Hey folks, I've been scouring the internet looking for solutions to this problem but haven't been able to. Hoping to find the help I need here!

I've been happily playing my PS4 on my Samsung flatscreen for the past few months with no issues. Then just yesterday, the screen froze completely and I had to manually shut off the system by pressing the start button for several seconds until it turned off.

Since then, whenever I turn the system on the console itself seems to boot up just fine - the light glows blue and then solid white - but my TV will show a message that says "mode not supported". I also am unable to get my controllers to sync up with the console despite them being fully charged. They'll blink white a few times and then shut off.

Things I've tried:

Turning everything off and back on again
Unplugging and re-plugging everything multiple times
Plugging the TV and system into different power outlets

Many trouble shooting tutorials I've found online seem to suggest booting the PS4 in safe mode, but I'm not sure how that's possible when I can't even get the display to show up on my TV now.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

That error message usually means the TV does not support the resolution the Device is sending to it. Have you tried a different HDMI cable? Try using a shorter cable if yours is very long, also try a different HDMI port on the tv if you have one. Try re-setting the resolution on the tv too. If you have access to another game console try plugging it in, if it works then it’s likely an internal problem with the PlayStation.

Also try the console on another TV if you have access to one. If it’s doing the same thing then you will know for sure where the problem lies. More often than not it will be stupidly simple. Fingers crossed!!

@Papashadow I did try a different HDMI cable to no avail. I don't have another console or another TV so am unable to test it that way. Hmmm...

Well, that’s a start, you have ruled out the hdmi cable, what our need now is to determine if it’s the tv or the console that is causing the problem. Maybe a good neighbour or a friend would let you use their tv for 5 mins to test it??

@Papashadow

I was able to connect my laptop to the TV using an HDMI cable and could get picture without issues. So I’m now reasonably sure the problem is with the console. I called a repair shop and they told me it’s probably the HDMI port on the console...Although the port doesn’t appear (to my admittedly untrained eye) to be damaged. Super annoying.

They never do look damaged, but overtime just something as simple as plugging or unplugging the cable can be enough to damage them, I damaged mine just by using the cable plugged in to move the console to face a different direction, stupid I know, but there you are. I would have said a damaged hdmi port, or graphics card. It will be sorted in no time!! 👍
