Hey guys, new here, so I’m not sure if this is the right place to post, so delete / move if needed.

I’ve had my PS4 for years now, and never really had any trouble with updates up until maybe 2 months ago. All of a sudden when I turned the console on I had a message saying “Cannot start PS4. Connect the Dualshock 4 using the USB Cable and then press the PS button. Once I did as instructed I get a message saying “Connect a USB storage device thay contains an update file for reinstallation for version 8.50 or later” and that’s where I hit a wall.

I’ve tried to update to 8.50 via safe mode both by USB and through internet, both went through the entire process of installing the update only for the message “cannot start ps4” to come up upon restart. The only thing that worked for me was initialise ps4 option, which loses all my saved games etc. This is the third time it happened in the space of 2 months. Is it a case of a faulty hard drive? Or something else?
