Topic: Don’t light candles near your PS5!!

So, to make this story short I was having a long gaming session last Saturday playing Demon’s Souls on my PS5. I had a scented candle lit up in my room completely opposite to my PS5 and far away enough to prevent any damage. I had the candle on for about maybe five hours give or take. Towards the end of my gaming session, after I had blown the candle, I literally noticed my all white PS5 covered in spots of black smudges. It had literally looked like someone with dirty hands had rubbed their fingers all over the console. There was no explanation to this other than the smoke from the candle. Upon doing research, apparently the smoke from the candle gets absorbed into the PS5 and blown right back, however it leaves behind a filthy mess. Other people have reported this online when lighting candles in the same room. Thankfully a good amount was able to come off after rubbing it with some water and a clean microfibre cloth. But unfortunately there are still some permanent light stains now. Has anyone else ran into this issue?? Also I guess for those who were thinking of lighting candles, it’s best not too anymore.

Also I’ve been trying to upload pictures but I don’t know how to on this site. Unless there is a way that I don’t know about. Anyways any help at all would be appreciated.

So I uploaded the pictures of how it looked like. Obviously you can see the black smudges on one of the pictures. The other one is after I had cleaned it, not the best lighting I’m sorry. I was able to clean off most of the smoke, but like I said before there are now some light permanent stains. Even between the cracks of the consoles.

I just can’t believe a simple candle can cause this much visible damage to the console, I get that it’s white and it can be easily spotted but this didn’t even happen on my white PS4 Pro. Kinda makes me wish I had a black PS5. My OCD is kicking in each time I look at the console now. Pleas PSA don’t light candles in the same room as your PS5!!

Thanks! That's good to know, as I have candles all throughout the house. Will definitely be more wary from now on.

If you use a candle topper, they help to reduce the build up of soot.

I've seen this happen to a few people on reddit. Definitely no candles in the room when the console is on.
