Topic: Recommend me good movement games for never owned console owner

After thinking very very hard, taking advice from few people/forums I am thinking of buying a ps3 with the move bundle. I live on the second floor flat, and have about 2.2m free space to work with-which is a slight problem for Kinect as it does not work. I've heard wiimote plus is not as accurate as move. Also, some people think its slightly obscene to buy a wii which does not offer much out of the box. I don't have a bluray (don't care-don't watch movies) but costwise ps3 is just a whole lot better. That said, my amazon wishlist is full of ps3 and wii hardware (still undecided).

Since I'm away studying from my house at the moment, I don't have the treadmill, dumbbells. I use to run on the treadmill like three times a week. I've gotten a bit bored with the dumbbells as its not really moving, and I don't want to just tone my abs. I thought that I could neglect my exercise completely throughout the 4 years being away, but now 3 years in, I can feel my body unresponsive as it used to be-prompting me to consider ditching my love for pc sim racing (with my DFGT) and off the couch.

Since Ps3 itself is not cheap, I'm looking for move games which will keep me active. I would not mind fun in the way and having a sense of accomplishment is actually quite good. I don't think I can start intensive workout after three years neglect. I've played just dance once and I like it. I tried the kinect adventures and like it but then you need that huge space.

So does anyone know any good games that will get you off the couch and breaking sweat? It can be fun. Gym membership in UK is expansive, and being on the second floor means that I can't get something like DDR which requires me to jump without upsetting the neighbour below. The only aim I want to get a console is to get me off the couch, though I admit I used to play RPGs, Strategy's though really that is defeating the purpose of buying the console in the first place.

I'm only one opinion, but for me, the Move is not really an active-type controller.  Honestly, some of the best Move implementations can be done while sitting on your couch.

Moreover, while I don't have a Kinect to test against, I do believe the most active Move titles require just as much space to play.

From what I've tried, whether I own it, or tried the demos, Sports Champions is an excellent title that can really get you moving, especially the fighting game  (not a big fan of their volleyball game, but it can provide a workout.)

The reviews have generally been pretty bad for the title The Fight: Lights Out, but based upon what users (rather than reviewers have said) the game is decent and an excellent workout.

What about EA sports active 2?

One Answer!!! Hands Down Winner!

Kung-Fu Live for the PS3 Eye Camera!! It came out just a couple months ago.

There is probably no game more active than that one! You use your whole body and the Camera Tracks you. Only like $10-$15 on the PSN.
They also have a Demo of it on the PSN.

It's a Pure workout!! lol People loved it, albeit it's not very in-depth in content.

Just try the Demo and you'll see!

Don't have a ps3 yet, can't try anything. I'm just looking to see the number of decent amount of move games before I make the plunge.

On another note, is it true the best time to buy the console is nearer to Christmas holiday as prices games will be more then?

Wait a week and I'll get back to you on this.  I got the "game" for Christmas (lol) but haven't gotten around to opening it.  And it won't be reviewed on this site as it doesn't use the Move controller, but instead comes with it's own motion sensors.

You've given me a reason to have a look, so I'll get into it tonight, or more likely tomorrow.

Have a look at some of the reviews on this site, however, as there are some Move exercise games that got decent marks.

Welcome to the site mystvearn!

For get-up-and-move kind of games, I rather liked My Fitness Coach: Club (or Fit in Six) - a mix of exercises, some use Move and some don't. There's cardio, flexibility, core strength and more plus you can buy extra workouts online too. Definitely worth a go, and you can read my My Fitness Coach Club review if you want.

Otherwise Sports Champions is still worth a go, but in terms of "get up, get moving" kind of games I think that's more Kinect's bag than Move's, really.

Hope that helped!

Thank you James.

Can I know if the EA Sports Active 2 review coming or it does not fall under movemodo's criteria?

I really hope there is some kind of starwars game coming out where you actually don't realize that you are having a workout-then grinding will be more fun

As EA Sports Active 2 doesn't use the Move controller itself -- like Kung Fu Live -- we won't be reviewing it here. I've reviewed EA Sports Active 2 on Kinect which might give you some insight into the game's qualities.

As for a Star Wars game, I would keep your eyes peeled around E3 time

@myst - the Gladiator game on sports champions was surprisingly demanding...maybe it's cause I was used to the Wii "who cares what you're doing with the controller--anything qualifies as a slash" swordfighting style, but I was surprised how heavy of a movement you needed to perform to really do well.  I lost 3 straight fights (jumped in midway through the second set of opponents so I didn't get to ramp up on easy people) before I got the hang of it....and it might've been the cigarettes, but I was pretty darn winded by the time I'd fought my fourth straight time and won.

But yeah.  Sports Champions will probably scratch that itch for you quite well without additional bank-breaking.

And yeah--welcome to the small-but-hopefully-growing community.

Depends really; I mean, the Gioteck triggers are only 40p anyway, so not much of a deal-clincher!

How much do you want to spend? The £269.99 320GB deal looks to be the best, money-saving wise, but obviously it's up to your spending limits

I just noticed that the move starter pack is different in that link.

That one is this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/PlayStation-Mov … R9C7ZHKZ4S

and the other one is this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/PlayStation-Mov … 112&sr=8-1

It looks like it does not come with the move game in the first link. The game itself is about £30 which is like buying another move...

I am looking anything <£300 for a good startup. So that is in my current budget

The Starter Pack in the blue box contains a Starter Disc of about 11 demos, not a full game in itself, so you're not really missing out. All those demos are available on PSN anyway, so you could always download the ones you're interested in, or pick up the pre-owned disc from Gamestation, for example.

I think for £300 you should be able to get set up. Remember if you're planning to play Killzone 3 with Move comfortably you'll need a Navigation too -- it's not essential but makes gaming much more comfortable

Bought that as well. Got a a month free Amazon Prime. Not really that I like FPS, its just that it seems that this is a highly praised games based on different reviewers. It also seems that there is not much difference between My Fitness coach club and EA sports active 2. Will be getting the EA sports active 2 from my local Argos-that way if the USB dongle is crap, I could RMA it easily.

I'm not really a FPS fan myself but I enjoyed the time I spent with Killzone. If it gets you into the genre there are plenty of other Move-enabled games out there like it too, with the promise of more on the horizon. Should be good!

Let me know what you think of EA Sports Active on PS3!

Just got my PS3, Move, Navcon and Killzone bundle today quite late at 5pm. Then another hour of recharging peripherals, flashing newest driver, making account and all those mundane stuff.

EA Sports Active 2 for PS3 is great. It comes with 3 wrap around sensors (both arms, and right leg). I thought at first you needed the Eye to make it work, but turns out it has its own BT dongle. I can understand why people said the BT dongle was not working, you have to switch everything on in order-following the instructions on screen. I spent a good 5 mins standing there and my left arm dongle was still not synced when the others were. Once that was done, everything was smooth. I took about an hour trying a 20 min workout (because due to the tutorial as I don't know the moves). In that brief workout heart rate shot up to 148 bpm, and about 93 cal which is actually quite low compared to my years of jogging on the treadmill where 4.4km at 4km/hour and 250 cal burned (in 1 hr). I guess this was more due to the fact that I only had one workout on and spending more time looking at the tutorial rather than playing, and judging by getting used to the exercises, this will go longer. I think I could skip the tutorial at the screen and actually if I just do it fast, I could actually pass the 250 cal just from jogging only.

Few things which I could not do was the jumping and running exercises due not wanting to disturb the neighbour below jumping around at 8pm. I could of sort of get away with running by just moving it but not lifting feet up, but the heading the ball into the goal was a disaster. This game really sees and can tell when you are not jumping or crouching properly during training weighs. Good thing you could skip the challenge and move on to another one though its a shame that I can't do it longer. I think I need to reschedule the training earlier in the day to get more time in and find some sort of pillow that could absorb the vibrations caused from jumping. Do you think a pilow or air bed or whatever works?

At first I thought the heart rate was a gimmick, sure its cool to get your heart rate displayed with a heart tension level, but your trainer actually tries to pump you up or slow you down depending on which training you are doing. Though pumping up was not that efficient with me (maybe its due to the bloke I chose-changed to the girl see what happens next time), but slowing down is. The subtle change of pace shown by the trainers actually help. Also the included tension cord is fine, but I think a bit flimsy. I think its better to use proper 1.5kg weights. I am quite afraid this thing will snap and go everywhere. It does work though. And if you want more resistance, just stand further apart or stretch it more.

If I get cramps tomorrow then either the cool down sessions were not good or more likely I have not exercise in a long time. Actually the most addictive part to me is viewing my profile/progress online. Though its still the first day, and I am not going to say anything in the long run-will come back again. At £30 now, its actually quite good value when NFS Shift 2U is £25 and all you get there is just a DVD not even a wheel. This comes with a lot of kit. I am not sure how much does it cost to buy a portable heart monitor, but it looks like a bargain with three monitors.

I have not yet tried Killzone 3 and at this rate I am not sure when yet. On another note, is there a way to buy from the PSN on the PC rather than putting all the card details in the machine? Or if that is not possible, topping up credit using the computer rather than through the console? I've read a lot of stories where kids go on a shopping spree with the credit card info saved in the console.
