Hi there, sorry, this may be a minor issue with either an easy fix or something I'm missing, but thought I'd ask anyway. I just bought a 1 TB External Hard Drive for my PS4. It's all set up and linked as the Application Install Location, but whenever I try to download a game, it tells me there's no space and proceeds to send me to my storage for just the PS4. I could move all my storage onto my hard drive and then download games that way, but is there an easier way to do this / fix this? Thanks!

Go to the Settings menu from your PS4 home screen.
Scroll down to ‘Storage’.
Choose which location you want to download to – either System Storage or your external HDD.
Press the ‘Options’ button and select ‘Application install location’ to set the target download location – either ‘System Storage’ or ‘Extended Storage’.

@Zeke68 Hi there,

As I mentioned before I have no problem in changing the external hard drive to the main application install location, but rather I was wondering why when I make it that, it doesn't download to my hard drive's location and instead tries to download to my regular storage, which is why I get the 'Unable to download' error message when downloading games. Again, I could move all of my stored games now onto my Hard Drive then download onto my main storage, but this would take a long time and preferably I would rather it just download straight to the hard drive like it's supposed to, so if there is any other way this could be fixed I'd appreciate it.

Thank you!

I should download directly to the assigned drive, no matter if it's the internal or the external.
Just 2 questions:
1) If you check under storage does the external say "‘Application install location" ?
2) Are you sure you formatted the external drive like this ? :

Go to the Settings menu from your PS4 home screen.
Scroll down to the Devices menu.
Choose ‘USB Storage Devices’.
Select your external HDD, then choose “Format as extended storage”.

My point is, if you only formatted it through windows or it came preformatted it won't function with the PS4 games as intended. Just want to make sure you did everything right up to this point.

@Zeke68 Hi,

The external drive does in fact say 'Application Install Location', which is why I was confused, as since my first download with the Hard Drive plugged in it has always been the main location. And yes, I formatted the drive correctly as I remember it not showing when I first plugged it in and learning I had to format the drive.

In any case, I think for the time being I may just have to move games to my External Hard Drive if I wish to download any more games at the moment.
