@nessisonett Yeah that has happened to me too, one of the bosses in the catacombs just didn't do anything. Had a load of those little goblins which were still running around though.

@render You only have a limited use of Unsheath or whatever skill you have, as it uses FP, so I would probably be a bit more deliberate in timing your hits. Jump + R2 is a great way to stagger enemies, even the larger foes will stagger if you follow up with a couple of hits. Great way to cut the distance between you and an enemy too.

@Elodin Yeah same, I had the NPC summon and my jellyfish with me. Wasn't too bad once I learned the attack patterns as I just rolled through most of his melee attacks and kept my distance from his AOE attacks.

Played about eight hours today. In that time, I:

  • explored a few different catacombs
  • found and conquered the Shaded Castle
  • unlocked the majority of the mountain area (including some weird manor that contains some sort of factional questline)
  • defeated General Radahn (really wild boss fight)
  • found the hidden dungeon in his area, struggled with that for a while (those archer spirits can bite me), and then defeated the Putrid Tree Spirit at the bottom of said dungeon after a couple of tries
  • found the area where the shooting star landed after Radahn's fight
  • explored the majority of Nokron, the Eternal City after a Shadow Link-ish boss fight
  • found the mimic tear summon

It's 2:30 AM now, so I figured stopping was a good idea if I didn't want to look like the living dead in the morning.

@nessisonett Lucky you. The thing thrashed about like a Bloodborne boss on crack for pretty much the entire fight. I didn't have healing items for scarlet rot, either, so by the time I killed it, I was hurriedly warping back to the entrance before the rot killed me and forced me to retrieve my body.

Boss actually wasn't too bad for me. Probably because I'm doing pretty sweet damage with my new dual katana setup (uchigatana +12 and nagakiba +13), and it's so big you can spam light attacks and usually end up hitting it. I died WAY more times to a few of the spirits in the dungeon leading up to that boss.

Radahn was pretty easy too, come to think of it. I had him down to a sliver of his health on my first run, but he ended up creaming me a couple of times before I managed to take him down.

Only boss I've been fully unable to beat so far is the Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast. Just ended up running past that thing.

@velio84 Its that one dude at the bridge. He is one of the bosses you need to fight to beat the game I think.

@CJD87 I picked up the No Skill yesterday and had a quick read up on it as it's one of those which doesn't sound immediately useful but could very well be the opposite. I've currently just got the Red Thorn Roundshield which I didn't even bother with as I'm not good with the parry. I'll take a look around and see if I can find something that works better for blocking and it sounds like even though the sword skill will take a slight hit I'll still get some benefits. I've also got AoW 'Bloody Slash' but haven't tried it yet, but I will do now that you've sung it's praises.

@Jimmer-jammer I'm beginning to come round to that thinking. Rolling has been working out fairly well for me but Margit was destroying me with multiple attacks that I just didn't have the stamina to roll away from. I'm going to go with a shield and see how I get on.

@velio84 Thanks for that tip, it sounds like a good option. I really want to be good at parrying as it's a great skill in GoW but with DeS I just couldn't do it consistently as the timing is different for each enemy type. I didn't even bother trying it with ER as I knew it would be futile.

@JohnnyShoulder Using FP isn't ideal as it's another thing I was having to take timeout to refill during action so thanks for the tip RE jump attack. I've been using that on human sized enemies since the start but for some reason that went totally out of my head during the Margit fight 😂

There's something about this game that's making me feel like a total noob so thanks for all the tips 👍

@Ralizah Great to hear your update!

If you don't mind me asking, what is your current stat spread? Dual wielding uchigatana +12 and nagakiba +13 sounds really interesting... but Naga needs a STR investment of 18 total to 1-hand?

I'm currently with STR at 12, but DEX at 30 - working with dual uchi katanas, both scaling nicely with DEX as they are linked to 'keen affinity'. Still rocking bloody slash AoW on both and also using incantation 'bloodflame blade' which is wild!

How does Uchi+Naga measure up against Uchix2? Thanks!

@CJD87 if your Strength is only 12 I'm assuming you're not using Radagon's Soreseal? (It's well worth finding and using if you don't know about it already)

this actually happened to me a while ago (and I'm sure it's happened to most other people in this thread) but one of my favourite moments so far was hearing beautiful, monastery-like singing and thinking "oh, sounds like there's a nice side quest this way"

Managed to sneak a quick go in this morning and after an initial bit of trouble (with both if I’m honest), managed to beat Moongrum Carian Knight and then Renalla Queen of the Full Moon. I really liked Raya Lucaria… wasn’t ‘quite’ as awesome as Stormveil Castle… but still really cool nonetheless.

@danlk1ng Oh wow just looked into this.... +5 for STR would be excellent, I'd then only need to concede runes for +1 'official levelling' up.

I understand though you incur a health debuff for damage taken? Is it severe?

CJD87

danlk1ng

@CJD87 not particularly - you also get +5 to vitality (or is it vigor? The HP stat, either way) which pretty much offsets the difference in damage taken (worth noting that the "soft cap" for vitality is level 40 so if you upgrade it past 35 you'll get less of a difference from using the talisman), and +5 to Dex and endurance too - which will help as you're already building your Dex up and more stamina/weight capacity can't hurt!

@render Yeah there is quite a bit to get your head round and manage for combat. It took me almost playing 3/4 of Dark Souls and all of Bloodborne for it to all click.

@danlk1ng I'm sold mate...! Naga katana here I come

Appreciate the advice, great forum. I have no qualms about just investing +1 level into strength as this talisman will give me the extra 5! Awesome and cheers man

@velio84 You’ll usually see a little yellow sign on the ground next to the fog wall, just outside the boss encounter. However, you do need to use the ‘Furlcalling Finger Remedy’ in order to summon people. I’m not 100% sure if you need to use it to summon NPC’s though, but I think you do.

Nah you don't need to use anything to be able too see NPC summons. If you don't even need to be on online mode.

@Kairu yeah I thought that… I found a smashed window that led to an upper area of a lecture hall which reminded me of a vague Bloodborne memory before a boss fight. So cool. I’m thinking that I’ll go visit Castle Morne yet… seen a fair bit of chat about it on here, so it’s about time I go check it out.

@velio84 think I said to someone on here before, even if they don't do a great deal of damage, they are handy as a distraction so you can heal up and stuff.

@CJD87 no worries - it's a pretty awesome talisman. I've seen people starting Level 1 runs of the game, and one of the first things they seem to do is go grab that talisman so they can wield a decent weapon

I've just unintentionally cheesed a npc
invader in Academy of Laya Lucaria. They tried to follow me after I ran past and jumped in a lift, they kept going and fell in the lift shaft. I got a pretty decent shield out of it 👍😂
