Tekken 8 PS5 PlayStation

In response to the high volume of requests for its inclusion, Tekken 8 director Katsuhiro Harada has made perhaps the inadvisable decision to ask fans why they want a Waffle House level added to the game. For the uninitiated or the international, Waffle House is an American restaurant chain, with most of the company's 1,900 US stores located in the midwest and south of the country.

IGN spotted the interaction when the storied director solicited feedback from his 300,000 followers, asking: "Ok, I will only ask once about this request. Why do some communities send me requests for "Waffle House"? Please explain the basis for the request, including the original story, history and background."

Fans of both fighting games and good food made fast quickly responded, explaining that, culturally, Waffle House is a favourite place for Americans to engage in fisticuffs. Being open all night, the chain has become somewhat infamous as a place where physical altercations allegedly regularly occur.

Emerging from beneath a barrage of memes and clips of public waffle-induced violence, Harada thanked fans for explaining Waffle House's unique position in American society. Sadly, as the adult in the room, Harada had to clarify that trademarks and rights issues would probably prevent the fast-food chain from appearing meaningfully in the Tekken series, but we suppose anything is possible.
