It was never going to be as smooth and problem-free as Blizzard wanted it to be, was it? Diablo 4 is available to play now on PS5, PS4 via the four days of early access granted by the Ultimate Edition, and many users are encountering an error to do with license issues. This is preventing them from playing the game, but it may be a problem on Sony's end rather than something Blizzard can solve itself.
The developer is at least aware of the issue and is actively investigating, as community manager PezRadar writes: "We are seeing reports regarding PlayStation users experiencing Invalid License errors. The team is looking into this right now and will update once we have more information." PC and Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One players have been able to play since the game went live less than an hour ago, suggesting it may be a Sony flaw.
Early access to Diablo 4 is only available in the Ultimate Edition of the game, with the full launch coming on 6th June 2023. @Jey887 To be fair, this seems to (mostly) be a Sony issue with digital licensing (and it wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened).
Frustrating, especially since people paid for the early access.

Early access also comes with the deluxe edition btw and the error code states that server are not available... There's also a message on the starting screen now. Well have to work later, so let's check it out in the evening. Some sort of compensation should be given idd.

It’s not just Diablo - I can’t play anything on PlayStation right now because of license issues. I’m glad that I didn’t cave and buy the deluxe version of Diablo but I feel bad for those that did. Hope it gets fixed for you all soon.
I am having this same issue for the last hour. I saw that the license error might be solved by I is talking but it did not fix the issue. I was able to play for 5 minutes before it shut down on me.
@ChronoBreak777 Yep, this is true. Street Fighter 6 + Diablo 4 early access seems to have taken a toll on Sony's servers, which is just great!
Not the best solution but apparently if you buy add-on currency, it’ll validate the license and let you play. Cheapest is $2. Bunch of people on ResetERA have done it to get in.

I had this for about 10 minutes after the game went live but I got in on the third try.
Playing it now for over an hour.
Edit: After reading some of the other comments, I had quit the game and started downloading the Live A Live demo before my third attempt.
It never occurred to me that there would be a link.

@AFCC You can't test things like this. When you test on a platform you are put in a "sandbox" that the publisher leases from the platform owner, it puts you in an isolated QA/Dev environment. It is 100 percent Sony's fault, there is no way to test this in a retail environment in the sandbox, as retail QA testers only get access to the retail environment when...you know...the game is at retail. Then you can test for licensing issues once you've got access like everyone else.
So on Playstation for those waiting for a fix spend 2$ buy a pack and it fixes the issue just did it for my wife and it works
I’m on PST and haven’t been able to get in yet due to the same license issue. I’ve got a theory tho, but does it have to do with the pending charges? Since the charge is still pending on my account, Sony hasn’t actually received any payment yet. Do they only issue their licenses after the payment clears? 🤷♂️

@Lobokeokenashi @Splat There are reports saying if you download a game or demo — just anything — and then boot it up, it fixes the licensing issue. Nothing to do with microtransactions, fortunately.

I couldn't seem to finish restoring my licenses however turning off the internet on the PS5 and back on again seems to have solved the issue. However I did get a pop up stating it'll suspend the game in 15 minutes but I'm still playing!

I can confirm that you can fix the issue by purchasing in game currency via micotransaction through the Sony Store. The moment I bought the pack of coins for $2, I tried it again and it worked. So $89 not enough, eh blizzard? lol.

@MrLapin Sorry this didn't work for you. Just to note I never finished doing my licenses. But it's been about an hour since it gave me the message. Try disconnecting and reconnecting to your WiFi too. Maybe try checking for an update to. Or power cycle your console?
So, if you have PS+, you can also add/download a PS+ game to fix the issue. Just worked for me. Better than having to PAY them via IAP for their own issue!
Looks like the launch of diablo 4 broke Playstation because i can't play anything due to the licenses
@awp69 for everyone reading this it works. I'm on PS4 and been trying to log in since 6:00 with no luck. Until I went to the store and I bought the 1.99 package for the Platinum and then tried to login again. And it logged in with no issue. Wish I would have seen this 2 hours ago so I could have been online then
@Clown69 Yup fixed it for me(I just downloaded the sf6 demo) but it isn't a complete fix, there are a couple things like console sharing that can't be accessed due to issues on Sony's end.
Unfortunately buying the $1.99 pack did not fix the issue for me.
Buying MTX fixes it. Clearly a licensing issue but oh man, that is some incredibly funny optics.
For anyone still struggling with this. Just download a ps plus game from the ps store and reload diablo 4. It fixes the issue.
Lol rather than paying for early access, why not pay less for more complete games? I'll just wait for a discount 6 month later while playing my backlog games, I'm sure diablo 4 will be a better game by then
Unbelievable… you pay extra for early access and not only does it not work but you also have to pay for a micro transaction as a workaround to get licence issue fixed? Sony should offer a partial refund to those affected at the very least…

@wiiware it'll still have loads of microtransactions, digital currency and battle passes in 6 months time.
In fact, arguably, in 6 months time it'll be even more egregious as they start tightening the screws on the whales and figuring out ways to "turn players into payers".

@Exerion76 In the Deluxe you will be getting the Temptation Mount and Hellborn Carapace Mount Armor in Diablo 4, and the rewards from the Standard pre-order. On top of that, you will also be getting the first Diablo 4 Season Pass, and you will also get early access to the game.
In the Ultimate you get items from the Standard Edition as well as the Deluxe Edition, the Diablo 4 Ultimate Edition will give you a 20-tier skip on the Battle Pass as well as the “Wings of the Creator” emote in Diablo 4.

Yes, it is a Sony issue... I don't own a copy of D4 and I will when it goes down to $15, but I was having license problems with Miasma Chronicles yesterday. I've tried all the fixes and didn't work until today
Working Fine on my Series X, but sorry to hear this is a PS issue. The game is incredible, course i am bias as i am a complete hardcore fan of the Diablo series. It’s a top 3 all time game franchise for me. So i was hopeful to see everyone enjoying it. But yes my friends are all on PC or Xbox and none of us are having any licensing issues. So Sony has to give ABK some help in getting this sorted.
@FatalBubbles No game sharing, well that’s gonna change my weekend plans… did you see something official about this? I just tried and I got invalid license but I’m not sure if that’s the login glitch from earlier today or if it means I can only gameshare from Tuesday??
@Breekhead Windows central posted about it. No one I know who game shares has been able to play unless they bought it. My friend I share with can play just fine.
I don’t know about the standard release time, I sure it works for me then….
@FatalBubbles Might have found a workaround on Reddit. Looks like you have to sign in as console 1 user, join as console 2 (couch co op), promote console 2 to party leader, console 1 signs out and leaves, now console 1 can sign in as normal and join up.
Hopefully this works, I’ll try it later.
@Breekhead I might try it here at lunch, incredibly annoying they Blizzard did this. First the Sony license issues and now this. What a bad launch.
@Breekhead This method does allow you to play. Every time you want to play you’ll have to go through the same process though.
Additionally, and maybe it’s irrelevant to you, I don’t think you’ll earn trophies for yourself playing in this manner. The trophy tracker still shows 0% for me on everything after having played a bit.

People who are using console sharing have and will have this problem until launch. The thing is only the account the game was bought on can access the game earlier. Any other account, even though your PS5 is set as primary on the game-owning account, is prohibited from playing until official launch. Also i wouldn’t count on tier skips, emotes etc. from deluxe or ultimate editions as well.

@Flaming_Kaiser nah it was honestly fixed SO fast and seems to actually be a Sony issue, a friend of mine couldn't play ANY game for almost an hour due to that error. So 🤷♂️ sh** happens.
@Xonic No fix here. I've been stuck queuing to get in all day and it has nothing to do with the licensing error. You can't sell early access and then turn around and say we can't deliver on it.
I mean, weekends are known to be the busiest time. Are you not just in a queue with x amount of time remaining? I'll give you I had a 15 min timer to login which I guess is inconvenient but if that's the most inconvenient thing to happen to someone today I think that's a win 😝
@Xonic If Sony takes money for a early release then it should work. I believe nobody should pay extra for a early release anyway but if you sell it it should work.
I mean.. But it is working, I'm literally playing now and have been for hours. It didn't off the hop but it was fixed faster then basically any other server issue I've ever seen. Same evening fixes don't come often lol
That being said it was acti-blizz that did all the server testing and on there end everything seems to be pretty stable. Or at least as stable as any sensible person could expect. So 🤷♂️
And this is why patience is a virtue.
@Breekhead Hope you got to play some. You do gee trophies, the tracker percent just doesn’t work apparently.
Only annoying thing about that workaround is that you have to start at the beginning with the new character. Oh well. Only one day left to wait.
