While it may seem as a controversial opinion I like still think it would be cool if Sony could add some sort PS3 backward comparability to PS5 because even tough there might not be that many PS3 exclusive I think there is no overstatement that there is a few games that that are still only available on PS3. And well for every year that passes I get like more and more unsure about if the PS3 that is in my closet will even boot...

@oliverp yeah I still have a fair few that should see me through to the end of the year mate. From memory I have the Dead Space trilogy, Star Wars: The Force Awakens 2, The Saboteur, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Remember Me, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Deadly Premonition, Alpha Protocol, Rage and Deus Ex: Human Revolution… I’ve probably missed a couple too tbh.

So just had my first little go on Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and overall it’s pretty much what i expected. It feels like a late PS3 era Sony first party game… even though it isn’t one. Heavy narrative focus, good production values, a partner along for the ride and pretty fun to boot.

The only thing that has stood out as a negative so far is these bloody red orb collectibles… there are LOADS of them and you need each and every one for the platinum… and they’re known to glitch too 😫. Oh well I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it and just enjoy the ride for the time being.

Oh man, interesting choice! I have that on my steam wishlist. Not sure when I’ll get around do it though.

The orb collectibles strangely remind me of Jak & Daxter!

@Yousef- I haven’t played Jak & Daxter but yeah, if there are a truckload of orb collectibles it sound similar in that regard at least. I’d imagine the game runs a lot better on PC as it seems to be putting my PS3 through its paces if you get me. Apart from a rough frame rate, there’s a real strange blurring when I rotate the camera too. I’ve gotten over it now I suppose but was quite glaring when I first booted it up.

The art style and world design are stunning though, so that really does supersede the technical drawbacks inherent to the platform.

@colonelkilgore funnily enough, I actually can’t tell for sure if it’d be great on pc either. A lot of PC games from the 7th gen were actually just as subject to buggy optimization as their console counterparts. BioShock being a great example. And GTA IV as well, allegedly. In fact the further you go back, the harder it’ll be to find even in 16:9 or with controller support, forcing to map all the keys.

If I remember correctly though, it came out in 2012, yes? That’s around the part where ports gotten a lot better. I’ll definitely report back on it when I can though. The game does feel like my kinda thing.

@trev666 Maybe it's a good thing I don't usually care about getting a platinum for a game. I loved Enslaved when I finally played it for the first time last year. A mess technically, but the game still shined through the mess.

I go back and forth on trophy hunting. Some games I base my opinions on completionism, some i base on casual playthroughs.

@colonelkilgore He remembered... But my decision still stands to never ruin my experience of that game and go for the platinum.

@KilloWertz it wasn’t that bad a collect-a-thon in the end I suppose, just had to mop them up on chapter-select. Glad I finally played it even if it didn’t quite hit in the way I hoped.

@Fritz167 up there with the best first posts ever fair play 🤣

@colonelkilgore I think at least a big part for me was I was able to highly enjoy the characters, story, and voice work in spite of the massive technical issues the game has. Obviously I thought the gameplay was fine, but it was those that were the driving force for me if I remember correctly.

Playing Call of Duty Classic. Over 20 years old and still stands up as a brilliant game. But man alive, some of it is infuriatingly hard, even on the medium difficulty level. I remember now why I used to get through so many controllers......I am this close to slinging my precious PS3 controller out the window!

@KilloWertz yeah I agree, those aspects were really well done, particularly for the time. As I’ve said previously though, I think I just went in expecting to love it… and it didn’t quite hit the way I hoped. Still a good game though no doubt.

@colonelkilgore Fair enough. I've had games where I went into them with too high expectations and they didn't quite live up to them, maybe partially because the expectations were too high. There's obviously the exception when they do actually live up to expectations, like Horizon Forbidden West for me, but then there's games like The Outer Worlds where I enjoyed it but didn't love it like some others might have because of expectations.
