So recently the Destiny beta was on giving gamers the chance to play 25% of the game and one of my friends you is a rabbid Xbox fan said that the best place to play online games is the Xbox and its live service and he told me all these reasons why the live service is better now I'm not saying that psn is better but I tried to tell him that they were closer than he thinks and he keeps saying why does it always go done for maintenance or why do people always get locked out of there account and when I say true but that doesn't happen all the time he just says one is garbage and that it is terrible to play on online on psn I don't think it is but I wanted to know what you guys think and how you feel about psn at the moment
Do you realize that you did not use a single period during that paragraph? No like grammar is important or anything.
And I don't really see the point to your question. If you support Sony then you have to use their service, and if you support Microsoft then you have to use Live. I don't really understand why you're asking which one is better. It's not like you're choosing a phone plan here. You've probably already decided which service you think is better by choosing to own one console over another.
My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."

Yes I do understand that I did not use any punctuation I'm writing a post on a forum not a essay for high School biology and second I just wanted to know what you guys thought because maybe I wanted to get an Xbox one later on down the line that way I can know which one would be better for me to play online games on
Well it sounds to me that your friend is just closed minded and you aren't going to change what he thinks. Just play and enjoy what you like and let him play and enjoy what he likes. You aren't going to see eye to eye on everything after all if everyone did like the same things this world would be pretty boring.
As for their services I can't say I like one better the only thing is I do like Sony's free monthly games lineup better the MS's but other then that I haven't had any problems with either. I did have my Xbox Live Gold account hacked a few years ago and that was a pain in the butt to get MS to fix it but other then that I haven't had any major problems with either service.

The use of PlayStation Network is still free on the PS3 system. As far as the downtime on PSN for maintenance. Sony has an investment in the network that they have and is what works for them. They do periodic updates for many reasons to keep that investment functioning the best that it can. As of a few years ago user can now get online with games and use applications like Netflix during the maintenance periods the only things unavailable to user are the PlayStation Store, Account Management, Account Registration and PlayStation Home if you are into that kind of thing. I my self after using PSN service for seven years have never had my account molested in any way at all.
Xbox Live is better as a service as all of their online stuff is sent through their MASSIVE server arrays in 4 locations around the world costing (Last time I checked) about $500,000,000. The reason they never go down for maintenance is because they can incrementally upgrade their servers due to the sheer number without knocking people offline. Sony's array is pretty pitiful due to creating a peer to peer service for online play with PS3 effectively making each PS3 a virtual server. Whilst this makes virtually no impact on online gaming, even with twitch based 60fps games like CoD, it is more unstable and prone to occasional drop-outs (Which I imagine everybody has experienced on multiple occasions). However, Sony are now investing massive amounts of cash in their infrastructure and building their network up to Microsoft's level so that all gaming will be server based too. This is coming hand in hand with making PS Plus required for online play with PS4 moving forward - speaking of which... (1-nil to MS at the moment) Games with Gold - Hopeless at present. Utterly hopeless. Games worth about £3 that everybody has already played, that's not made the Xbox community happy. On the contrary, PS Plus is absolutely fantastic value and appeals to everybody. So good in fact that everyone's gained unrealistic expectations for it and are now unhappy that the PS4 doesn't have AAA games for free already, which is unfair at best! The first month I had PS Plus I got Mass Effect 3 and Infamous... 2 I think? and Mass Effect was still £35 at the time which blew my mind, not to mention Uncharted 3 and the others that were free. I've so far given Sony £70 for Plus and they've given me over £200 worth of games. Score (MS 1-1 Sony) Conclusion - It'll all be even in the end so there's no point in basing any judgements on the connection itself, or even the additional services like GWG and Plus. It's the business attitude and exclusive games that matter. Games are obvious, but the attitude of the companies are the reason they head in their respective directions.
Pro tip - Stick with Sony. If you need any more help, refer to E3 2013. Just search YouTube for "Microsoft royally screws over it's long standing fan base with the TVBox One"
... That's the most I've ever written anywhere for anything... I should consider doing something more useful with my time!!

Live is better than PSN but Sony are catching up. Problem is Live is hardly standing still so it will always be better, whether it be a tiny bit or huge. Plus was a huge point but in the last year it's becoming progressively worse (just my opinion) now we have to pay to go online with PS4 as why should Sony care about enticing you on to it with loads of great games when you need it now regardless? It's getting better again though so hopefully Sony have learnt their lessons.
DualWielding
I don't play online, but at least on PS3 PSN have better pricing for digital games and sales are better and more frequent so PSN wins in my book
Pricing and sales on PSN in Europe are so far beyond appalling they actually just make you laugh. The current sale, for example, is just pathetic. Reducing games from stupid prices to what they should have been when they first came out is not a sale, it's a slap in the face to the customers they seem less and less interested in. Digital is the future? You'll have to remortgage your house to buy more than two games a year soon.
I have no problem's with Sony's PS4 network, it's a big step-up from the PS3 but that was also free. Microsoft's Xbox Live was a lot better last gen than this gen but it was also payable, but since the launch of the XBOXONE & PS4 Xbox Live is far from an advantage over the PSN.

You can buy from US PSN even if you are in Europe, that's what I do and I'm in Australia, saves lots of money, things would be 3 times the price if I bought from Australian PSN
Coincidentally, a good friend of mine uses xbox live. I can tell you from personal experience that live goes down MUCH more than psn.(He is becoming disgruntled with Microsoft as of late and makes a point to call or text me everytime he has a problem with live). Oh and btw, you do not have to pay for plus membership to use the psn. I purchased games and used many of the applications before I decided to buy plus.
I played about half of last generation on Xbox and I must be honest, at the time Live was amazing. I cannot remember the year but it was when 1 vs 100 was out. Me and my friends use to play that so much and the best thing was it was free. From there onwards I felt like M$ stopped carring about their customers. It felt like "We have your money now - be happy that you can play online". This is when I left Xbox completly and moved over to Playstation 100%. I joined Plus about a month before the IGC came into force and when this happened, boy, Sony gave M$ the middle finger. Yes they both have pros and cons but to me Plus is worth every penny. I own all Sony consoles so the value for money is incredible.
To end this, this is how I see both companies;
Sony is all about the players and the games. Xbox is about entertainment.
Best thing to do is look at what you want from a service and choose. I choose games so this is why I am here.
