@colonelkilgore I’ve actually felt a very similar vibe as Death Stranding while I’ve played Control. From the wacky storyline to the light horror elements, and although the gameplay is completely different they each have an element unique from the standard fare out there. And I guess Kojima and Sam Lake both have a mad-scientist auteur vibe to their creative approach that draws comparisons.
I was actually surprised that it has only been a year since I played Death Stranding. I checked and a clocked my last trophy in June of 2020, but it seems like the last year has been an eternity. I do recall feeling an eerie irony during the largest lockdown of our lifetime, playing a game centered around all the NPC’s being holed up in their shelters cut off from society.
As for Ghost of Tsushima, I honestly loved the game wholeheartedly. But when you start making comparisons it just isn’t quite as transcendent as the titles above it, despite it being a more approachable type of game with the open world to get lost in. It’s probably pretty neck-and-neck with RE2 on that list so I could easily switch the two positions and feel good having it at #4. But I edged RE2 slightly because of how pleasantly surprised I was at how the experience absorbed me. Like you were saying, expectations do color how you might end up feeling about a game, and since my expectations were so high with Ghost, it might subconsciously pull it down a wee bit in the end accounting. Fair or not to Sucker Punch, it’s human nature to have such prejudice I think. So it’s good that you’ll go into it more grounded in that regard, and realize that you’ll probably love it, but that it may not permeate your mind for months afterward like, say, a Death Stranding would. There’s not a prettier game on PS4, and the gameplay is rock solid, but I think the shortcomings are more in the narrative area. Which, again, is still fabulous, but doesn’t press the medium forward quite as much as the other titles mentioned. But it’s great comfort food for a rainy day when you need to wander an open world and collect things and do side quests while gradually revealing a story.
@RogerRoger Gaming-wise, last 12 months have been stellar, for sure. I think the end stage of PS4’s life cycle contributed to the quality of what I’ve played over the last year. The system being at full maturation leads itself to a huge library of top-shelf games to pull from. And I still have so many highly regarded PS4 games yet to play. Thank goodness that PS5 is backward compatible! 😄

@RogerRoger If they were more easier to get hold of, I would genuinely be tempted to get a PS5 for my Dad. The difference was like night and day when I last played on his non-pro PS4.

Finished Witcher 3 last night, found it to be an amazing game. Probably the best game I've ever played.
I'd never played an RPG before I played FF7 last year, as my "return to gaming" game, never thought they'd be my thing but now they are my 2 favourite games.
Started playing RE remastered today. I'm making my way through the years, so still on 2015.
@bluedex Excellent, congrats on beating the game. What did you think of the ending? I am considering playing RE4 again but I keep changing my mind. Have you played that one?

I had a hankering for a little indie time today, so finally booted up Bound, aka “Cirque Du Soleil: The Game”.
I only have about 2 hours invested, but I’m quite impressed. I just love the movement and artistic feel. Such a wonderful unique move set. I’m not a dancer or an acrobat, but I’ve always been in awe of what they can do. The mesmerizing marriage of athleticism and grace; there’s nothing more enchanting than a professional ballet performance and I’d never considered what it might be like to play as a ballerina. Playing video games is all about playing as a character who can do things you could never do in real life. Whether it be shooting webs from your wrist and swinging across a skyscraper, slaying aliens as a space marine, or wielding a lightsaber as a Jedi — we love this hobby because of how we can be something or someone that we can’t be in the flesh. I never would have known how satisfying it would be to be a dancer and platforming my way around an abstract environment, avoiding an evil monster.
The game has its issues, sure. Most have to do with the rather mundane scenery and lack of gameplay variety. Like other ‘artistic’ games (aren’t all games though?) such as Flower, Abzu, or Journey, the game won’t be for everyone. If you don’t appreciate the fine art of dance or acrobatics, then it will likely be boring for you.
Other complaints might be the difficulty of the trophies. It’s crazy that the platinum is at 0.1%. So probably just a handful of people in the world even have it. It looks to require multiple playthroughs and includes speed runs, which I hate anyways.
I am probably only about half way through, so I’ll post more if my thoughts change or evolve. But so far so good. I know it’s really intended to be played in one sitting, but I had to step away mid game.
Tagging @Rudy_Manchego and @Thrillho .... because I can’t remember who I was talking to about this game a few weeks ago but maybe one of you guys? Was it one of you who had it in your top 5 games on PS4?

@TheBrandedSwordsman I quite liked the ending, I had smile on my face. Haven't played RE4 yet, no. It's in the 2016 batch, so coming up soon enough. After I finish RE remastered, I have Until Dawn to round off 2015, then Rise of the Tomb Raider to start 2016 and break the horror theme, then it's RE4! 😁 @Thrillho No I'm saving the DLCs for the future, so I still have some Witcher to play, I know I'll miss it. Heard good things about them though.
I’ve finally made a start on Ghost of Tsushima on my PS5.
What a gorgeous game this is! I can still choose between resolution or frame rate via the PS4 Pro settings but it seems it doesn’t make too much difference on PS5.
I was also pleased to see headphones with 3D audio was a setting too and it sounds fantastic on the Pulse headset (for me, even better than Returnal which is supposed to be the gold standard for the 3D audio).
Combat feels great so far and I’ve just got to the open world part.
@Thrillho Good to see you’re enjoying it. It really is a beautiful game. Probably a nice one to play after Returnal since the options for stealth mix things up and there is a lot of time spent serenely wandering around in a peaceful bright environment.
The game does have its dark moments though, for sure.

@Th3solution It was more than likely me! Glad you liked it. All your comments are pretty much spot to be honest. I played in VR on PSVR and it was quite breathtaking. However, yeah... the trophies are... well actually really hard. Multiple playthroughs, zero mistakes (i.e. don't fall off things), finding multiple routes through. However, as an experience (alongside a great soundtrack), I think it is really underrated. Probably the impact of being a PS exclusive that wasn't really well marketed etc.
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
Well I've been in a bit of a gaming funk recently, and not in a boogietastic 70s sort of way. Thankfully I'm being dragged out of it by Detroit: Become Human of all things. I'll post my thoughts when I reach the end but I'm enjoying this game way more than I thought I would. I've put poor Connor through the mill, bless him.
Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.
@Rudy_Manchego Ah, whew! I was starting to think I had lost my marbles. I knew someone had recommended it! 😄
I’ll champion the game for those who are on the fence to try it. I think there’s a place for it in the gaming stratosphere. It’s too bad that the trophies aren’t any easier because that sometimes entices the fence sitting crowd to take a chance on a unique game like this.

@Th3solution Absolutely - the trophies are bizarre. I feel that they were made difficult to get some replayability out of the game but it really isn't necessary.

I decided to switch from Resident Evil Village to Resident Evil 4 as the latter seems to be a more accessible and better game overall - ammo is in plentiful supply, and I don't remember having to resort to using a guide once in order to complete it when I played it about six-eight years ago. I was ust looking for an easy to play game and this seemed to fit the bill as it appears to be high quality as well, despite ageing somewhat over the years obvs, I also intend to pick up Biomutant at a later date @bluedex sorry for picking this up early, but I couldn't think of anything else to get - I'll keep you updated about my progress but make sure to spoiler tag any spoilers I come across.

I also am planning to play RE4 at some point this year. I want to play RE3 first though. I’ve never played either of them and I really enjoyed the first two game’s remakes last year. Good to see RE4 mostly holds up. People have said they don’t really think the game needs a remake, but I guess we’re getting one next year.

@TheBrandedSwordsman Hey no worries, go for it! It might be a while before I get to it anyway. As well as my backlog games I also received Everybody's Golf in the post today, bought the disk version on a whim a couple of nights ago for €10. I played it on PSP many moons ago and remember enjoying it, so thought I'd give it a go as a "side game".
