn't really notice a damage difference, as it felt like I was getting hit hard anyway.

OK, I'm going to start putting spoiler tags from now on since I have left the starting area, so read at your own risk, since I missed a day when I didn't update, I will just do a very short run through.

I decided I just wasn't the right level and or didn't have the skill to beat the margit, so I just decided to spend that day to roam, and roam I did, I I think I went north from the mountain, and I ran into a guy in a cabin, the dude in the cabin was selling ashes of war, so you know I'm coming back.
I keep going down the road, kill a dude or two, and then run into this pot, thought it would kill me TBH, but nope, he told me to he would go some place, so I headed off there.

on my way I found a swamp looking area, to my surprise it was a ghost man in a boat, and I went to go fight him, I did it on my horse since that was the safe way and I beat him on my first try, I kept heading north and I ended up at a church, to which I died to an NPC invader, I then came back it ruined them!
I actually didn't go much further, because it was a pretty death looking area a head, and I had a lot of ruins on me, so I cut my losses and left.

I go to the round table to which a man tells me about the death root I find, I do the quest for that, and thats about it.
Do note I am just rushing through what happened that day, because it was a lot, but not as much as this, Oh and I killed that horse dude at the start.

Ok now we are back to present time, and I decided it was time to kill margit, after learning I could summon an NPC, and leveling up my weapon, I went on to fight him, I died, and died, and died, but! At one point I finally did it, I killed that jerk!
Before I went further, I thought it would be cool to look around the world a little more, and there were a few things left to be done, Like kill those things pulling the cart around.
I do so actually, and I learn my upgraded weapon makes a world difference, after all that I find a purple pool of sorts, I summon to it, kill the guy in that on my 3rd try, and decide to go back to the start.

Why? Because I actually unlocked the white gate blocked by the imp key, and I just couldn't get past what was there, to avoid spoiling it, I will say I just made it to the end, once I did tho, in elden ring fashion, it was a boss.
I actually do pretty well at the boss, much to my surprise, but I still couldn't get the hang of it, but then my stupid self thought it would be a bright idea to go kill the dragon at the start of the game......I killed it, and the victory's keep on coming to.

After I killed the dragon I found a girl, she wanted me to deliver a note to her father at the castle, the castle gave me some trouble at first, but nothing I couldn't handle, then came the boss fight, to whom I killed on my 2nd try, I got this amazing sword from it tho, to bad its to heavy!

After having to look around for what felt like forever, I found her dad, to which he said he wouldn't go back till the sword was safe, but I killed him already, so I talked to him again,
And he said he would finally head back, gave me a tree branch of sorts, and I when't back to see the girl.

Only to find her dead, the father then says he is going to find the ones who did it, and I can only hope I, can do the same (Which is why I love playing this game, that was a whole optional side quest,)

I roam around a little more and then see this tree branch, it then shows me a vision of a mob going to a cave, I go into the cave almost die, and then die to the killer boss inside LOL, to which I killed pretty quickly
.
I find out that one of the glowing trees are in the area, so I go up there to once again, find a boss, I killed them at some point using my horse and then! I go back on my way to fight godrick, (BTW I forgot to say that I did some of the castle already) I did a good number of times on my way to him, but I make it, and oh boy, I love that fight so, so so so, much, It was so fun, the attacks, the timing, then he goes into his 2nd phase, and due to me fighting the dragon already, actually came easy for me, I knew the openings I had with he fire, so it wasn't to bad, I beat him on my 4th try, after losing after needing to hit him once, once!

After all this, I go to the next area, and call it a day. Sorry if my writing seems very sloppy, if I don't write these things after I finish playing I forget details, making it harder for me to write about it, so if that happens to be the case, I will make it shorter next time, if you read this, thank you, and I hope you have an amazing time as I am in elden ring!

@velio84 I love it, Its hard, but its not? It just depends on how much time your willing to put into it, If I'm having a hard time, I will go around, and look for more stuff that might change my whole run, Its only has hard as you make it, which is really why I don't understand why some people want an easy mode? You can summon players if you want to.

I also just learned, that a lot of the side quest in this game, go on with or without you, making the very organic, thats cool and all, but damn if I new that I would have kept looking for Alexander! I want to know more about him, and now I don't know where we would be now, I hope to meet back up with him.

I also heard its not possible to do every side quest in a playthrough, which is crazy to think about, and pretty cool because it adds to the story.

You can carry as much you want, there are limits for each item on how much you can have on you, if you exceed that amount it goes to your chest. Although the sum of weight of all the carried items, affects your movement speed.

Equip Load determines your mobility based on the total weight of your currently equipped Armaments, Armor and Talismans, improving or reducing your ability to take evasive actions depending on the amount of load.

Sounds like you've made some real progress there and the game has clicked with you. Hopefully you will continue to enjoy your journey!

@Elodin No worries. I spent all day yesterday aimlessly exploring, so today felt like I needed some structure with my time with the game, so I had a quick peek at the game progress route.

Well I try'd putting on more till it got heavy, and I don't really like how clunky I feel, I would like to be lighter wile carrying as much armor as possible, because I wanted to use this sword (Which lord I'm loving BTW)But I would get to heavy, so I took of my some of my more heavy armor, I try'd increasing it a little bit, but its just not enough, But some of these swords are way to heavy, I would have to be naked.

Oh yeah, Im Enjoying it a lot! like a lot a lot, I will need to try other soul games, I'm thinking DS 2 next.

So, my latest respec is working really really well, I thought I’d share.

I’m using the Dark Moon Greatsword but any big int-scaling sword could work. Because the physical requirements for DMGS are so low for a big weapon an because almost all the scaling is from int, I was able to spec for full int and still be primarily melee. I have AR of 685 on my +9 DMGS, 750ish with self buff. 850ish with physick buff. So I hit like a truck, and the charged r2 is just a bonus. And since I have full int I use staff in offhand and can use swift glintstone shard when I need to attack faster than the big sword.

Stats are:
Vigor: 30
Mind: 25
End: 23
Str: 16 (min for DMGS)
Dex: 11 (min for DMGS)
Int: 60, +5 from talisman +3 from hat
Faith, arc: 10

Using carian regal sceptre and DMGS,

Always make sure to do your NPC quests! Even the ones you get as far back as Liurnia. Slowly did a little of Latenna’s quest throughout the game and it finally paid off, I’m in an area that’s possibly one of the most hidden secrets I’ve seen in a Souls game. Which has now led to another crazy area and a teleporter gave me another route to Mohgwyn Palace. The map is genuinely even bigger than I expected.

Ok, Mohg is one of the best fights in the entire Soulsborne franchise. Incredibly well designed, challenging and even has an annoyingly cool gimmick. My gold standard is bosses like Gwyn, Artorias, Gael, Martyr Logarius, Lady Maria, Ludwig, Orphan of Kos etc. This fight is probably the first one in Elden Ring that fully stands alongside those ones. The fights where the odds feel stacked against you but you just scrape by. Brilliant.

Beat Malenia there and while I can understand the sheer irritation some people are feeling about how incredibly difficult she was (to the point of saying she’s the worst boss across all 5 games), I really enjoyed the fight. Another evil gimmick, insanely hard timing and such but I feel fantastic overcoming that. Only reason she isn’t one of my favourite fights is that she has a move that literally ended my run every single time she used it. Guess how many times she used it when I beat her? Zero.

@Snatcher
Good morning.
It’s nice to see your experience enjoying the game.
About the boss you fought in the early stone sword key you unlock : the same enemy is in the Stormveil castle basement except it doesn’t have a boss health bar

There’s a cool npc you might like early. Have a look up in mist wood ruins then have a chat with Kale (church of Elleh)

Now this felt GOOOOD! Obviously I suck at parrying but saw that there's my only chance with this guy as otherwise he was parrying me and was 1 shotting me after that. As there were stairs right after him, I suppose this is the NPC that some of you guys cheesed into oblivion?

I don't think it's a spoiler as it's not an actual boss, just an NPC you need to fight:

@render In my view, having a character I might like in advance saves me from wondering whether I updated what I should have and so on. I usually go with pure dex builds so I have no issues building such character and know what I need to level up. Buy having never played with magic at all in other souls games, I thought I might as well have 1 less thing to worry about in the game and checked a bunch of build videos. I don't regret it as I don't think it robbed my experience in anyway. If anything - it made my experience with the game even more enjoyable as otherwise I might have put plenty of stats where I don't need it and struggle in the game a lot more than I should.

Edit: And Rennala is done. That second phase was a tough one…

Awesome video...! What incantation are you using on your sword? It was giving me serious heart palpitations though watching you just leave your runes 'unclaimed'.... that is some serious confidence, I would have grabbed them ASAP ha! (That same guys levelled me a few times, until I long-bowed his ass prior to melee engagement)

@Snatcher Pump some points into endurance when you level up to increase your equip load. There are also a couple of talismans you equip which will increase END also.

I had to stop playing this because someone was inconsiderate enough to release another game and I had to review it but now I'm back in action and I had a radical day Elden Ring yesterday. Did like seven bosses in. Made loads of progress into a new area. I think I might be near the end of the story. Or the main questline or whatever. I don't know. It feels endingy.

Still smashing things up with my big sword. I've come up against a few optional (I think) bosses that are still too strong for me. I'm not good enough to avoid getting hit entirely and any time they hit me I die so I guess I need to be a bit higher level before I do them.

@velio84 That NPC takedown is just class 🤩

Having finally caved and checked out those builds on Fextra I went after the Moonveil as even though I wasn't quite lvl 50 yet I was near enough and had by luck stumbled upon the area in some of my wanderings. I'd also stumbled upon a second Uchi so thought I'd try out your trick @CJD87 and duel wield the Uchi's and woah they are brutal. There's an area I found with some fairly weak enemies in North Caelid that drop a 1000 runes each and with the duel wield I can blitz through those with the L1 attack. I then went on to get the Moonveil by beating the Magna Wyrm also using duel wield, getting in there for a few quick slashes and then getting some distance. I've now got some new found confidence that I'm sure will get knocked out of me at the very next boss 😂

@velio84 I actually have that enchanment, but my INT is <12.... and my build focus is so DEX/VIG heavy that I don't think I could invest the required INT to make it scale enough to be worthwhile!
I am currently using 'Bloodflame blade' enchantment though, which compliments my dual katana wielding (both of which have 'bleed' as a passive ability anyway). BB enchantment stacks with the passive bleed, and it is crazy damage potential

@render Dual katana has been a game changer! Is your build predominantly DEX? There is an item (Iron Whetblade?) that allows you to assign affinity scaling to 'Keen' when you add an AoW to your weapons. So I have both katanas hooked up with AoW 'Bloody Slash' and assigned keen affinity to both. So the raw damage scales with DEX nicely, and also Bloody Slash is an excellent AoW in my opinion (possibly even better than 'Unsheathe').
Then obviously I have a backup shield for left hand if things get a bit too tasty for me out there... which is pretty often TBH!!
How#s Moonveil? I've heard the damage is wild, but not sure my low INT/FAI would or could work with it? (I am currently using Naga Katana in main/right hand and then Uchi Katana in left. Both with AoW Bloody Slash, and I have enchantment 'Bloodflame Blade' to use as well via the Finger Seal)

CJD87

render

@CJD87 I started out with mainly DEX/VIG as well just because it seemed like the way to go with the scaling on the Uchi however for the Moonveil you also need 23 INT so I've had to scale that up. It was late last night when I got it and had to work on levelling up so I've not actually tried it yet but I'm hoping it's going to be wild.

Not sure if I've got the Iron Whetblade yet so will have to check later. I did try Bloody Slash and really liked it but found that Unsheathe was doing more damage for me. I'll see how I feel with the MV though as the main selling point is the Transient Moonlight skill so hopefully that's something that I'll be happy with. Then it's really a question of how much do I like a dual wield setup and can I find one that works with the MV or should I move more towards your Naga setup, which means of course that I have to go and find another item 😆
