@PorkChopExpress it has a nice cartoony art style to boot!
I have wanted to play A Short Hike now that you mention it.

I've not posted about my trophies for a while but recently got a couple I'm very pleased with. I've been going back and replaying some games I've previously played a long time ago. Games I thought I could get some extra trophies in and up my PSN profile grades for them (I know it's unimportant but I like as many A/S as possible while still being fun).

I replayed Resident Evil as I noticed there were quite a few simple trophies I could get from a second playthrough such as using the other character and different 'endings'. I found a video guide for getting all the items and after finishing that playthrough I noticed he had video guides for all the trophies. I never set out to get the platinum as it had play on extra hard/invisible enemy trophies and I didn't think I'd probably be able do those kind of ones. However, after getting the speed run trophies I decided to have one punt at following his knife only/invisible enemy run (which would have seemed absurd to me before starting this all). Suffice to say I somehow managed it and found myself only a 'Real Survivor' and 'No Save' away from a platinum. Thanks to the video guides I was able to get them done. There was one section on the 'no save' run that got my heart rate up as there is a bit where you can get knocked off a platform for an insta-death, but after getting past that the rest wasn't too bad.

After managing that, I noticed the Youtuber (Optinoob by the way) also had a guide for 4th Survivor on Resident Evil 2 Remake. The trophy for completing that mode was all that had kept me from the platinum in that game. Admittedly I hadn't tried too many times when I first did the rest of the game but I sucked at being precise with the limited ammo and the ability to get past enemies without getting grabbed. Even when I attempted following his route/method I found myself getting grabbed and using up more items than the guide did but kept going to see how far I could get. I got to the final outside section without any healing/grenades which the guide suggested using but somehow managed to limp my life-starved, defenseless Hunk (with Mr X footsteps loud in my ears) to the gate and the final trophy was mine.

TLDR; I now have the platinum for Resident Evil and RE 2 Remake. I did the latter on the PS4 version and I'm pondering saving getting the PS5 platinum as my 150th as I love the game. I'm on 139 now so will see how it goes.

Got my first shiny plat(s) of the year just now for Guardians of the Galaxy.
Played through the PS4 version and had to replay up to chapter 6 on NG+ as one collectable trophy didn't pop when it should've. Took about 24 hours.
A mostly enjoyable game with story fairly humorous in places though combat, especially on bosses, became a bit repetitive.
Then booted up the PS5 version, migrated the save and auto-popped all the trophies. So a two-fer for my first of the year.

@BearsEatBeets awesome stuff! Always feels good to go back and clean up games.
I'd like to tackle a Resident Evil this year, I think I put down RE2 Remake on my list for this year

@sorteddan congrats on the first plat of the year!
I enjoyed that one myself. Did it on Xbox though for the 1000GS. Maybe one day I'll do it on PlayStation

@WCB Cheers. If you do go for those this year I do recommend checking out Optinoob's vids to help do them efficiently. I discovered them a bit late in my runs so the save I unlocked the infinite rocket for RE also unlocked the exploding zombie into the game so I barely used it.

@PeaceSalad
Well I had both versions installed on my PS5. I played through and got all trophies in PS4 version then loaded up PS5 version and selected menu option 'Migrate save game ' then again selected 'Migrate save game ' and all trophies auto -popped. Not sure why I had to do it twice but guide I was reading said I may have to.
So I think it was via developer server, if that answers your question.

No platinum, but completed Dear Esther last night. I loved Still Wakes The Deep last year, and wanted to dive into The Chinese Room's back catalogue. Considered the OG Walking Sim, it's very bare bones, just walking and an unfolding narrative pushed by voice overs and subtle clues littered throughout the environment. A pretty boring "game", but one that kept me enthralled for the few hours it took to pop all the trophies.

I love how the Devs mine their heritage and culture for their games. I want to replay Everybody's Gone To The Rapture one day, another one of theirs I loved a number of years back. They pack so much detail of the era into their games and always a fascinating story.

I have one trophy left in Star Wars Outlaws but it's an annoying one 😩

Th3solution

@Voltan So how is SW Outlaws? It’s another one of those games that seems to have disappointed many people and yet it’s also been praised as well. I think they patched a lot of the issues I heard? Like the insta-fail stealth stuff was a lot of the complaints I heard and supposedly they patched that out, right?

It’s one I’m curious about, and might try to mix in this year or next.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

Voltan

@Th3solution It's neither the best Star Wars game or the best Ubi open world but it's still pretty good if you like both of those things (which I do).
They did remove insta-fail stealth and fixed a couple other things (like the fact that you couldn't carry a weapon with you while climbing a ladder, which was a baffling design decision) and it's all good changes. It still feels a bit rushed and undercooked in some areas though.
It's also one those games that had some visible upscaling artefacts on base PS5 and than a reportedly bad PS5 Pro patch but the latter has also been improved since (I did not see the original PS5 Pro patch due to not being able to buy a disc drive for 3 months).

What I did like is how there's no way to reveal all points of interest in an area - instead you need to either simply explore (a ? appears on your compass when you're near some of them) or eavesdrop on conversations or find notes on datapads that reveal their location. It's rather well done IMO, makes exploration feel more "organic". You know I like a good question mark leading to small platforming segment ending with a chest containing a crafting material I have no use for

I'd say it's a 7.5/10 game after the improvements. Not bad.

To keep this on topic - the last trophy requires me to "destroy each syndicate's flagship without taking hull damage" and while it's not the easiest task (even after changing difficulty settings), the annoying part is that while the ships appear in specific areas in orbit, there's only a chance you'll find them there - and even if you save your game with the ship on your screen, it won't be there when you load.
There's also no way to track this, so while I think I got two of them already (there's four), I'm not even 100% sure they counted.
There were a couple other decently hard trophies but this one is one of the most annoying ones for that reason.

Th3solution

@Voltan Ah, the infamous ‘random encounter yet untrackable and difficult to achieve even when encounter does occur’ trophy. My favorite kind. 😜

Although I love a good platinum run, it’s not a deal breaker for me. It’s good to know ahead of time that there’s a plat-stopper trophy like that so when I do play it I’ll not get too worried about trophies while I play the game. If a game naturally comes down to one or two difficult trophies at the end then maybe I grind them out, but I probably will let them go if there’s more than that, depending how much I’m enjoying things.

Thanks for the summary, though. Much appreciated. Most of the discourse on the game was around the launch period and leaned towards the negative. And I think people like to dunk on Ubisoft nowadays, so it’s hard to sift through the criticisms.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

Voltan

@Th3solution I do think it could benefit from another delay at launch, although it's difficult to say how much they could improve without player feedback.

Voltan

Voltan

@Th3solution Funnily enough, I booted up the game after work and the other 2 ships appeared (and got successfully destroyed) on first try, took about 5 minutes. The 2 from last night did indeed count so the platinum is done now

@Hapless well done bud, good luck for that last trophy 🤞

**** me? Nah… **** you (right in the ***)!

Mikey85SCFC

@WCB hey mate I just picked up a mint copy of P4 golden and I was wondering about doing a platinum run! Is it a tough plat do you know?

My latest platinum was a really easy one with WRC 24. Currently doing Ragnarok and Snowrunner of which I’m sure the majority of time will be spent on the latter 😂

@Mikey856 it's not a tough plat (I haven't got it yet btw) but you need to do two playthroughs to pop it. You can do a blind run on your first playthrough but need to get the true ending to unlock the hidden bosses in the 2nd.

I'm at the last dungeon in the true ending. I put it down and haven't picked it up again. Got distracted haha. I did a blind playthrough and still picked up lots of trophies, but I'll need to follow a guide for my NG+ to complete the rest.

One trophy , Hardcore Risette Fan, will be a pain because you have to hear 250 of her lines in the dungeons. Otherwise it shouldn't be too much trouble.

So you can either follow a guide on your first run or second, depending on how you like to play.

After a particularly barren start to the year where I managed to pick up ZERO platinum trophies in January I am happy to report that I'm back on the trophy trail and keeping up those averages. Though due to a shift in available hours I have had to jump on a bunch of shorter games to do so...
February's platinum trophies:
Guardians of the Galaxy (PS4); Guardians of the Galaxy (PS5); The Gardens Between (PS4); Killer Frequency (PS5); Cat Quest 2 (PS4); It Takes Two (PS5); High on Life (PS5).
