Topic: How manny games do you play at a time?

First off, this is my first post here after being a long time lurker. This is a question I have been thinking about. How manny games do you play at a time? For me it’s always been one. Though lately I have been wanting to try out maybe playing 2 at a time, because there’s usually just so much I want to play.

I’m very restrictive on what i play. Like basically I have to know what I want to play before I turn my console on, or else i just won’t even touch my console. I don’t really try out games when I buy them. Just kinda put them on my shelve to never be played again.

Because of this there’s whole consoles I haven’t touched. I bought my self a Xbox One last last year, to play some of the exclusives but just have barely touched the thing. Same goes for my Switch. It’s not that I don’t want to play my other consoles, no I actually want to play them quite a bit. It’s just because I’m so strict about what I play, I just never play them. It’s so weird i keep buying games for them too! Lol but yeah it’s quite frustrating for me. Right now I’m trying to loosen up a bit. Trying to play games I want to play, without overthinking it.

@TheOtherEden Great question! And welcome to the forums. Hope you stick around (and also vote in this generations best character bracket)

I always have at least two games I play on the PS4: one with my partner (these take usually very long to complete), and one or two games for myself.

Whether that's one or two really depends on the kind of game. Say I'm playing a very difficult game, or a very cinematic one, I might not always be in the mood for a game like that. Last two weeks those were Judgment and Danganronpa V3, and Vampyr with my partner.

I always have an active game on my Switch. In case I can't use the TV, or I wanna game while watching sports, or I'm on the road. Right now that's Dragon Quest XI.

And I always need a few arcad-y/multiplayer games, in case I'm up for short gaming sessions. So that's Fall Guys, Tetris 99 and Baba is You.

So always a few games at a time. I don't feel like I'm stretching myself in any way, because those are all games for different moments and situations.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I appreciate it! Yeah I hope i stick around too. I have a tendency of just up and leaving things a lot, haha. Yeah actually what you’re saying makes a lot of sense. Honestly I’m always scared to start games because I’m afraid of starting them and not finishing them. Also, I do like to finish games as fast as possible. Like if I take forever to finish one game, then i start to want to play other things, and i might just drop the game I’m currently playing for it. Perhaps I’m just overthinking things a bit! Haha.

I mean I’m so restrictive, that i won’t even start multiplayer games. Like Fall Guys for example, I will download it because everyone is talking about it, but i won’t ever really play it. Because it’s not one of my “main games” and it’s not the right moment to play it. I have to play it when I’m not playing anything else. But then I never end up playing it. Which makes me a bit sad honestly lol.

Honestly now that I’m typing all this up, I realized just how silly i sound! Haha, I guess I’m a bit too strict on my self.

I had DOOM and Assassin’s Creed III on the go there on PS4 but I’ve beaten DOOM now. I also have Zero no Kiseki on Vita, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on Wii U, Oblivion on PC along with a bit of Forza Horizon 4 when I feel like it. I play one or two games on each console at the one time but I have ADHD, it’s not often a game will grip me to shake off the urge to switch between about 5 different games. I rarely finish games in a sitting, I’ll go away and come back to them months later. So yeah, I’m just weird 😂

@TheOtherEden Welcome to the madhouse my friend!

Good topic. I tend to have one 'main' game and something else I play on the side like an online MP game. The latter used to be Star Wars Battlefront 2 but since I got the platinum this summer I haven't bothered with it. Fall Guys did fill this gap for a time but in all honesty despite the recent update I've become a bit bored of it.

My main game since late August has been RDR2 and this is my second playthrough. It's such a good game that I don't want to play anything else, I felt the same way first time round and also with the likes of The Witcher 3 and Persona 5.

I started Death Stranding a few weeks before The Last of Us Part II came out so initially flirted between the two but as I got sucked into the story Part II became my 'main' and when I did play Death Stranding it was more my chill out game, building roads and other structures and making basic deliveries. I only went back to the main story once I had wrapped up Ellie's 'adventures'.

So I guess for me it's a mix of things. Not sure what I'm going to play once I've finished Red Dead 2, maybe give Resi 2 another whirl what with Halloween coming up but I doubt it will be my sole game. Probably replay Spider-Man or maybe even Dragon Age Inquisition.

Be interesting to see how others play.

I used to play a few games at a time, but i was getting annoyed with myself as I was finding there were too many games i had only partly played. So recently I've been trying to only start a game once I've finished one. I'm not totally strict with this, as I still allow myself a quick bash on a puzzle game now and again, and also if I'm not enjoying a game I will drop it like its hot.

Yeah I feel you on that honestly. If I start multiple games per day. I will just switch different games like it’s in fashion or something haha. I never finished DOOM unfortunately. I’m tempted to jump back in it though.

@Col_McCafferty

Haha, glad to be a part of it.

Yeah I never finished Read Dead II, it’s on one of the top games I want to finish. Whenever I think how i still haven’t finished the story of the game. I feel like I need to turn on my PS4 immediately and just finish it.

Yeah I really like it when you’re playing a game and you just get sucked in to it and just can’t stop playing. Honestly that’s kinda what I’m trying to achieve when I’m playing one game at a time. But it doesn’t happen with every game i play, so maybe I should flirt with the idea of playing more games at once.

I actually started the first Resident Evil last night, it’s pretty amazing honestly and I loved 2 and 4.

@Areus

Do you usually beat both games in a timely matter? Do you feel like maybe you could beat them faster, if you played them one at a time?

@JohnnyShoulder

Yeah I feel like that’s what happens when you play multiple games at a time. Just a bunch of games with only parts finished.

@TheOtherEden I find it relatively easy to stick with one 'main' game until I finish it but appreciate that not everyone is the same.

How far are you into RDR2? The key with that game is to try and do some exploring or stranger missions in between the main ones. I absolutely adore this game but it is true that the main story missions tend to end in a bloodbath lol. Mixing things up tends to keep things fresh plus I always try and prepare before a key mission, stock up on the essentials like snake oil and health potions and make sure my guns are clean and I have selected the right ammo. Then I'm ready to unleash Hell!

It's always exciting starting a brand new game, the middle part is one where it may start to feel a tad rote but by the end you're racing to get to the finish, not just because you're keen on starting a new one but also because you want to see how it ends.

I was like that with The Last of Us Part II, swore I'd take my time with it but I reached a certain stage where I didn't want to put it down. Partly because I needed to reach the conclusion before anything else could be spoiled for me!

I think i stopped at around Chapter 3 or 4? Their hideout was at the swampy place. I have restarted the game now though and I’m at Chapter 2 in the first area of the game.

Me too! Towards the end of Abby’s story. I just wanted to get to the end. In order to finally see how everything intertwines and concludes with both stories. The final part when you’re in the movie theater as Abby, when you’re looking for Ellie, my heart was beating so fast haha.

@Col_McCafferty Just a heads up, we’re starting Resident Evil 2 as part of the Game Club next week! Feel free to join in the discussion if you do end up playing it.

@TheOtherEden Ah Chapter 2, good times. Chapter 3 as well. I adore the rest of the game but those are the two chapters when the gang is at it's most happy and optimistic.

Yeah the narrative is so good in TLoU 2, in particular the Abby half although her Day One in Seattle could've been a bit shorter.

It's such a tense and bleak yet beautiful game. I well definitely replay it once it's been updated on PS5.

@nessisonett Okay nice one. I've been trying to stretch out the epilogue in RDR2 but likely to finish it tomorrow. I'll try and explore and enjoy the cowboy life once I have finished the story but there comes a point when enough is enough.

I may end up starting Resi 2 before next week but keep it under your hat.

I only play 1 at a time - I haven't mastered the art of playing multiple games simultaneously with just 2 hands - needed for most games these days... LOL

However, I can have multiple games in my current playlist - I don't always just stick to one game until its finished. I don't always feel like I want a game that requires too much thought or attention to story, plot lines etc. Sometimes I need to take a break from a challenging boss for example and play something different before returning to it. I have a LOT of games in my backlog in various states that I still intend to play more of. Sometimes I jump into one game whilst the game I intended to play is updating or downloading some new DLC content

I have MANY games I consider 'in progress' but I can only play 1 game at a time...

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

@TheOtherEden How Fast I'am Able To Get The Platinum Depends On The Game. Like If It's Something Like Monster Hunter World Or Persona 5 It Could Take Me a Good Minute. As Opposed To Games Like The Spyro Collection And The Telltale Games Which You Could Finish Within a Few Hours.

I traditionally have played 2-4 games at a time — my intent is to have a long epic game and concurrently have a short to mid-sized game, and/or an indie or what we call a “palate cleaner” game in the mix also that is different from the standard fare.

However, I have fallen into the trap lately of having too many games going at once and I’ve learned that about 3 is the max that I can really handle, or else one of them is likely to just get squeezed out and lost in the shuffle. Several of my games have been orphaned in the process since my interest can’t be equally divided too thinly.

Right now I have Danganronpa V3 and DOOM 16 going concurrently, each are unique from one another so I don’t get too bored of one. I’m planning to complete DOOM if possible before starting the Game Club Halloween-inspired playthrough of Resident Evil 2 soon. There may be a small overlap there of 3 games concurrently but I think I’ll be able to avoid it.

That said, I do have a drop in, drop out game or two on the table too — it’s Dreams right now where I occasionally play a few creations for a diversion. A month ago it was NBA2K20 where I played a pick up game occasionally if I just wanted a quick distraction of the sports variety.

But as far as story driven games with an actual ending, I think I’ve discovered 3 is about the max that my little brain can handle without collapsing on itself.

Welcome to the forums, by the way @TheOtherEden !
