Topic: What Do You Have Pre-Ordered?

@RogerRoger That reminds me of Assassin's Creed (something) having about 10 different versions. Not one of them included absolutely everything. Whatever happened to just having one standard version and a nice special edition?

@RogerRoger Lol, What comes with the Mini-Fig Edition?
But yeah, it’s pretty frustrating. I’m not a fan of DLC and post-release content (except for performance enhancing content)

@RogerRoger You forgot the Does Not Include The Game Edition... which sadly does exist.

@mookysam I don't mind tiers (standard is the game, deluxe is the game and some stuff, collector's is the game and everything... that's about my limit, if I'm honest) but you're right, spreading different things about different versions is insane. I remember people complaining about that particular Assassin's Creed game, but I can't recall which one it was, either!

@Th3solution The Mini-Fig Edition comes with a very small fruit taken from a flowering plant of the mulberry family. It's a more affordable version of the Fig Edition, but you'll have to buy multiple copies if you want to get your five-a-day. Many customers settle for the Don't-Give-A-Fig Edition, and it's at this point that I feel this somewhat-predictable joke has run its course.

In other words, it's the edition of LEGO DC Super-Villains I've pre-ordered, and comes with a little LEGO chap which I'll inevitably stick at the back of a display somewhere. Most LEGO games nowadays have a Mini-Fig Edition which drives LEGO collectors mad, because the mini-fig is usually exclusive.

@JohnnyShoulder Of course, you're right. The worst part of it is, somewhere in my brain I probably thought of including that and then went "nah, that'd make this comedy list too silly".

@ShadowWarrior I have OCD, which (in my case, as it affects everybody differently) unfortunately means I can't add any game to my collection unless it's a brand new, factory-sealed copy. I wish it weren't so because, you're right, it's nuts to pre-order something like Spyro or Team Sonic Racing if I'm not gonna play it right away; there'll be plenty of copies, and it'll only be cheaper in a month or two. Alas, my brain won't let me be so logical.

You can still buy brand new factory sealed copies years later, from Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, GameStop etc, and usually for $20-$40 or even cheaper...That's how I save money on video games I want to play.

Unless you think it's so niche of a game that it'll go out of print crazy fast.

@ToddlerNaruto I was thinking the same, in the UK Amazon, Game, Shopto, Simply Games are pretty good at offering games that are new still sealed months after release.

Only months later? They should still be selling brand new factory sealed copies of old PS4 games for many years, especially Amazon...

@ToddlerNaruto @JohnnyShoulder I appreciate the advice, folks. Thank you.

Several years ago, I used Amazon almost exclusively. I had terrible trouble with back-catalogue purchases in two ways; firstly, even with relatively-new releases, Amazon often falls back on Marketplace sellers "Fulfilled by Amazon" or won't bother re-stocking on popular items that have a strong showing on the Marketplace. These sellers are incredibly hit-and-miss. I've had "new" games that were old, scratched games re-sealed or sometimes even discs re-boxed in DVD cases; the amount of PS2 games that don't come with the Sony hologram is astounding, yet all sellers I've politely contacted to verify swear blind that it's official stuff.

Secondly, with regards the PS3 era in particular, both Amazon themselves and Marketplace sellers adore the fact that games on Blu-Ray were region-free. Several times they claimed to have stock, but it took a couple days extra to arrive and, when it did, it was an American copy. I appreciate that things may be different in America, as I'd imagine they have bigger stock numbers to fall back on, but the UK PAL market can be rather small at times and sometimes it's just easier to rely on region-free imports. "But it's the same game, it'll still work, what's the problem?" was a returns argument I had far, far too often.

Nowadays, I appreciate the situation may have changed slightly, but those somewhat-recent experiences have only served to make my OCD worse over the years. By relying on the standards of others, I run the risk of having an anxiety attack over a simple game purchase, but by getting the game myself at launch, physically in-hand from a shop, I'm bullet-proofing myself against the possibility of future disappointment or difficulty.

And holy cow, reading that back I sound like a total jerk. Sorry about that. It's my brain's fault.

Like I said, thanks for the advice, genuinely.

@ToddlerNaruto Soz, I probs should have said at least months after release. But I can only go by personal experience, I've not purchased any game marked as new that old online, so can't comment on that.

@RogerRoger I seem to remember Amazon had a bit of a reputation for that a few years back, but I've certainly not experienced it in the PS4 era. Whenever I see a game on Amazon that is not being sold by Amazon, I go to one my other trusted sites. There are plenty of other reliable sites out there to not solely rely on Amazon.

Oh and you didn't sound like a jerk, so no need to apologise.

My apologies about that. Makes sense why you're worried about re-stocking issues in the UK etc.

I've always gotten what was listed though, never been scammed before.

What country are you from? I'm from the USA so never have to worry about stores running out of copies many years later.

@ToddlerNaruto UK. I'm not saying they do, just that I've never bought a game that had been out years from a website to say whether they have them as 'new' or not.

@JohnnyShoulder @ToddlerNaruto Thanks, guys. I'm pleased to hear Amazon have improved in recent years, because that's just good for consumers across the board. I'm also pleased to hear that neither of you have encountered many issues with your online purchases.

The one story I did leave out was when I purchased a (funnily enough) Naruto DS game from the Amazon Marketplace, from an endorsed seller, and it was a fake. Not even a good one; cover was a fan design printed on A4 paper and shoved in an old DS box, the manual was various fan art alongside a terrible translation of a review for a different Naruto game on the Wii (and it was a critical review, too) and there was no way in heck I was putting the cartridge anywhere near my DS to see whether it was genuine, or whether it was a scam across the board.

Amazon were real nice about it, though. I actually spoke to one of their customer care folk over the phone, and he admitted to being a fan of Naruto as well. Was quite a funny call.

I recently caved in and finally pre-ordered the PS4 Pro 1TB Limited Edition Amazing Red Marvel's Spider-Man Console Bundle from BestBuy.com.

Almost went with GameStop.com but their stock was depleted crazy fast. This will be my first pre-order in ages...last time I did that was with Kingdom Hearts II on PS2 back in 2005.

I couldn't resist getting the $60 Game and the Season Pass for free .

@JohnnyShoulder @RogerRoger You both raise very good points!

I recently pre-ordered Ride 3, I'm a huge fan of the previous two bike games, especially the last one. I like how they keep expanding and improving on this series. It's a real shame it's not more popular, but too many people keep expecting these smaller racing game studios to have the same big budgets as a Gran Turismo or Forza title, or anything made by Codemasters. Anyway, I'm super-excited for the new one, I'm hurrying up to finish up Ride 2 in the meantime.

I only ever pre-ordered from Shopto because they always used to get the game to you a day before release. I've not had that for a while, though, ever since most release days changed to a Tuesday rather that a Friday. That said, I have pre-ordered Red Dead Redemption 2 because I bloody need that game.

JohnnyShoulder

@ApostateMage Simply Games have a good track record of delivering games a couple of days before release. I've had a few games off them delivered on a Friday or Saturday when the game was released on a Tuesday.
