Hi I apologise, I know this question has been asked a lot but I still cannoy wrap my head around the answers and console sharing.
I have just purchased a new ps5 pro. I currently own a ps5 with ps plus and another account for my wife with no ps plus.
I want to set up the new ps5 pro for myself, and allow my wife to continue to use the base ps5 and continue to use all the games we have purchased on my account. how do i set up the new ps5 pro to allow this? and will we be able to play the same game together?
I think if you leave the old ps5 as your 'primary console', then that can still be used as you currently use it to play on both accounts and share your games on that consoles accounts.
Then on the new PS5 pro you can just log in to your main account and you will have access to all your PSN stuff on that anyway.
@jj91 Like @Ravix said, whichever console you set up as primary will permit all users on it to access your library. The verbiage on the settings is now “Allow console sharing”, and they don’t actually use the “primary console” moniker in the settings. I think it’s clearer this way, because it does explain better what it means. But yeah, when you set up your Pro, you should be prompted to choose during the set up as to whether you want to “enable console sharing” on it (which you’ll want to decline and leave the console sharing on the original PS5 for her). If it doesn’t prompt you then it’s in the settings menu under “users and accounts”. When I set up my Pro I chose to port data from the old PS5 to the Pro, so if you chose not to do the direct data transfer, then it may not ask about console sharing during your set up, I don’t know.
Either way, it will explain to you during the process that doing so will automatically disable the console sharing feature on your other PS5, as only one console can share your content with the other accounts at a time. But it can be swapped back and forth at any time, so if you decide you want to let her play one of your games on your Pro later then you can enable the console sharing on it and then re-enable it back on the other PS5 later.
But yes, I’m not sure but I think that if you enable console sharing on your old PS5 and she logs into her account to play a game and you’re logged into your account on your Pro, you both can play the same game at the same time. I’m not sure about the playing online part with the PS+ requirement though. If she doesn’t have PS+ I don’t know if she can play online with you, but I think that the console sharing also share the PS+ benefits with the other accounts.
Having just gone through this process with my new Pro, it’s actually quite well organized by Sony and it’s been smoother than I thought it would be. I don’t have another gamer in the house, but I was popping back and forth between consoles playing the same game and with cloud saving it was rather immediate that I could log off one console and pick my game back up from the save on the other console without a hitch.
