Am I the only one as taken by this game as Rocket League when it was made available? I've always looked away from MOBAs as they seemed really confusing and were generally rough for newbies unless you wanted to get shouted by a bunch of pc players (from what I've heard). I gave this a chance and after a few games against AI, I got really into it. You can kinda experiment with character builds and power ups to vary things and it's wonderful when a plan comes together. Playing against players is great too (had a 40 min duel with another guy trying to take my lane and it was awesome). To those who feel as I used to, I'd recommend trying it out. There are a lot of new players now so it's not a bad time to go in (everyone else is just as confused as I am). Anyone already playing it? Care to share tips? Thoughts? Criticisms? I'm maining Murdock and so far have had good success pushing through my lanes although he's easily cornered and killed. What heroes do you play as? What has your experience been so far?

p.s. it's pretty great to play when listening to Bill Burr rambling on his podcast so that may have an effect on my positive perception of it. That moment when you're slowpoke Murdock and get surrounded by 3 enemy heroes and Bill goes: "Ohh Jesus"

I have been playing Paragon for a while now before it was free on PS+ & love it, but I do play other MOBA's like Smite. I am surprised also by the lack of posts on here, & even though it's still in Early Access I would have thought Push Square would have suggested it. It's an excellent MOBA which also plays very different to other MOBA's, yes there is three lanes a jungle, buff's etc but how you actually play the game is different to other MOBA's especially as there are vertical areas. I also love making my own builds which again is different to other MOBA's the Card Deck you collect, it also has a good selection Heroes with new ones being added every three weeks. The graphics are amazing it looks excellent in every way, the detail is also amazing. If your into MOBA's you should definitely give Paragon a go, especially as it's free at the moment with PS+.

@banacheck: I think the perception of MOBAs as difficult to get into is kinda the reason for the limited discussion. It is kinda daunting and I don't know how friendly Paragon is to newbies compared to other MOBAs so it may be understandable, especially considering the length of matches and how much time people may have to spend. However when I get off an amazing game it kinds sucks there's not many at pushsquare who I could share it with haha. I love the verticality, the intricacies of the map, the speed (though that might change) and the deck system. I love finding shiny new rare cards and seeing what i could do with them. Plus a new hero every 3 weeks is an enticing prospect.
@Bliquid: I've heard it is different to other MOBAs and I was utterly new and confused a week ago but I think I'm getting the hang of it now. I'm not great but I kinda know why I'm sucking haha. My intention in creating this thread was to get discussion going and hopefully, some older newbies could help out some younger ones without complicating it. I'm absolutely willing to try to address some of the questions you have about the game. What specifically about the map and/or card system would you like to know more about? I've read around a bit (still am) so I can either try to answer it or find the answer out for you (for both of us really). I'm just getting the hang of map awareness and deck building

Bliquid & ShadowofSparta.

ShadowofSparta: I am glad you are enjoying Paragon & are getting the hang of it, if you would like to know anything just ask.

Bliquid: The Card system isn't really that hard once you know how it works, the same goes for the map. But seeing as you would be just starting Paragon your card collection will be very limited until you've played some games & earned some Rep, so I would suggest you use one of the decks Epic has created at the start of the game. You'll have to play Co-op Vs AI until you are level 5 anyway before you can go into a Player Vs Player game, so there isn't at lot of pressure to win while you get the hang of it. There is also Solo Vs AI but you don't earn XP & Rep in this mode, but it's a good way to learn the game & try out your deck builds. I am sure Epic gives you some free cards when you first start, the cards you use for a certain characters is important to how you want to build your character. Also when in-game what cards you pick first to upgrade is also important, especially early game to give you an edge over your enemies as you should be leveling to get your card points as fast as you can. I can give you both tips on this if you wish, every character has a different role in the game like a Tank who plays support or a jungler knowing your role is also important. As there is a lot of new players you'll will probably find you'll not get punished & or ganked as much if you make a mistake, so it would be a good time to start Paragon at the moment.

There's a Paragon Starter Pack listed under "Free Games" for Plus subscribers but there's no option available for me to download it. I don't play Paragon but I would like to download it anyways since its free. How do I download it?

EDIT: Wasn't able to download it from the online store but was able to download it via console.

@Bliquid: I tried Muriel for a couple of games and whilst her ultimate is cool, the general consensus right now is that she is vastly under-powered. Indeed, every caster has come under scrutiny as the meta is favouring rangers and fighters (apart from Gideon, but even he is underwhelming). For support, most people like Dekker so you may want to try a hand at her. When I play support, I go Tank with Steel and I love his abilities.

Deck building: Whenever you start a match, you get a choice of decks to choose from but every deck available is already built (either by you or EPIC). To customise or build your own, you have to do it in the hub rather than in-game. Go to your Profile tab, select decks (I think using R2 to move between options) and then press the Square button. It will let you select the hero for whom you would like to build a deck. Once you do that, it will bring up an option of customising the available starter and intermediate decks or you can select none and start from scratch. I started off customising until I got more cards to try experimenting with my own. I'm not sure what you mean by fixed growth path but the decks you build don't place any order to the cards you use. That is, in a match, you don't have to use the card that you placed first and, indeed, you can use whatever combination of cards in whatever order you see as most beneficial. It's not fixed from what I've seen. I've gone some games where I've used some but not all of the cards in my deck and another in which I used different ones. For example, my Steel deck has cards for extra Energy armor and for Physical armor. Depending on the Rangers on the enemy team, sometimes I'll buff my energy armor and in other matches I'll buff physical. Very rarely do I use both. i also have cards that I can use to buff either health or damage. In some matches I'll buff damage first if the other team has weak early game characters or I want to push opposing lanes back and in others I'll buff health because the opposing fighters are a lot to deal with. Decks can be as flexible as you like but you must remember you will only get 60 CXP to spend on them. Some decks will have more than that to give flexibility though all won't be used.

Last Hit: From what I understand Paragon is unique in that you don't need to always land last hits to get CXP. If you last hit and you are the only player around, you get all the CXP. But if you last hit and you're laning with someone else, you share the CXP. Similarly, if you don't last hit (say a minion lands it instead), you'll see the amber orbs on the floor that you or someone else on your team can collect for CXP. Last hitting is the quickest way to get Card Exp (CXP), but it's not the end of the world if you don't. This also mean you can duo a lane with someone without fighting for CXP (a godsend for supports).

First Objectives: Subjective haha. For someone in the jungle, first objective is to kill two white minion camps before the 2 min mark. You can pull it off in just under 2 min and they respawn at 2 mins so you can keep killing them. Every 2 mins they level up and will grant slightly more CXP but it's better to kill Level 1 camps continuously than letting them level (if possible, not always). At 3 mins, you can start placing the harvesters in your jungle to collect all those orbs that nobody is able to collect from minions doing last hits. At 6 mins, try to place the harvesters out wide and at 9 mins, you can place the middle harvester (these spawn at these time intervals and require a harvester key). From 9 mins, you can choose what to do. Junglers generally farm those minion camps, kill/ gank any overextended enemy characters and kill enemy jungle camps and enemy harvesters.
For laners, I would recommend trying to last hit minions in your lane. For the first 15 mins, I would recommend against taking any towers. Just focus on minions. Ignore enemy heroes on your lane unless you see a really good kill chance. As Murdock, I just try to last hit or focus on killing minions until I get to about 130 damage. If you hit a tower too early, the enemy will group up to protect it and you won't be strong enough to do much. I kill minions that reach halfway between our towers and try not to push them too far that they attack the enemy tower. This means I let my minions die but I can keep farming minions. This also means you're less likely to push too far and leave yourself open to an enemy jungler sneaking up behind you for a kill.

I know it's long but I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me or
@banacheck: know if you need me to clarify what I've written. I don't feel as though I've been very clear so I wouldn't mind feedback

I have a rough video I made of the last few mins of a recent match I had. For context, we were losing the match. Two inhibitors down, my team was on the defensive and one guy was AFK for pretty much the whole match. Nobody could help me go for OP so I had to solo it with Murdock. For these last few mins, my heart was absolutely racing. I knew that if I died killing OP or got swarmed by the enemy, I would be out for over a min and we would have probably lost so I was on edge trying to make sure I did not screw up. I am not a veteran player, still quite new to the game but I felt so epic afterwards. It's my first ever video so expect mistakes and shoddy work but I hope you get the gist.
