Sony may have revised its PS5 sales estimate for the current financial year, which will end on 31st March. But unsurprisingly it still wants to sell as many systems as possible, which means it’s going to make one last push for that all-important 21 million units target it’s been eyeing. And how does it intend to do that? One last round of price promotions.
In Spain, for example, the console is already €75 (~$81) off at retailers like Amazon, and similar offers are expected to launch in France around 18th March. Meanwhile, in Germany, it’s expected that GameStop will slash the price of the console to €479.99 (~$522) and toss in a free copy of new release Alone in the Dark for good measure.

While Sony has been registering record revenue, its operating profits have become wafer thin, and one of the issues it’s facing is successfully reducing the manufacturing costs of its consoles. It means full-scale price drops like in previous generations are becoming less common, which historically is how hardware like the PS1 and PS2 unlocked new target markets.

Expecting GTA6 to be an enormous shot in the arm for consoles. PS5 in particular will do very well off the back of it. And once that console is in your home chances are you’ll buy other games 👍
well, i did buy ps 5 full price, and after 3 and half years i dont have access to mine ps sub and games that i bought apart from ps+....so be carefull with that prices....
It seems to have been discounted to €480 or €475 for the majority of eurozone countries (France, Spain, Belgium, Greece, Germany). They did something similar last month and some months before to "remove" the stock of the OG model.
In any case €475 is a "good" price for what you get.
Sometimes I wish I didn't have a PS5 so I could take advantage of these offers and enjoy that New console excitement again
Is it really that much of a discount when you consider Sony increased the base price in EU/UK?
I guess it's great marketing: raise the price and then when the price goes back to original MSRP, it's consider a "sale".
You can buy a PS5 for £390. Meanwhile PSVR2 is £530.
And some people wonder why PSVR2 is a catastrophic failure.
Sony has to do full scale price drop so that it makes a room for PS5 Pro. Otherwise the new Pro console will be retailing at $600-700.
I bought one in the last sale and honestly I have barely touched it. I prefer the experience on my ps4 pro, the controller is nicer, the console is quiter and the party chat is better quality. There are no games on ps5 I want to play and the few ps4 games that play better on there I'm putting off playing for games that play just fine on ps4.
Biggest mistake I made this year is buying a ps5, it offers nothing unless you just have to play the flashiest, most graphically intense games. Those aren't my jam.
I should sell it tbh.
@TrickyDicky99 It would have helped if they, you know, actually distributed it to retail for sale rather than direct to customer sales only. As it is, even the Virtual Boy was more widely distributed, even though it ultimately sold less units. Nothing says "we want to kill this product" quite like not actually sending it to distributors.
@GamingFan4Lyf Yes, it's actually a £30 discount (unless you live in Playstation's new home country, the USA, of course, which had no price rise whatsoever...)

If you can even hear it you should pretty much ask for a replacement to be honest. Unless you got the new model and Sony F'd up on that one, if so, I have no experience of that model at all.

They've still brutalized the poor platform Vita-style, but at least they did distribute it after all.
@Zeke68 it is the slim, I've heard the original model is quieter. The slim has a terrible fan hum whatever game I play on it. Even Arcade Archive games get the fan going, my pro is silent by comparison.
Fortunately my pro is very quiet, but I don't play really intense games. Most graphically intense game i played on ps4 the regular is rocket league lol.
So not trolling but definitely not a usual case I admit.

Most of the deals I have seen are bundles at base price.
These ‘flash’ sales really p**s me off…….. if they can sell it at a lower price then why dont they permanantely? Joe bloggs who bought one last month getting a right kick in the teeth

@BlaizeV Fair enough. If it's like the O.G PS5, you can remove the sidepanel and check if they have something that interfer with the fanblades, no need for screwdrivers or so.
My PS5 was of that batch were a sticker was on the cable to the fan and it got caught in the fan and made hell of a sound LOL. I just removed it and the PS5 have been silent since then.
I learned it through a Youtubevideo so you could search on "PS5 fan noise" on YT. Hopefully you find some easy fix for it.
Too little too late.... Why couldn't Sony discount the Disc Slim model as they always had with prior PlayStation systems?

I will sell my PS5 and color plates (Black) in a few more months and use that money to get the PS5 Pro. At least i don’t have to buy both an Xbox and PS mid gen fresh this time. Not that i wouldn’t but with it only being a PS5 Pro that saves me some coin for more games.
@BlaizeV Demon Souls, Rachet ans and Clank, Returnal made it worth it for me alone. The silence of the console, loading speed and the best way to play games that are on PS4 with some awesome PS5 games.
@HonestHick I'm like you in that I've bought the vast majority of consoles day one (including random ones like jaguar & cdi) since the nes but the ps5 pro is the first time I have no interest at all. I was happy with the ps4 pro because it bridged the gap to 4k but this is going to be higher framerates and nicer ray tracing. The ps5 has barely hit its stride yet and considering the adoption rate of the ps4 pro I'm surprised sony are willing to invest the huge r&d plus productions costs when they're crying poverty over their bottom line..
Im.reading it as a final push in sales before they forcus on the PRO model XD

@Deljo well the Pro will give players with the budget and interest in performance a system that will hit locked 60 and more ray tracing and that is exciting to me. But yeah we haven’t seen many next gen games. But when we do the question is do we want to play them at 30 or 60 fps? Plus this gives Sony great marketing opportunities with GTA6 which will for sure be the biggest game release of all time. I look forward to the pro and really wish the Xbox was doing one as well. But as the internet goes most people won’t buy the Pro but will make fun of Xbox for not having one.

Perhaps in Europe, but not in the US where I live... besides the price cut should be permanent which is perhaps the reason why Sony hasn't been able to meet sales numbers with the PS5.
The game biz is in such a weird place lately. Not good.
What many companies are trying to do isn't what customers want.
Like WB announcing more online clones after Suicide Squad flopped.
Or Rockstar only making one game every 10 years...
Also, I don't think people want a more expensive PS5 Pro.
@Zeke68 @Flaming_Kaiser This isn't a necessary comment but given people so often type things they don't follow through on I thought I would update to say that I did sell the ps5. I'll probably come back to it in the future but for now I knew I didn't need it.
