@RogerRoger I thought we had a “my proudest gaming accomplishment” thread at one time but I can’t seem to find it. Maybe I dreamed it.
Regardless, your story would be a perfect fit if one existed! 😄

@RogerRoger
Well done Rog. Like others I am also very happy for you and your latest accomplishment and how much it meant to you. Times like that can remind us why we are gamers.

@RogerRoger You only have to do one sniper mission for the platinum (I think!) and it's pretty easy. And I'm a really bad shot in games. I'm like that man in Pulp Fiction that runs out of the bathroom and shoots at John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson. And I managed it easy enough. You just need to spend a bit of time with it.
Platinum #117 - inFamous - loved it at release and I reckon that it still holds up really well. Quality game.
Platinum #118 - Gynoug - proper trip down memory lane this. Always wanted to know why it was actually called Gynoug when I was a kid… thought I’d be able to find this out in the age of Google but sadly not. All I can establish is that it was called Wings of Wor in the states but that doesn’t really explain why it was called Gynoug in the UK (where we also speak English 😅).
Also, congrats to @johncalmc maxing out all of the Hitman trilogy trophies 👍
@colonelkilgore No stopping you Colonel, congratulations. I'm hoping for an inFamous re-release because I heard good things about them but never played back in the day.

@The_Moose sadly, i have a feeling that Sony having their hands on some exclusive Marvel ip will rule out any return of inFamous… at least for a while. Still there are the PS4 games, that I’ve heard are pretty good… or failing that the PS3 games are still worth it… if you could find a decent price on a second-hand PS3.
@sorteddan lumped in with death and taxes… you sure know how to make a guy feel special you know that 😅
Platinum #25: Castlevania Requiem: Rondo of Blood & Symphony of the Night
The Rondo of Blood portion of the game, and trophy list, was pleasantly breezy, and encompassed two afternoons. The SotN portion of the trophy list looked like a major hassle, though, since it involved grinding, a multitude of completionist tasks (like killing one of every enemy in the game), and the final trophy I went for involved re-completing the game with an entirely different character. Thankfully, it didn't end up being a huge deal. The worst part was 100%ing the map, since there were a couple of rooms I missed, and even after hours of scouring maps online and comparing them to my own in-game, I couldn't find the discrepancy (it's like playing Where's Waldo with nearly 2000 rooms across two separate maps). Thankfully, an eagle-eyed Redditor helped end my misery, for which I am eternally thankful.
While I still prefer Rondo overall for its branching level structure, more intuitive secrets, and amazing soundtrack, I will say SotN holds up shockingly well. Metroid might have been the pioneer of this style of game design, but Symphony took that basic progression structure and updated it in intelligent, forward-thinking ways that give it a uniquely modern quality, even 25 years after its release.
It's also cool how Western audiences can finally experience these games are two halves of one interconnected story, as they clearly are. SotN even begins with the player re-visiting the final stage of Rondo of Blood, and the two playable characters from Rondo are important throughout the story.
@RogerRoger Congrats on that Sonic Unleashed platinum! There is definitely something deeply satisfying about going back in time, so to speak, and mopping up the trophies for a game that has long taunted you with its uncompletedness. The level of challenge sounds downright brutal here, but almost any goal is surmountable when you decide to sit your butt down and just... do a thing, no matter how hard it is.
@colonelkilgore The relentless pace with which you collect trophies is truly terrifying. Congrats!
@Ralizah congrats on the Requiem plat, I played them a month or so back and really enjoyed both games too, though I probably preferred SotN. I did enjoy RoB a lot more than I was expecting though. Great package!
… @colonelkilgore The relentless pace with which you collect trophies is truly terrifying. Congrats!
In fairness, I’ve been pairing up what I would consider a ‘proper’ platinum (whatever that is 😅) with a real quick and easy platinum since hitting #111. I don’t plan on continuing the trend but my OCD kicked in when I realised that I had a decent shot at hitting #120 by the end of the year and #50 for 2022. Will be a very different 2023 for me I’d imagine.
@render cheers bud. Out of interest, you chasing any plat in particular right now?
@colonelkilgore I'm kind of in limbo on platinums at the moment after the GoWR one.
My main game is currently The Callisto Protocol and I am enjoying the game, however I'm finding the combat massively frustrating even on normal difficulty. One of the trophies is playing on max difficultly and even though there was an exploit you could use on the credits I believe they've patched it so it's unlikely I'll want to put myself through all that again.
Other than that I've got a couple of indie games on the go, The Artful Escape and Nobody Saves The World, so might polish those off at some point over the Christmas hols and those might result in a couple of plats. After that I'm not really sure but I do want to get back to Sekiro, although as I haven't got your skill level is unlikely to result in a platinum but I still want to at least get to the end 😅
@render you might be confusing my skill-level with my sheer bloody-mindedness 😅… still, I’m sure that there will be a host of square-pushers willing to provide any advice if you need it (myself included 👍).
The Artful Escape. What a great little game. I mean there's not a huge amount of game play but what is there is satisfying, even just walking around shredding your guitar. The jamming sections are great and as you'd imagine the music lifts the entire experience. I bet you can't get much closer to feeling like a "guitar hero" without any effort than this. Would highly recommend if you are just looking for a feel good indie game to fill a bit of time.
@colonelkilgore You've definitely got some skill to be able to pickup Sekiro after so long and just run with it, even if it is bloody mindedness that gets you over the finish line 😄
@Boodog Good job on Sonic Frontiers. Been hearing a lot of good things about the game so might have to take a look.
Congrats on Sonic Frontiers@Boodog! I very nearly pulled the trigger on picking it up today as it’s down to £30 again on amazon. Maybe when it hits £20 😉
@RogerRoger yeah I definitely suggest a return trip to Empire City for you bud. The free-flowing traversal and shooting reminded me just a little of Just Cause 3 which we’re both big fans of. Also, as someone who always plays ‘good’ in games, the villainous playthrough required for the plat is refreshing. It doesn’t really change things up too much in inFAMOUS but the changes are more significant in the sequel. But apart from the differences that are apparent… it’s the little things like not resuscitating civilians or bioleaching enemies that spices it up a bit.
