Topic: GTA V Problem

So I decided for laughs to play some GTA V. I haven't had it installed in my PS4 since I added the external hard drive. Long story short I put the disc in and I get the loading screen with the pictures from GTA V music is playing fine but it's stuck on installing 4%.

I checked Google and have done the following

Cleaned the disc
Stopped the application and restarted it.
Turned off my PS4 and restarted.

And it still is stuck on 4%. I remember it doing this back in the day but honestly they should have had this fixed by now. So any suggestions?

I have read online some people say rebuild the database of the PS4, I have no idea what they are talking about let alone want to do that for this one game every other game I own installs just fine.

So what am I missing?

Rebuild database is safe, it will only mess up the order of your icons in your main menu...

If your disc is clean and without serious scratch, this may be the only solution.
GTA 5 install file is huge and its patch too so I'd just delete the temporary installation file, go offline and install the disc only, then go online to add the updates.

Praise the Sun, and Mario too.

Not only is rebuilding your database safe, but it might also speed up the system software in general (even PS4 boot times can improve significantly). Basically it just checks for errors in your data.

Rebuild database should fix this problem indeed. I think I had that too by the way.

Really don't like the idea of rebuilding the database. Just don't want anything to go wrong.

@Tasuki I was hesitant to do it also, but it is fine. There are tons of articles and YouTube videos out there recommending it. I’ve only done I once and I really need to do it again, it’s just that every time I sit down with my PS4 I want to play, not run a rebuild for an hour. 😅
But yeah, I recommend look up on YouTube a couple videos and watch people do it on their PS4 and you’ll probably be more comfortable with the process and realize it’s not going to brick your system or lose content. Then, before you know it, you’ll be stealing cars and wreaking havoc in GTA V in no time at all!
I am curious if you do decide to do a rebuild if it takes care of your GTA loading problem. I have a hunch it will.

@Tasuki I was hesitant to do it as well and I think the system said it might take a couple of hours to do.

Two minutes later and I was using the console again no problem.

Update

So I reformated the drive deleted GTA V took my PS4 offline and then it got up to 25% installed then a message popped up saying that there is a problem with the disc like it's dirty or damaged which it isn't. Well then I tried to eject the disc and for awhile it wouldn't eject it literally got stuck in my PS4. Now before you start saying maybe it's the drive it isn't every other game works fine ejects fine etc.

So yeah now I am afraid of putting that disc on my PS4 so I guess tomorrow I will take it into GameStop and trade it in. Guess I will just wait for GTA V to be on sale on the PSN store or something.

@Tasuki It appears the Universe does not want you to play GTA V.

😯....Or wait.... I just now realized why GTA V keeps selling in the top 10 every week. The discs spontaneously become corrupt over time, necessitating the purchase of another copy. It all makes sense now — There’s not 100 million people who play GTA V, there’s probably about 25 million who just have had to keep buying new copies when theirs goes kaput. The real secret to Rockstar’s success = degradable game discs.

@Tasuki Wow, that's really annoying.

I guess at least we now know what it is, and that there is nothing wrong with your console. But that's not really much of a silver lining.

@Tasuki Have you been putting jam on your discs as well as your controllers?

It is probably not in N.A., but in the UK GTA V is currently £15 until the 10th of October on the PS store.
