Platinum Trophy #7: Burnout Paradise Remastered
Date Earned: 2nd April 2018
Dopamine Index:
Burnout Paradise launched all the way back in 2008, and it remains my favourite open world racing game to this day.
Anyone who knows me will be familiar with my love for this series, and while I prefer the stage-based approach of the older titles, Burnout Paradise Remastered serves as surviving evidence that Criterion Games was operating on another level 20 years ago.
The remaster itself is fine, but even if it was a simple port job, I'd still love it — more so than the myriad modern options available to me.
I've got nothing against the likes of The Crew Motorfest or Forza Horizon 5; I enjoyed them quite a bit, actually. The thing is, Burnout Paradise was so ahead of its time that its online features still feel like they outpace games released now.
The game begins in its offline state, loading you into Paradise City to wreak havoc on your own terms, but a simple press of the d-pad activates online play and seamlessly slots you into a lobby. It's practically instant; it felt like magic in 2008, and it's still impressive in 2026.
But it isn't just the online features that make it my favourite open world arcade racer. The driving is, if you ask me, first rate; drifting is delicious, steering is responsive, the handling changes subtly depending on your vehicle, and the sense of speed is unmatched.
Paradise City itself is small by modern open world standards, but it's so tightly designed. I can navigate it in my head. There are many memorable landmarks and distinct areas, and the whole map is dense with events to complete, shortcuts to find, and billboards to smash.
It's brilliant. The cars are brilliant, the racing is brilliant, the crashes are brilliant, the soundtrack, the way you start events by spinning your wheels at the traffic lights, auto-repairs at petrol stations, DJ Atomika chiming in with some nonsense — it's all brilliant.
This series of features is about Trophies; I barely gave them a passing thought as I played through Burnout Paradise Remastered.
Looking through the list now, it's not a particularly difficult set, perhaps save for one that asks you to meet up with seven other players in a specific location. That's one that'll only become more difficult with time.
Other than that, though, this was probably my most effortless platinum so far. Just a sheer pleasure. It always makes things easier when it's a game you love this much.
Cheers, Burnout Paradise Remastered.

Now this one I really enjoyed! Great platinum to have Stephen. So much to do and such an enjoyable experience they absolutely nailed it with paradise 👌🏻. Used to love the use of eye toy on the PS3
Such a fun plat. Didn't we all have to meet up in the baseball field for that online trophy?
Did the mp trophies with the boys around a year ago and had a good laugh. Looking forward to returning to it to finish off the plat.
Fantastic game I got the platinum for both PS3 & PS4 versions with only the PS3 one being an 100% platinum. I was never able to get 7 players to go to the stadium for the remaster so mine is stuck forever at 99% 😮💨
I got the platinum on ps3 and ps4. As well as the 1000gs on xbox haha.
Best arcade racer ever made.
I've said this before, but while I do miss this game a little, it pales so much in comparison to Burnout 3 and Revenge (IMO, of course). The dopamine hit from drifting at like 90+ mph around a corner and then precisely slamming an opponent into the guard rail for a takedown hits so good in those games. Paradise leaned into the open world elements and because of that, most of the roads were super wide and the AI (or real opponents) could take any route they wanted. Takedowns took a huge step down as the game leaned into just general racer ideas.
So again, I have some nostalgia for this game, it was one of the first big PS3 games I gave a lot of my time to, but it doesn't do it like Burnout 3/Revenge do.
Burnout Paradise remains one of my favorite games just to drive around and crash and stuff like that.
Recently, I made a video using some clips from Burnout Paradise set to the motorcycle music from FFVII Remake. It's for fun, not for any ulterior motive, just thought they went well for some reason.

Yeah this was a fun platinum. There was one trophy for discovering all the car parks in Paradise City, that took me ages. I couldn't figure out which one I hadn't found, so I ended up driving round all the car parks constantly, like some sort of dogging enthusiast
Respect, this one's a grind to get, albeit a top game to play. Loved the original on PS3!
Platted it twice for PS3 and PS4 remaster one of my fave driving games, wish they would remaster Burnout Revenge
On PS3 the only trophy I needed for ages was 8 people meet in the Wildcats baseball stadium online omg that was a bugger to get
Burnout 3 Takedown is my favourite of the series, but this is a super fun platinum to have!
Going Platinum is a cool series and a neat diversion for the site. I like the personal accounts of these snapshot moments from your gaming history.
The original and the remastered
Yes! I never got round to the platinum but this was such a fun game. I’d play a remake for sure.
I’ve never played a Forza Horizon game, how do they compare?
@MB81 Forza Horizon is massively overrated IMO. It feels like you're turning a boat, not playing an arcade racer.
It's the antithesis of the Burnout series in terms of handling.
Amazing game!
@MrPeanutbutterz yeah and also horizon is a bit boring whereas this is just next level fun. crashing was fun the music is great the graphics are great the gameplay is outstanding and the online is seamless. Like an early commenter said one of the best if not THE best arcade racer ever made. Might have to get it downloaded once again but that wildcats trophy lol. PSNProfiles boost thread here i come
It is always sad to see stupid online trophies in list, so I automatically stop trying for platinum.
@Gremio108 I hate it when that’s the last kind of trophy you need. Haha.
It’s happened to me multiple times. Need For Speed Most Wanted on PS3 was another with the fences. Ended up being one I was 100% sure I had already got.
Star Wars Jedi Survivor more recently too. Back track, back track, back track… oh that was it. Hah.
Whoa, I didn’t realize how much they dumbed down and babied the PS list compared to Xbox. That’s wild, your explanation on it being simple makes more sense now. Totally different on Xbox, you gotta do way, way more and a minimum of 250 separate Online Challenges. People worried about meeting up with 8 people for a one off at a stadium is end of the world, yall have no idea. 😅
