@nomither6 Yep, it's my first time playing it. I think it's hard for me to choose my favourite one since I've played them so far apart. What I can say though is that it's my second favourite PS2 era 3D platformer in terms of it, Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter, with Ratchet & Clank being my favourite one. The first Jak & Daxter was fantastic, but the second and third games were awful due to their high difficulty. The Sly games are just in general tons of fun and not that challenging. The missions are also very varied in these games. You can tell that they were made by developers who put a lot of thought into making truly enjoyable experiences.

@LtSarge you’re in for a treat then , lucky you. i’ve beaten 3 so many times as a kid i’ve lost count , it’s one of the greatest platformers of all time and the sense of adventure and variety is so fun, & the story is the cherry on top. i miss when games were kid-friendly but not kid oriented , unlike the R&C 1 remake - it was just way too childish for me.

@Yousef- It's a great franchise! Every mainline game is just so much fun to play. It doesn't get more fun than constantly acquiring new and cool weapons that level up the more you use them. It's such a brilliant gameplay loop that I don't understand why there aren't more series that have copied this formula.

@nomither6 That's great to hear! Like I mentioned before, I'm glad the game doesn't have collectibles so that I can only focus on the fun missions and not get distracted by other stuff. I mean sure, you have to steal money from the enemies in order to get upgrades, but I find that fun to do.

@LtSarge yup, never a dull moment with that game & its only right for the gang to steal for some upgrades, gotta live up to that theivus racconus reputation. plus they only steal from criminals so its all good, haha.

@Yousef- What perplexes me is why these huge companies with a long history haven't realised the way to release simpler games alongside their more complex titles. Take Sony for example, their first-party titles take years to come out. So why not assign some studios to create simpler games that we saw back in the PS2/PS3 eras. While we're waiting for Ghost of Tsushima 2 or Horizon 3, have other studios pump out 10 hour experiences like a new Killzone or Sly Cooper. Surely these games can't take more than a few years to develop considering how short and linear they are compared to the more complex titles. I mean, the only major company that does this is Nintendo and it's working out great for them, not to mention that their fanbase is very content with their output.

Both Sony and Microsoft are sitting on a treasure trove of IPs that they are completely neglecting all the while development times for games in general are becoming longer. The solution to that problem is to go back to your history and make simpler games. It absolutely baffles me how they haven't figured this out yet.

So have been chipping away at the online GTA IV requirements since last week and… absolute nightmare. Having completed and gained a win in each and every game mode - death match, team death match, mafiya work, team mafiya work, car jack city, team car jack city, cops & crooks all for one, cops and crooks one for all, all 3 co-op missions and all 108 races… the Auf Wiedersehen Petrovic trophy didn’t pop.

Oh well, I’ve put far too much time in now to quit… from the top then, once more with feeling 😅.

@colonelkilgore
A couple of alternative descriptions for that trophy...
"I bet you are glad to see the back of this one"
Or
"That's livin' alright"

You deserve the platinum if you can figure out the second reference.

@CaptD unfortunately I’m old enough to get that second reference 😅

@Yousef- yeah I’ve been playing the single player campaign too and really enjoying it tbh. Probably quite close to the end of the main story now and done bits and pieces of side stuff. It’s a great story and Nico is a fanatic protagonist but my feelings going in remain. The open world of Liberty City still feels a little claustrophobic to me, together with the driving and gunplay feeling too heavy and sluggish though. This hasn’t prevented me from enjoying the game though… it’s still right up there for sure.

So the main story on GTA IV is done and honestly… the narrative at least is one of the strongest in the series, if not the strongest. Although I was taking my time and just living and breathing in Liberty City, I realised that I was in with a chance of the Liberty City Minute trophy with about 20 missions to go and couldn’t resist the challenge of trying to finish inside of 30 hours played, so I changed tack and just mainlined that last section. Never played a GTA like that but it was quite exhilarating trying to make the time - made it in 29 hours and 4 minutes but if you were to actually to go for it from the start I honestly think it could be done in 10 hours.

Just have all the Flying Rats, Stunt Jumps, side jobs etc… as well as the dreaded online trilogy of Fly the Co-op, Auf Weidersehen Petrovic and Wanted to go. If I manage to get those and it’s no formality what with Auf Weidersehen Petrovic already glitching for me once… but if I do, I’m gonna keep one simple trophy back, so I can pop it for GTA IV to be platinum #200. I’ve been trying to work out a suitable #200 since… well #100 😅… and this one feels right.

Well done and I agree the narrative was great, I prefer gta4 to 5 although the world of gta5 is a lot more vibrant and has colour.
I reckon you need a break after that, perhaps go for a spot of bowling or something.

@CaptD 🤣 done enough bowling, pool and darts etc. too tbh 😅

Been playing Resistance: Fall of Man, I don't remember this game being that hard when I played it way back in like 2010

One of the real ****y GTA IV online trophies down… man I can’t tell you the relief of having Fly the Co-op done. Those Rockstar Dev completion times are crazy and while there are strats out there… I must’ve played Dealbreaker around 40 times this week (with a couple of nights where I didn’t get to bed til past 4:30am) but I hooked up with a real solid group tonight and we all got the trophy… good times! 😅

Started Dead Space again. I did initially try it in 2019 but I was using a cheap and nasty 3rd party controller and found the gunplay surprisingly janky. I’ve restarted it today but with a proper refurbed dual shock 3 and it’s made a massive difference. Plays like butter fair play. Really enjoying it.

Grand Theft Auto IV - finally… FINALLY managed to pop the Auf Weidersehen Petrovic trophy. It popped around 90% of the way through my second go around… the relief is ****ing palpable! 😅 The plat is now on, with just one more online trophy left… the grind to level 10 for the Wanted trophy. Which as I’ve alluded to… is a massive grind but I’m far more confident of that popping than I was of AWP.

@Yousef- oh yeah… and all 200 Flying Rats exterminated 😉

Dead Space - yeah, so the more I play… the more of a masterpiece I’m making of it. Im probably 60% of the way through my first playthrough and just really enjoying it. I’m hoping to get all three of the series done over the next few months and can only hope that playing all of them in such close proximity doesn’t leave me feeling burned out on the series.

Great stuff on the GTA, just a shame that you nearly played all of the trophy requirements again.
Dead Space is awesome, I imagine it' still looks great with oodles of atmosphere and one of the current gen remakes that wasn't really required imo but I'm glad they did it anyway.
Old gen version is a harder plat than current gen btw.
