It's seemingly all hands on deck over at Guerrilla Games as the Dutch studio attempts to wrap up development on Horizon Forbidden West from home. The team has confirmed in a new blog post that patches and updates for the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn will be less frequent henceforth to ensure the big-budget sequel is ready for its eventual launch on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. That's currently scheduled to take place at some point this year.
The post reads: "As our team continues development on our upcoming title Horizon Forbidden West, we are shifting to less frequent updates for Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for PC after this patch. Please note that we will continue to monitor our community spaces as always!" This follows in the aftermath of numerous PC patches that brought the port up to snuff. With it now in a fit state, Guerrilla Games' attention turns to Horizon Forbidden West. Although, it probably always was the priority — this simply means even more employees can now commit their time to development and polishing. We're not entirely convinced the game will hit its 2021 release window, but it looks like the developer is trying its hardest to ensure it happens.

Not really sure why Sony don’t just revive an old studio like Cambridge to work on these ports. Especially seeing as they were Guerrilla Cambridge before they went.
I really wish this game was a PS5 exclusive. Crossgen games never properly use the new and improved hardware and controls.
@Rhaoulos This is Guerrilla - a console-first Dev not CDPR - a PC-first Dev. It'd surely run fine on both consoles and the PS5's would have all the extra icing and take all the advantage, don't fret.
I though horizon fw is a ps5 exclusive at first, but I guess sony don't want to sell the game to a new machine that's still hard to find.
The pc port is a failed experiment I think, it's just didn't sell as much as it's ps4 counterpart, and it just make more people wait for pc port rather than go to sony ecosystem for their exclusive games.
@wiiware It sold almost as much as The Witcher 3 did on its debut on Steam and beat Death Stranding’s PC figures. It’s hardly a failed experiment.
Wished they actually did a PS5 patch for Zero Dawn
I hope zero dawn ps5 60 fps patch
@TheArt Taking full advantage of the PS5 here would not just mean the visuals department but also making use of the much more powerful CPU and the much touted custom SSD, and that would require much more fundamental innovations in the sequel in areas like hard programming e.g. AI, as well as gameplay features that require entire game worlds being loaded on the fly. If the game is crossgen then the latter won't be possible - imagine Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart's rift portals being replaced by loading screens, that would ruin the whole experience.
@nessisonett The keyword is on it's debut, witcher 3 sell and sell more but I don't see horizon on steam chart again.
@AdamNovice It will be included in the £70 ultimate edition of forbidden west
Started it tonight on PC. Locked 1440p 120fps ultimate quality (although I turned motion blur off, you can keep that to consoles), so far I'm not impressed by the game itself overall. I'll give it another few hours but if it doesn't improve greatly, I'll likely drop it.
I’m really excited for this game. The potential is huge. My experience with HZD was a yin and yang of greatness and utter mediocrity.
The world building and backstory was brilliant, but largely told in a clunky way. The combat with machines is some of the best I’ve seen in an open worlder, but human battles...were not. The world was huge and detailed but traversing it was run of the mill and rewards for exploring it were not enticing. The narrative was captivating but the characters were uninteresting.
To me, this is Guerilla’s most important game as what they accomplished with their first open world effort was astounding but if they rest on their laurels, I’m afraid the lightning will be out of the bottle, and I really like this universe.
@wiiware Well that's a consequence of it not only being a significantly older title that came out years after its original release, but it's also a pretty unorthodox move for Sony considering they've never done anything of that scope before
Everyone who desperately wanted to play Horizon probably got PS4s to do so with the knowledge that it's a first party game. No one was actually expecting them to port it to Steam, and I doubt Sony themselves entertained such an idea for a while
But it's also practically free advertisment for the PlayStation brand to the PC audience and will probably help a little bit in getting more people to pick up PS5s in the long run with the knowledge that a sequel is one of the console's launch window exclusives, and Sony is definitely not going to be as lenient on PC porting as Microsoft is considering dedicated hardware is of way more importance to them and Nintendo compared to Microsoft
Dad of boy of the forbbiden west delayed to 2023
@LiterallyDoNotCare but don't worry. Elden Ring is coming
@SweetSummerShunv I know the thing about the CPU and AI. Thing is, HZD's AI is already insane! Guerrilla is experienced and I think they already have the level of AI they want working on base PS4. If RDRII is possible on base PS4, I trust HFW to work with no significant compromises. Who knew 60fps Skyrim was possible on PS by some KB sized mod. We don't always have to believe that marketing rhetoric that some things aren't possible on old hardware so get the new one.
@wiiware It’s a port of a game several years old that’s been out for about 5 months. It sold over 700k copies on release despite being an old port and the fact loads of players will have already bought the game on PS4, selling more than Assassin’s Creed Odyssey did on release. That’s a major win for Sony given that Ubisoft games do extremely well. Judging games’ success based on longevity in Steam charts is utterly laughable, as it’s primarily GTA V and hentai games nowadays, with the odd craze like Among Us or Fall Guys making up the numbers.
@nessisonett Which means apparently jackshit as HZD sits at number 94 in Steam top 100 best selling video games 2020.
Even games like Avengers, Fallout 76, Farming Simulator and a Yu-Gi-Oh game outsold HZD.
No matter how much Sony lies to impress investors for getting more money, cash, dough, HZD bombed on PC and been waste of effort.
Hell if Guerrilla Games wouldn't have focused on the PC version, they'd probably have been done with Forbidden West for PS5/PS4.
If they want to port games, they should hire external dev studios instead wasting internal first party ones for that kind of waste.
@JAMes-BroWWWn It came out in August you absolute clown. It’s a port of a game which came out in 2017 which nobody was waiting for a PC port for. And also only had 4 months to sell. Games like Cyberpunk and Avengers were announced far earlier in advance and have more of a wide appeal and are new games on release. Why does it make a difference to you if the game comes out on PC three years after release? It’s not as if Sony are taking some massive hit and you’ll suddenly be left with no PlayStation - if anything they can use the extra funding towards the Horizon sequel.
@nessisonett Don't waste your time with the fanboys and their arguments. Their logic is "it only made Sony an additional (approx) $30million in 6 months to port an existing game to PC, FAILED!!!!"
@nessisonett what kind of damage control is that? It came out in August is actually a argument for selling better as no other games usually come out in the Summer period. Plus HZD is considered one of the best games of The PS4 yet completely failed on PC on all regards.
700k in its launch month with no competition and fully advertised on Steam, one of the biggest storefronts in the world. It didn't even launch with a full price and still couldn't beat flops like Fallout 76, Avengers and a goddamn Yu-Gi-Oh game.
And the announcement date has literally no meaning of the success of a game just another bad excuse to defend Sony pointless idea to let an internal studio work for a port of a different platform instead handing it over to an external studio.
And claiming the port was "funding" anything is an absolute joke. If the devs had been working for Forbidden West, they would have made 100 times the revenue already then whatever they did with that train wreck of a port. You ***** got the nerves to call me clown. Foh.
@TheArt Actually the AI goes beyond the examples you've mentioned. Furthermore the CPU on the PS5 can be used to say power large scale battles between tribes and machines etc, something that would completely melt the PS4, hence adding a tactical/strategic dimension to the game. You can even go one step further by actually having procedurally generated machines, hence making HEPHAESTUS a living in-game AI, and this won't be possible on the PS4 either. I want the game to take the one extra step of being a generation/era-defining game by doing groundbreaking innovations as opposed to being a 'mere' GOTY contender. This isn't even about selling new consoles at this stage, but this is about raising the baseline. Essentially my point is that if you can only downport a game to the previous generation by gimping visuals alone, then you aren't making a game that's taking full advantage of the new hardware. Also, old consoles will still have their place for some time to come and they still have huge libraries for newcomers to enjoy.
@JAMes-BroWWWn It was £40 on launch. If you just take the launch sales then that’s £28.64 million. It’s sold plenty since then. Let’s take the Yu-Gi-Oh game. Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links is free to play. If that sold, say, 1 million copies then that would be a grand total of £0.00. On Steam, games sell more if they’re cheaper. £40 games don’t sell as many copies. But guess what? If a game sells a million copies that costs £40 then that’s £40 million. If a game costs £10 then it would need to sell 4 million copies just to make the same revenue. It is in no way a flop and given that literally every single major publication has talked about the success of Horizon’s PC port then yes, you are indeed a clown.
@nessisonett well done dodging my argument. Hope Sony pays you properly for damage controlling their failure. Lol even Grounded outsold that failure of a port. Which is an early access game with a price tag of 30 bucks and came out only 2 weeks before HZD and "no big announcement" either and much less content. Forbidden West would have sold millions in the first 3 days and not only that 700k in a month you walking embarrassment.
@nessisonett @JAMes-BroWWWn I used to go to Subway every day and order the same chicken sandwitch. I miss those days.
It is not that expensive as others say. Cost me about $7 but it's the foot long.
@JAMes-BroWWWn Grounded didn’t outsell it. I’d love to see your evidence as the main Steam sales trackers’ estimations are saying that Grounded has sold roughly a million less copies than Horizon on Steam. That list of Steam’s top 100 selling games also isn’t in order, just ranked into groups based on their performance. Funnily enough, I can’t see any other ports of 3 year old games which came out in Summer 2020 which broke the top 100 at all.
@nessisonett Steam top 100 chart sales is in oder of performance. Now go figure what performance means btw it is money, money, money. The one argument you tried to claim wAs So BiG for HZD. LOL
and btw talking about an old port not being successful yet Persona 4 completely erased HZD. But go on.
Lol btw even TemTem outsold it. "NoT a FaIlUrE".
@JAMes-BroWWWn You’re talking falsehoods now. The Steam top 100 charts isn’t in complete order of performance as if you go onto the official Steam page at different times then the order of games changes. It’s just sorted into Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. There is no sorting within those brackets. TemTem is also estimated to have sold less than Horizon, look up every single Steam tracking site and they’ll confirm it. So a game that did outsell Horizon would be in the Silver, Gold or Platinum sections. Try again.
@nessisonett Dude stop now you're trying to bring up estimates. Lol.
HZD bombed accept it and move on.
But you amazingly dodged that fact a 12 year old port outsold Sony's biggest effort to get into Steam with one of their biggest titles. Big oof and extra yikes
@JAMes-BroWWWn There are no official sales figures for Steam therefore all analysts use estimations. Horizon’s estimations are also higher than Persona 4 Golden, which isn’t a 12 year port but an 8 year port as it was the PS Vita version which was ported. Also, Persona is one of the hottest franchises in the business right now and many gamers had only played 5 while 4 was stuck on Vita, meaning there were a larger proportion of gamers that didn’t already own Persona 4 Golden compared to Horizon Zero Dawn and a ready-made audience. And by all estimations it hasn’t outsold Horizon. You’re the one dodging here as you’ve just completely ignored the fact that Persona 4 Golden is in the Bronze category alongside Horizon Zero Dawn meaning that we have no way of knowing that it outsold Horizon without using analysts’ estimations.
@TheFrenchiestFry Selling the first ps4 games on pc while hyping up the sequels on ps5 seems a good strategy, but there's possibility that people just wait for a port rather than buy playstation console. With nintendo people 100% sure mario, zelda, and others nintendo 1st party ip will be exclusive to their system. System seller exist for a reason, but I guess sony want to try this new strategy.
@nessisonett Ac odyssey pc sells way more than horizon pc, you can't just count the debut number, the total sales is more important. What games sell on pc is different than console, for example, I think Dream will sell way more on pc rather than on ps4.
@wiiware Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has sold way more because it came out almost 2 years before Horizon and has seen multiple Steam sales in that period of time. Horizon made almost £30 million in its first month on Steam. Give it time.
@nessisonett HZD flopped. It dropped out the top 10 in its second week and out of the 50 in its third. No damage control can change that. A JRPG, a niche genre itself, outselling, a commercial game such as HZD is the absolute evidence of complete failure. Stop crying about it.
Plus Temtem outsold HZD. Lol
@nessisonett AC Odyssey outsold HZD too in AC Odysseys THIRD year lol. You do know that chart represents one year that's why it's called top selling games 2020. Just more proof of the failure HZD was. Waste of dev power. I could have playes Forbidden West already, if these people who pay you to damage control their failures, would've hired an external studio to do that waste of port.
@JAMes-BroWWWn Let’s see your evidence that Temtem outsold Horizon on Steam. Please share that information because I can’t find a single bit of information anywhere on the internet that corroborates that statement.
@nessisonett No response to the fact that HZD fell out of the top 50 in its second week. No mention of the fact that AC Odyssey, in its THIRD year, outsold HZD. No word that to any of that huh. You know what's funny too:
PubG outsold it which is in its THIRD year
Rainbow Six Siege outsold it which is in its 5th year
Monster Hunter World outsold it which is in its second year
Sea of Thieves outsold it which is in its THIRD year
Borderlands 3 outsold it which is in its second year
A friggin Halo Collection from 2014 outsold it
City Skyline outsold it which is in its THIRD year
A game called Planet Zoo outsold it lolololololol Planet ***** Zoo
Skyrim outsold it which is in its BILLIONTH year
That absolut train wreck of a flop that broke Square Enix back called Avengers outsold it. What does that tell
Far Cry 5 in its THIRD year outsold it
CoD Black Ops THREE outsold it which is in its FIFTH year
Man if Sony ain't giving you a big promotion after that damage control you're about to do... Smdh
@JapaneseSonic Yeap I mean it's the transition stage of all so it's fair to focus first on higher visuals first then work on something big and groundbreaking in the next sequel. I really want this franchise to reach GOAT status hence my desire to see gameplay features like those I proposed implemented. I'm sure Guerrilla will have other and even better ideas too.
@JAMes-BroWWWn I think you really don't understand how the PC gaming ecosystem is like. Our gaming tastes are extremely diverse and alot of us play more than just heavily marketed AAA games from the most popular genres, and the HZD sales figures are pretty good in this highly competitive and diverse ecosystem where saturation marketing does not give you an advantage. Instead of being bitter and salty about gamers in another ecosystem enjoying the same game, you should open up and celebrate this franchise making inroads into a highly competitive and demanding ecosystem's market. Conversely, many formerly skeptical PC gamers who dismissed this game as just another 'generic third person action adventure game' have now been completely won over by this game and have now openly celebrated it. Any genuine fan of this game should celebrate this outcome, instead of feeling being mistreated just because you aren't the only one being able to play this game anymore. Also for the sales charts, mind you that was the time when the PC port's technical issues were being reported on and that there was a price hike, and it affected its ensuing sales somewhat. It still picked up again afterwards.
Besides, I have played this game both on the PS4 Pro (I have bought a base PS4 beforehand too) and my PC, and Sony has gotten money from me twice, so it's only fair that they look after consumers like us as we've paid more. Many of us have PS4 consoles on the side and have played this game on the console beforehand, so I don't know what exactly is your problem.
Too bad that they had to waste so much time to fix the awful PC Port instead of patching the Game for PS5. Also its still dumb that this is a cross-gen Game. Spiderman MM sold like 70% of its copies on PS5 so its clearly time to move on from PS4
Hoping the PS4 version holds its own. If it's like Miles Morales, it'll still be a highly respectable version of the game.
HZD did pretty well on Steam, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a port of the sequel in a few years.
@Ralizah Its already compromised since they talked about that the fast SSD could handle flying Mounts and thats now impossible because of the PS4 Version
@JAMes-BroWWWn You’re failing to take into account that every single game you’ve mentioned has had a deep discount at some point over the last year, not just the last 4 months. Steam is very different from PlayStation and many people just don’t buy games full price, myself included. Planet Zoo is also a hugely successful and fantastic game, from the same devs as Planet Coaster which was warmly received here so I’m not sure why you’re making a big deal about it outselling Horizon when strategy/simulator games sell boatloads on Steam. Horizon has done well on Steam, literally every website, commentator and analyst says so which either means they’re all wrong or you’re spouting a load of bollocks. I know which I believe.
@nessisonett, @JAMes-BroWWWn I made £100k last year but my mate made £120k and spends all his time calling me a failure. Sure I had a great time last year but that doesn't count really does it. I bought myself a new Audi TT. Beautiful it was, until my mate bought 2 of them so now mine is rubbish. I'm so depressed now.
@IonMagus We don't even know if that was even planned for the sequel, do we?
I doubt the game is "compromised." It was probably initially planned as a PS4 title anyway,.
@nessisonett Most single player games sold big maybe 1-2 month after the launch, after that the games usually sold just in small amount.
@Ralizah I mean the Devs talked about how they couldnt include flying mounts in HZD bc it would be too much for the console and now they even showed of the new flying machine. Really dissapointed that Ryan went back on his "believe in Generations" talk
@nessisonett HZD failed on PC 700k in a month for a game like HZD is a failure. Plus HZD already had discounts on PC. Plus the charts is order by money revenue not by units. Horizon Zero Dawn on PC failed.
@StonyKL it depends could you have made 1 million bucks instead and deliver products for your current customers meanwhile and avoid them having a draught?, then yes. You failed.
@nessisonett HZD did well on Steam but I doubt they made the money you wrote. On Release Day you could already buy Keys on other sites for 37€ and atm for 6€. Also Steam takes 30% of every sold copy
Given the pc port, i'm still waiting for ps5 upgrade for zero dawn.
I agree with some on here that HZD shouldn't have been ported to PC. What was the point?
If it was about mere money then why no release it on Xbox as well? Release all their 'exclusives' on other platforms?
All of their Devs should have been working on the HZD sequel from day one, not a single member of staff should have been allocated to the PC port. What a waste of time and resources and money.
The first one is brilliant, the second one could be even better. If it doesn't come out until next year then so be it. Maybe I'll have a PS5 by then anyway.
🤔
@Col_McCafferty Hard to say roughly €30 million revenue for quick port of an existing game is a waste. But I don't come to push square for logic.
@IonMagus 30% is only for the first $10 million, then it's 20%
Extra hot take: Sony should put all their games on PC so they're not limited by hardware, like PS4 and PS5 do to their games.
@TheArt It's not about running well or crashing, but building a game for the ground up without the limitations of older hardware. For example, you can expect to have loading screens on PS5 (much shorter than on PS4) instead of a fully seamless world if it was a new gen exclusive.
@Jimmer-jammer
Comment Grade: A+
@Col_McCafferty. You been hiding col hahaha.what happened to your saints.they chocked again.haha.word up son
Yeah this now seems like a 2022 game. Year of the backlog continues! Definitely dont mind.
@JAMes-BroWWWn Yeah yeah it failed you happy now. I dont care if it does not sell enough on PC they wont make any more efforts towards PC. And if it made enough money they probably will sell a few other games in the future. You as head of finance at Sony probably if it sold enough and if you are not that how do you know its a failure?
@playstation1995 ha, not been hiding my friend!
Gutted but Brees had a shocker, one game too far perhaps. Sad but goes out as one of the great QBs. Hoping an AFC team wins it now, Bills or Chiefs.
The only issues is the pc version still needs work I have it and it still optimization, but I expect maybe a patch a couple of months not 1 a month now.
What PC gamers are mad at is Death Stranding uses the same engine and it runs perfect, this game is a really s port and should have been delayed a lot longer
@wiiware..... You just stated a contradiction.....
So people are not buy PS systems cause they want for the PS exclusives to be on PC but then when those that do drop on pc drop, they the people who were waiting for them to be on pc don't buy them
Your statement is contradicting itself...
@SweetSummerShunv..... Your use of Insomniac as an example to prove your point completely invalidates your point.
So Insomianic just dropped Miles Morales and will be dropping Rift Aprt soon, so how did they manage to be working on two games at once, do you honestly think Sony would not give Guerilla the same support as Insomianic, trust me, one team was working on HZD PC, one team working on Ps4 H FW and another team working on H FW Ps5.
What this means is that the HZD PC team will now join the two teams working on the 2 versions of H FW for finalizing the game for launch.
I mean it took Bluepoint 2 years to get Demos Souls ready for Ps5 launch from 2018's release of S. O. t. C
@Col_McCafferty i hear that.but its been 3 straight years they been the favorite and choke.sports is crazy sometimes its like that .packers should beat Tampa bay.aaron Rodgers is the man.baddddd man.word up son
@nessisonett
HZD for pc was a waste of time. I expected 5 million since there are more pc players as they say (most of them don't have capable pcs so that narrative is pointless for sony). Those 700k people could've bought playstations and invested in ps plus and on other exclusives. Horizon was just a test in the water and trust me. They are not going to do that again with console seller games. PC guys didn't buy it. Plain and simple. That's one less game to make people jump and buy a playstation.
@playstation1995 I don't think they were the outstanding favourite against the Buccs, indeed a lot of people thought Brady would come out on top.
Also, they were good this year but were much better in previous seasons. I don't think it's fair to say they choked.
@Tas10 they shine plenty on PS, the hardware they're actually made for.
Nah, no PS exclusives should go to PC. You want to play them then buy a PS. It should really be that simple.
Really excited for this game! I absolutely love the original and the DLC. Can't wait to play again
@JAMes-BroWWWn don't insult temtem.
I love how everyone is arguing on whether or not the port of HZD was successful of PC. Clearly people didn't read the millions of articles on how the game was a hit on PC but just had a few issues.
@Col_McCafferty If I remember correctly. I remember reading that the whole purpose of the port was to help bring the Decima engine to PC cause of Death Stranding. They used Horizon Zero Dawn as a test game and just decided to release it. I doubt they actually put any actually effort forth with the port. Probably only had a couple of engine programmers and QA who was probably not doing anything of importance other then twiddling their thumbs.
@Floki but the guy is explaning that if horizon forbidden west would've have release in a month or two, that effort would've mattered much. Either way. It was a test. Now they know. Even with death stranding, it wasn't all that great but that game had to do it because it broke even as an exclusive only game, which aren't the numbers sony wants.
@Nakatomi_Uk While both Death Stranding and HZD runs on the same engine. Death Stranding runs on a new version of the engine. Mostly like the same version of the engine being used for HZD: Forbidden West while HZD uses an older less optimized version of the engine...
@Col_McCafferty. No people pick the saints to win it all especially in the nfc.they beat tampa before.and 3 years straight they choke is what im saying.they should of have 3 superbowl by now.thats a fact.word up son
@Tas10
You sound like you need to get your PS4 serviced.
@LiterallyDoNotCare Maybe. But we'll never know now will we.
@Tas10 Me? Recheck your browser. You've stumbled on to a Playstation site.
This console game isn't meant for console. My favorite take in the comments.
As for the topic at hand, good to see they're shifting all focus where it rightfully should be. Not going to wade into the failure vs success debate, in regards to pc release, but I would much rather they'd been either prioritizing a PS5 version of ZD or just working on FW. But that's just me.
This ANNOYS me!!! :-/ SONY STOP! wasting time on PC versions please :-/ And spend that time making PS5 games PLEASE! I don't support the PlayStation brand for them to make PC versions of their games.
@Jimmer-jammer... Dude..... Your deserve a beer. Your entire post is the exact, correct and proper review of the game.
The game is teaming with potential its insane. Your can feel the Decima Engine is well crafted and still has miles to be stretched. Interesting to see how they add to the depth of the world.

@Jimmer-jammer.... MR JJ..... You deserve a beer. Your entire post is the exact, correct and proper review of the game.
The game is teaming with potential its insane. Your can feel the Decima Engine is well crafted and still has miles to be stretched. Interesting to see how they add to the depth of the world.
The backstory is the best of the last gen, i.e HZD has the best reason why you are doing what you are doing in the game, just that the forward story is told clunky as you said. The backstory is so good I actually want it to be a playable part of the game to see how we got the Dino bots in the first place.
The Dino bots are the starts of show, I bill them as the best enemies to be in combat with the entire generation.
Anyone who wants know what HZD is about should read your post. Best description of the game I have seen on the net.
@TheArt... Absolutely on point my guy. Some devs just know their craft and some yah... don't know what to say, too focused on hardware having to do the leg work for them.
I mean the ps1 had some unforgettable gaming experiences and devs had about 2mb to work with and still made it happen
@Rhaoulos As someone who will not be buying PS5 but holds HZD as one of my absolute favorite games ever, I am so grateful that I will get to experience it on PS4.
@rjc-32 70 pounds is the standard edition not ultimate lmao
@Tas10 we have a thing called ps5 now, don't speak as if the next-gen games can't run perfectly on ps5 and btw, your pc won't be able to play R&C even if sony ports it because you don't have a fast enough ssd to play it
this is why i thought sony shouldn't be doing this.. or at the very least, if they really couldn't resist putting it on PC, fob it off to an outsourced developer to port to PC and not waste guerrilla's resource time (even if the studio wanted to do it). might even have had the added bonus of getting another external studio familiar with the decima engine, which could be put to use on an original commissioned project. it's been 2017 since HZD, and likely going to be 4.5 (more likely 5) for another game from guerrilla.. going forward that's not sustainable for sony, it needs to get stuff out faster on PS5, or its going to be caught with a period when all of its studios are stuck in a long hiatus between games.
@OthmaneAD @rjc-32 — it's cross-gen (and a free upgrade) so i doubt it will be £70 even on PS5.. why wouldn't you buy it for sub-£50 on PS4 and take the free upgrade?. personally i can see the same kind of situation as miles morales.. where a remastered version of the previous game is included for the £70 version. considering they already put quite a bit of work into enhancing it for PC.. backporting that for PS5 seems a possibility to me.
@GREGORIAN thanks, man! I was hoping not to come off as too harsh but I really believe in this universe and as a first open world effort, it was impressive.
Unpacking the backstory of how the world got to this point was a clear highlight and I thought it was pure genius. The information was brilliant but the delivery left a lot to be desired. I just felt like the last quarter of the game was me moving from room to room listening to audio tape after audio tape. I like audio tapes, just give me something to do while listening to them.
The world was a fresh take that carried me through the ups and downs of the experience, but more of the same would be a real shame, as that special feeling I had while playing will be lost. The potential is there to be one of greats, here’s hoping! Have a good one!
@GREGORIAN I'm talking about technical stuff, not the ability and resources or lack thereof on the part of studios to make full use of the new console's hardware capabilities, so no there's nothing being invalidated.
@sketchturner I get your point, but it's like buying BotW on a Wii U because you don't want to buy a Switch. It's a minority of potential buyers that will prevent the game from reaching the highest quality. And just like you, HZD was the single reason for me to buy a PS4 (pro), except forbidden west will be the justification for a PS5 once Sony fixes that sh*t of a website and finish developing the console so it's actually usable.
@Tas10 Well there's no need to rub it in like that either. I have a top tier rig with a 3090 inside it and I appreciate the fact that the console makers are at least making a decent effort this time, so at least the baseline will be alot higher this time even when considering the contemporaneous technologies elsewhere, and 60fps will once again hopefully be the norm rather than some golden standard.
@Tas10
yawn...
I'm no expert in game development, but if they are just now putting their full focus on Forbidden West, certainly there is no way this hits it's 2021 release date right?
@JAMes-BroWWWn
Dw mate, more of those PlayStation exclusives will make their way onto the PC in due time :3
Whether you like it or you don't :'D
@Spyroescape I don't care if all exclusives get on all platforms. Are you unable to comprehend a simple sentence? I care when Sony is so stupid to let their own in house studios waste their time/effort/resources porting them.
The same example I was saying with Guerrilla Games. They could have been done with Forbidden West if they hadn't ported HZD themselves. Simply a failure in all regards.
PS4 users = 50million (conservative) and PS5 = 5 million (maybe, if you can find one!)
Why's anyone surprised its coming to PS4?
Maybe supply will have improved and more people will have a PS5 by the time this launches but at the end of the day, given how amazing HZD looked on a Pro in particular, it makes financial sense to release it on all viable consoles and that most definitely includes the 4.
So the PS5 will look shinier, load quicker and have a better frame rate. PS4 will probably be locked to 30fps, not look quite as shiny (still look great though given the devs track record) and load times will take a bit longer.
