Well now since I have a PRO and bought the Frozen Wilds DLC (and my HZD save file wasn't in the cloud for some reason), I decided to start the game from scratch. But damn, the game is beautiful in lit up scenes, but when it gets dark you can't see anything basically. I turned off the HDR to check the difference and it seems so much better.
Thing is, we have a 4k tv and a pro...we want to use HDR right?
In most games I notice that darks are pretty hard to see, but this game just wins the cup.

Does your TV have a gamma setting? Mine doesn't have HDR so I don't know if changing that setting will help you, but sometimes I have to change it when dark scenes in a game are too dark.

@andreoni79 yes it has. Thing is the other games are basically fine tuned to the tv, for instance, I am playing FF7 with no problems at all

And what about the dynamic colour setting? That one and gamma are the only two I change since it's way faster than changing every other single setting...

@AFCC I've found HDR to be very individualistic. Some people rave about it, others can't see a difference, and folks like me actually prefer it deactivated because they play games which are supposed to be alive with vibrant colour, not striving for realism (and it mucks up using Photo Mode, too). Each game implements HDR differently, as well. It's something the developers add, it isn't a standard across all games.

Horizon is a game which sits on the fence between "realism" and "living comic book", as it has fantastical elements alongside beautiful, natural environments. It has stunning HDR support for its daytime lighting but, as you say, I found it way too dark at night.

Used to play with HDR on all the time, then I started turning it off depending on the game. Now I just leave it deactivated. I don't think it adds anything; rather, it just dulls vibrancy.

Maybe you'll have to consider it on a game-by-game basis?

@RogerRoger Will probably disable it then, it just feels super dark and what bothers me most is the transition between moonlight areas and dark areas.

@andreoni79 tv settings?

Nighttime looks terrible in HZD. Everything looks green. I wish it was pitch black lol; maybe give you the option to craft a torch to use in HZD2.

@AFCC Yes, tv settings, but maybe each brand and model may vary on that side. I have an old 1080 LG and sometimes I struggle to find the best combo between Gamma, Dynamic colour and Black level since it seems that what works with one doesn't work with another...
But those who have HDR surely know better the problem.
