@Voltan @LtSarge Being patented would explain why then..

I remember the XCOM2 DLC using some of the nemesis features when you fight the Chosen in that they acquire random new abilities with each subsequent fight but I don’t think they related to previous battles like the Nemesis system supposedly did.

@Thrillho It was only recently it was patented, so I agree that it was surprising that not many games seemed to copy it.

@LtSarge The game was my first platinum so I will always remember it. Maybe if you are only playing it now, about 7 years later, some of it won't feel as special as it once did. Especially if you have played other similar games beforehand which came out later. At the time the Nemesis system was really cool to experience.

I think that is one of the negatives leaving it so long to play some games. Apart from the obvious technical short comings you may notice, you lose some of the magic from playing it at the time.

@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, I get that. I may have also spoken a bit preemptively since I've only played an hour of the game. It may become more informative and useful later on as enemies become more difficult but this is how I feel about it right now.

Out of curiosity, have you ever played a game most people adored but that you didn't get into because too much time had passed?

LtSarge

JohnnyShoulder

@LtSarge Oh yeah totally, I imagine there is loads, especially as I was late getting a 360. Off the top of my head I can think of Half Life 2, which I only thought was average rather than amazing which it had been hyped up to be.

@JohnnyShoulder Yeah I think in the case of Half-Life, people have been yearning for a sequel so long that those who haven't played the games think that this is an amazing franchise because there's so much talk and even memes about it. But maybe it isn't anything special, the games are probably just decent enough.

I just find it interesting that we all feel differently about games depending on when in time we've played them. I know it's a common thing but I've never really reflected that much about it until now.

Voltan

@LtSarge Half-life was great when it came out but the genre has come a looooong way since then

@LtSarge Half-Life and Half-Life 2 absolutely still hold up. They play remarkably modern for their time too.

@nessisonett I've been wanting to give the series a go but I don't have a good way of playing the first Half-Life. The second one and its episodes are available as part of The Orange Box on PS3, but the first Half-Life is only on computers or on PS2 and I don't have the latter or a PS3 that plays PS2 games. So I honestly don't know what to do.

@LtSarge half life 1 is regularly discounted on steam to such a low amount that it would probably be worth buying it just to see if your computer would run it. I haven't actually played it, I've only played 2 and Episodes from 2 on the orange box and I loved it

I think (check this before you buy/if you buy) that the orange box is BC on Xbox one as well. Not sure though

nessisonett

@LtSarge The first Half-Life will play on a potato tbh. It was recently remade as Black Mesa though and I’ve heard that’s brilliant. Still need to play it.

@RogerRoger Fantastic! Glad you took the plunge. It's an absolutely classic series, with tons of colorful characters, funny dialogue, great mysteries, and a compelling story that develops over the course of the three games in the original trilogy.

The fact that you're already taking to it bodes well for when you get to the meat of the game.

Now that they're going full multiplat with these games, they'll hopefully port over the second mainline trilogy and Investigations spinoffs sooner than later.

@Th3solution @Jimmer-jammer In RDR2 I just broke Micah out of jail and now after some shooting and an escape on horseback there's now a bounty on my head, it was a fun mission but what should I do now? Try to get back to Horseshoe Overlook and sleep for a few days in order to lose my bounty? Can you do that? Or pay it off at a Post Office? Is it expensive? What do you guys advise?

@Th3solution @Jimmer-jammer And how are your games going?

Edit: I actually think I'm only wanted in Strawberry and don't believe I need to go back there any time soon so escaping the law shouldn't be a problem!

@TheBrandedSwordsman I don’t remember exactly how I handled that specific scenario actually. In general I tried to pay off any bounties pretty quickly. I played the game as honorable as I could and so I didn’t run into it very often but I did pay a few bounties at the post office during the game. I don’t think it was really too expensive. In fact I had a lot of money, but I took advantage of an infinitely respawning gold bar glitch, which is probably patched out now. So I was swimming in dough. 😂 It didn’t really ruin the game for me though and in fact made it more fun I think because I would experiment with a lot of different clothes and hats and guns.
Sounds like you’re still having fun with it though. Who’s you’re favorite characters? What do you think is going to happen in the story?

As for me, I’m about half way through Chapter 8 in FF7R, so not a whole lot of progress since last report. But it’s really good and I’ve come across a new character and new area so it’s staying really fresh. Each character added to the party brings a different playstyle in combat, so it’s enjoyable to experiment around with them. You can continue to just hammer away with Cloud during encounters and let the AI control your party, or you can switch around on the fly and control different companions whenever you want. It’s pretty typical JRPG stuff, but there is a lot of flexibility built in that way.
Since I last commented to you, I had a really cool boss fight. It was a very pleasant surprise. The other couple boss fights I’ve encountered have been okay, but this one has so much interesting tactics and visual flash and style that it just brought a smile to my face 😄

@RogerRoger The Ace Attorney trilogy effectively carries everyone through similar emotional journeys with Miles Edgeworth, I think. And that's all I'm gonna say, because I don't want to spoil anything.

Six mainline entries.
Two spinoff games following everyone's favorite cravat-wearing prosecutor (although the second game was never officially released outside of Jpn; really hoping Capcom remasters those and releases them on modern devices eventually).
A crossover with Professor Layton (interestingly, some of the ideas introduced in this were carried over to The Great Ace Attorney).
The Great Ace Attorney duology.

Ace Attorney 7 is heavily rumored to be late in development as well.

So, yeah, there are a LOT of games in this particular series. And, possibly barring the Layton game, they all take place in the same universe, so the worldbuilding across everything ends up being really fantastic. A strict sense of continuity is maintained as well. It's a lot of fun seeing characters grow up in the mainline games, since the games take place (so far) across a span of twelve years or so.

Glad you're enjoying it!

@Th3solution Micah and Hosea are my favourite characters, I like Dutch as well though, they don't seem to pay much attention to the development of the female characters though, but that's probably reflective of the time the game is set in , though, as women were always sort of just in the background, I am expecting that may change as the game progresses though? I liked Hosea's reflections on his time with Bessie during the hunting mission. As far as where the story will go next I expect Micah will get into trouble shooting up the town in Strawberry again, and, from seeing some stuff online I know there will be more than one more train robbery as the game progresses, Arthur will probably have to bail Micah out of trouble, as I say, again, though, and maybe Dutch will finally have that much-desired confrontation with Colm O'Driscoll at the end of the game, no, I'm sure that will happen. Care to give me a rough % on how accurate my guesses are, without giving anything away? Who were your favourite characters out of the ones who have appeared in the story thus far?
