Like a Dragon: Gaiden Won't Have an English Dub on PS5, PS4 At Launch

Obviously the game isn't ready to launch. I know some people will say it's blasphemy to play these games with the English dub, but it's still pretty bad to release a game without it's English dub. It's different with lower budget JRPGs that are localized that don't come with one at all, but this is not that.

I always play these in japanese but this is some bs. They should delay the game and get it in.

The English dubs are usually good in these games and it’s now how I play them. Oh well, plenty to keep me busy until it releases.

This, plus the lack of a physical release, really makes this seem underbaked by Sega. Don’t expect much

This doesn’t bother me much but I 100% understand why it would to a lot of people. For me though, I only play Yakuza games in Japanese with English subtitles. Probably my only non-English voiced franchise. Still, it sucks people who want to hear it in English can’t do so right away

No dub or physical release is going to hit the early sales on this one.

Of all the things to not have in the base release, this is the right one. Dub, lol.

Only the fans will buy the game at launch and they don't play with english dubs in any case, so not delaying just for that is a smart choice.

Have my physical copy pre-ordered from Japan. Shame the dub isn't there from the start. I've played all Yakuza games on the ps3 and ps4 with subs and then judgment
and lad7 with dubs and I found the transition very seamless.
Fully support Yong and his work and might put this on the back burner until it releases.
Nevertheless, some never let up the chance to state their Sub fandom superiority, so silly.

To be honest there's no need, personally I don't like to play JRPGs with english dub sounds really fake.

Yakuza is now a mainstream franchise. No english dub at launch will hurt sales although I highly recommend playing it in Japanese.

I think this game has a lot of important things about the story related to the next Like a Dragon, so SEGA thought it would be better to do this release this way, incomplete, so that people don't end up without understanding certain things in the next game.
Maybe they didn't have time to dub both games at the same time, and since their idea is to release the next games at the same time around the world, they had to do it that way with Gaiden.
But yeah, I agree, they could have planned all of this better.

@Powerplay94 indeed they have, I'm not buying this day one anyways and I'm in no rush to play it quite yet soon with what I'm playing with currently, Oct/November is quite busy for games now

I really don't care about English dub in this case, Yakuza/LAD must be played with japanese voices, IMO.

I would have brought this but it seems like a budget release so I will play on game pass when the dub is out. Luckilly there is Spiderman 2 and the rather large Tales of Arise DLC to get into and I also plan on getting Robocop to keep me busy for the rest of 2023.

For me English dub is just a personally preference as I would rather focus and the characters than reading story plots. English dub is also important for those with visual impairments that can't read the subs but want to enjoy the game.

No worries. I always play these in Japanese.
Will make sure not to update, since using the voice of someone with terrible delivery was a bad idea anyway.

I play the games in Japanese anyway. Hearing English coming from these characters doesn't sound right after having played the entire series in Japanese as the only option.

That said, I will probably wait for a sale for this. I still haven't finished 7 (not gelling with the combat), so probably wouldn't be getting 8 at launch anyway, and there is no physical version (in the West without importing), so it is low down on my priority list, even if I am very interested in the story.

That is unfortunate for those who prefer the dub. Nonetheless I have my Playasia copy on pre-order and I'm extremely excited to play this! It is truly looking like a good time.

It’s alright as in November only the hardcore fans will buy this and they will play it with Japanese dub like it is meant to be played 😜

These games need to be played in Japanese.

It really ups the immersion. Because the Yakuza games really try to give you a small splice of Japan. So hearing English is weird.

So it'll be made worse post-launch?
