PlayStation Access has released a fantastic video that shows one second of every game that has helped define the PS4 generation. At over three minutes in length, there are a lot of titles to get through, but it's worth a watch purely so that we're reminded of all the great games we've played over the last seven years or so.
It all kicks off with launch titles such as Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack, before moving chronologically through the years. With just one month to go before the PS5 hits store shelves — even less than that if you're outside of Europe — the time seems right to look back on what has been, in our opinion, a fantastic console generation.
What are some of the games that have defined your PS4 experience? Tell us all about your favourite titles in the comments section below.

Playstation Access is one of the best YouTube channel (if not the best) but underrated
Pretty amazing montage. PS4's probably come the closest to equalling the glory days of the PS2 imo. I'm glad I was able to contribute to that in some way even though I didn't immediately jump onto the console for like 2 years.
I counted four seconds of Troy Baker
This is a great video, man I can't believe ps4 generation will end next month, here's to ps5 gen
@DualshockInfinit ahh beat me to it! xD
Was gonna say, guess how many times Troy Baker's voice is heard
Great compilation video by PS Access.
Great video, they should just use this as an advert for PS5. 'Where will you go next?' or something.
What a time to be a gamer!
Its been a great ride im still chilling with my ps4 pro.got more then 70 games to play.still having fun with my ps4 pro with darkest dungeon 🖤.best indie game ever.word up son
@Medic_Alert Whenever that happened to me, that was often a result of some nebulous ad stuff going on, either on YouTube or on Push Square that crashed the browser.
I thought it was just going to be a 1 second movie clip showing Venom Snake.
games that defined the gen for me.
Horizon Zero Dawn is no.1.
Rocket League (put soooo many hours into it)
Apex Legends (Rarely a day goes by where I don't put it on)
and probably Spiderman to top it all off.
I never finished God of war or TLOU2 and never started GoT so plenty to play when I get my ps5.
@crazykcarter For me it is quite the opposite. This gen was the worst for me by far, barely any real games worth playing in comparison to previous gens.
It's not been a bad gen has it?
@Medic_Alert I never quite figured it out completely. I just complained a bit about it on the forums, pushed some buttons on my adblocker settings and then things were fine again.
(Don't worry, I don't block ads on Push Square. Only those that f my pc up!)
So many great exclusives the Xbox one didn't stand a chance. Though, Microsoft is trying to address the lack of exclusive.
Ah man that was a great video, and the music went pretty good with it too. I saw run time of 3.42 and thought no way they going to fill that all with brilliant games I was wrong haha, actually played most of the games, you do tend to forget about some games, after watching that you realise what a great gen we had/have. Hopefully ps5 will be even better and I have a feeling it will. Think Sony should have done ps one this week and then build up one each week untill ps5 would have been a nice nod to ps overall.
Loved the ending!
My games of this generation were undoubtedly Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Uncharted 4, AC Odyssey, Forza Horizon 4, Forza Motorsport 7 ( yeah, I know them last 2 were Xbox but they are hands down my favourite driving games), Doom and Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein, Spider Man, the Ori games,Bloodborne, oh, and THAT Polish game about a monster hunter. Yeah it's been a bloody good generation, and I look forward to seeing what Sony and Microsoft are cooking up for the next gen. I am definitely going to have both again.
I found out, the best games were from ps2 and ps3 (in ps4 remakes). This gen was not so bad, but quite.... average. Too long, too "open world"... maybe I'm too old...
That was brilliant.
@L3GTRIGA Totally agree. I love the passion of everyone that works at PlayStation Access. I can’t tell you how many times that I’ve rewatched each of the Friday Features.
Greatest creation of the decade; Oddsock.
Some of those saying this gen sucked really need to take their nostalgia googles off, in terms of sheer volume and variety of games I feel like this gen was unparalleled. Both in the triple AAA and indie scene.
This gen has been fantastic. I've been playing since the 80's and its impossible to argue that this gen isn't among the best:
Horizon Zero Dawn
God of War
Last of Us Part 2
Red Dead 2
Persona 5
Final Fantasy 7
Ghost of Tsushima
Spiderman
Detroit
Life is Strange
Ratchet and Clank
Uncharted 4/lost legacy
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Resident Evil 7 (plus the remakes)
Titanfall 2
Astrobot and the rise of VR gaming
The Yakuza series finally hitting it big
The dominance of AAA gaming being disrupted by indie titles like firewatch and no mans sky.
Yeah this gen has been pretty spectacular!
And PS5 is going to be even better. Just look at the first line up compared to PS4
So many great games. For me it is hard to decide the best, because I have a lot of favorites. And as @JJ2 said, PS5 will be much better. I am ready for the future of gaming.
Great video to cap a wonderful generation, also loved the Troy Baker is in every game Easter egg 😂
PS4 has been an awesome generation. So much so that I am gamed out. Astrobot, Rocket League, Yakuza zero, HZD, Hotline Miami, The Witness, Tekken 7, Streets of Rage 4. Then my personal favourite Dreams.
What a generation after the grey and sombre previous gen.
What a fantastic generation that was. it feels like yesterday I bought my PS4 although it's been 7 years already. I pre-ordered a PS5 and will complete my PS4 game collection on it. I will clean my PS4, put it back in the box and keep it forever.
So much to look forward to, with PS4 backwards compatibility being the icing on the cake. I'm starting this generation with Cyberpunk 2077 😎
