@Th3solution yeah I am quite enjoying the story tbh, tropes, schlock and all š. Even though Iāve had some understanding of the overall Resident Evil series narrative, the way it unfolds within the first game⦠with the environmental storytelling and diary excerpts etc is really very good.
Gutted that Iām back in work today as I want to carry on with my playthrough š ⦠maybe Iāll be able to get an hour in tonight š¤
@HallowMoonshadow cheers, yeah while itās took a bit of getting used to I think Iāve clicked with it now.
Thatās the first Resident Evil HD Remake playthrough for Jill done and it has me super intrigued⦠as Iām sure it has millions of other players over the last 20 years or so. Really liked Wesker and Barry as characters (if not as people)⦠and have vague recollections of the former in Code Veronica all the way back on the Dreamcast and feeling similarly intrigued by him then. I have a feeling that Iām gonna be watching a whole load of lore vids on Resi in much the same way that I did for Dark Souls and Metal Gear Solid when I was playing through them.
Anyway, itāll be a knife-only playthrough with Chris next, then a Real Survivor with Jill, an invisible enemies with Chris and then a speed-run or two with Jill. They dont half make you work for it like! š
@graymamba
Well done, it is all downhill from here.
The speed run isnāt as bad as it seems but be aware nothing stops that timer which is most annoying (not sure why devs do this), recommend using someoneās speed run chapter times just in case and time each section, perhaps cloud saving but that isnāt really necessary.
The no saves was a bit of a pain for me, everything was going swimmingly until Lisa knocked me off the platform...stupid stupid 100 to 1 mistake but that is Sodās law.
@CaptD yeah right now the 3hr deadline seems pretty much impossible⦠but Iām sure with a couple more playthroughs, together with a bit of research Iāll get there by hook or by crook.
What a great setting/game world they created though⦠it reminded me of Arkham Asylum and the original Dead Space in the way they used what is essentially one locale, so effectively.
lol that takes me back š. While gameplay is still the overriding barometer for a games quality for me, I have diversified quite a bit over the last few years and have enjoyed the odd narrative-focussed game in-between more gameplay-centric fare tbh.
@AgentCooper 𤣠aye you could put it like that. Heās good mate, we were meant to have done a bit of Castle Crashers yesterday but heās got a lot on atm with a bundle-of-joy on the way. Think that plat-hunting may be placed on the back-burner for the immediate future.
@AgentCooper will do mate. I havenāt played a great deal of Castle Crashers yet but Moose said it was pretty good⦠and the Canadian guy we met, who helped us out with some gear was pretty obsessed by it (like 300+ hrs obsessed!).
Itās pretty much a scrolling beat-em up, with a cartoon-medieval paintjob and has some a bit of rpg-elements added too by the looks. I can add you to the group chat for it if you ok,e, as one of the trophies require 4 people.
Managed to make a start on my knife-only run with Chris this afternoon and have made some decent progress to be fair. Just beat Yawn after getting back to the mansion from the residence. Donāt wanna count my chickens but I could have this playthrough done tomorrow š¤.
last night i got caught on at least one or two trophies to get in WWE 2K22 and WWE 2K24 where i finally got the capture finisher trophy in wwe 2k22 and the trophy for playing as LA Knight vs Finn on Legend difficulty in WWE 2K24.
that and I noticed Gunther and Kaiser they had different names in WWE 2K22 where Gunther was called Walter and Kaiser had a different name. that and WWE 2K22 being the last time for Brock Lesnar and Mandy Rose being in the WWE games
Massively productive day for me! Managed to get everything done in work before I break up for a 6-day Easter weekend⦠and most importantly, I finished off my second playthrough on Resident Evil HD Remake.
I was a little bit anxious about this one too as Iād watched Adam McDermottās Platinum Journey (embedded below; check out his reaction at around 5:05 š¤) prior to me starting the game around a fortnight ago and he missed the CQC FTW trophy for a knife-only run on his first playthrough for some reason (maybe accidentally stomping on a zombie head as he ran past seems the most likely reason) and he had to do the knife-only run all over. Thankfully it popped for me and I managed to save Jill and Rebecca to boot.
Next onto The Real Survivor with Jill where, while itās more difficult, the item boxes donāt connect and you have to manually aim⦠at least I can let everyone die! š
@graymamba
Good show. I think the defensive items can screw you over during knife only runs. However I canāt remember if Leon has a defensive item slots.
PS. Gaming doesnāt break for Easter.
Resi-update: started my Real Survivor playthrough today and after some real issues early on (there were points where I was questioning myself tbh š ), I started to make some good headway around 1pm. The issues I was facing turned out to be really good practice for my upcoming speed runs too tbh, as I was repeating certain sections so many times between save points that it really started to embed the optimal routes etc.
You know a stone-cold classic when the more times you play a section, the more that you start to realise the brilliance of the design. Now that I kinda feel pretty comfortable with the layout of the game, what were initially treacherous adventures out for certain items are now point-to-point shuttle-runs without even having to check the map. Itās gonna be interesting to think about how Iād rate this game within my all-time top games list by the time Iām done. Iām already far more positive about it than I anticipated⦠and would probably find a spot for it in my top 30 right now⦠weāll see in a week or two.
By the end of todays play Iāve managed to set both Stone & Metal Objects in the gate under the main staircase and am just about to see Lisa for the final time this playthrough before entering the lab.
So I went down into the lounge and I just couldnāt let it lie, knowing I was that close to the end of my playthrough. So I popped back up to the gaming room, booted the PS4 up and finished the run. Much to my surprise I managed to finish the Real Survivor playthrough in 2hrs 28mins, so got all the speed-run trophies and all the weapons! Really happy with that as it was the 3 hr speed-run that I was dreading the most.
So itās Chris with Invisible Enemies next and then a very easy playthrough without saving⦠or vice-versa I guess š¤ and itāll be all done.
@graymamba
Wow well done on that especially the speed run trophies as well, whilst they werenāt anything to get concerned about doing them during real survivor is mighty impressive.
Invisible enemies isnāt a problem, the nosave isnāt fun...just donāt run with those fuel canisters.
@graymamba Splendid work, mate. Iām really pleased at how the game has clicked with you. Iām excited to see your response to RE2, 3, and 4 remakes. Youāll feel right at home with the more action combat and updated controls, and yet still be able to enjoy the puzzley survivor horror aspects.
āWe cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.ā
Cheers guys, I was particularly pleased after logging off yesterday evening I gotta be honest.
@CaptD youāre probably right about there being no need for my concern for the speed-runs mate⦠it is one of the admittedly rare trophy requirements I always dread though tbh. When I first started trophy hunting, the mere sight of online, difficulty-specific and speed-run requirements were enough to put me off entirely. And while that did change over time⦠and all three still weigh on me a bit to this day, itās the rare speed-run requirements out there which seem to cause me the most anxiety. As a consequence of that anxiety though⦠once done, I probably get the most satisfaction from them too tbh.
@Th3solution I did play through REmake 2 back during the start of covid⦠and did really enjoy it. It was when I was still finding what I liked and didnāt like in gaming though after years of being very casual with the hobby. I was quite new to trophy hunting at the time too and the speed-runs required (ironically given my reply to the Captain above) that put me off going for the plat at the time. Iām looking forward to addressing that and putting it right⦠as well as just fully embracing the series. The beauty of coming to a classic series late is getting to consume them on your own terms I find. You never have to wait a full dev-cycle to see what happens next and can just piecemeal it as and when you fancy. Iām aware that there are a couple of significant dips in quality with RE (namely 6 and to a lesser extent 5) but on the whole itās clear there is a lot of quality there. 4 REmake and Village in third-person mode are the ones Iām most pumped about⦠but Iām even a little excited to try 6 just out of curiosity. Judging from the first one itās gonna be a proper ride these next few years!
@graymamba oh, apologies as I forgot you already played RE2. I do think having the context of RE1 will enhance your revisit to it though.
RE3 remake feels a lot like an expansion for RE2, as the gameplay is quite similar, just a little different setting and also the return of Jill as a main character. The remake got a lot of criticism due to its mild deviation from the original game, primarily with some omitted content, but since Iāve never played the original I didnāt miss what I didnāt know. So youāll have the same advantage of not knowing the difference.
Iāve just recently played RE4 so you know my thoughts there. And Iāve tried RE5 briefly and thought it was okay, but I really need to devote more energy to it in order to give it a chance. Probably itās inevitable remake will come out before I ever get to it. Code Veronica and Zero will need to get remade for me to try them out. And RE6⦠Iām morbidly curious about it also. Everyone says itās awful and to just skip it, but I heard on a podcast recently someone defending it as better than RE2. š I think thereās a definite preferred order that the gameās multiple selectable storylines should be played in, and if you play the campaigns in a less ideal sequence then itās a gameplay and narrative disaster.
āWe cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.ā
And thatās the no-saves run done for Ink is for Squids. Piece of cake with the unlimited rocket launcher I earned from going under 3 hours yesterday.
@Th3solution no apologies needed mate, I donāt expect people to remember what Iāve played and havenāt etc. If itās one thing Iād never level against you itās ignorance, quite the opposite š».
Iāve heard the odd dissenting voice about 6 too (dissenting as in, against the general consensus if you get me). They mention that while the narrative is awful and it totally abandons its survival-horror heritage⦠that whatās left is a highly playable action game merging third-person melee and shooting. Iād actually put money on me quite liking it tbh.
So with the invisible Tyrant downed and Chris scarpering out of the lab leaving two innocent ladies to meet their doom for the Every Man for Himself trophy, Resident Evil HD is dunzo. As Iāve mentioned before, Iāve loved it but⦠I think the fifth playthrough did start to feel like one too many tbh and Iām glad itās over.
Iām gonna take a day off tomorrow as this past week has been pretty intense⦠and then on to Devil May Cry for what would make plat #225 (if Iām successful that is). Thereās no guarantees with this one though⦠Iāve popped the odd tricky plat in my time but my dualsense-is-tingling on this one, telling me that this could well be the toughest yet⦠and possibly beyond my upper-limit. Only one way too find out š
