We’ve been hearing for many months now that Naughty Dog was targeting a 2019 release date for The Last of Us: Part 2, but with news emerging that Death Stranding may deploy during the holidays, it sounds like Ellie’s sophomore effort has been internally pushed back. This can’t be considered a delay because the title was never officially dated, but reliable Kotaku reporter Jason Schreier claims that we’re now looking at an early 2020 launch:
Assuming that Death Stranding is due this holiday, then following it up with arguably the most anticipated sequel in PlayStation history a few months later makes sense. Remember, Sony still has Ghost of Tsushima in the pipeline as well, and a summer launch for the Feudal foray would effectively see the platform holder through to the PlayStation 5, which is expected to arrive around November 2020. It’s going to be an exciting 18 months, folks.

The usual last minute ND delay, which also happens to be the exact reason Sony doesn’t reveal dates early anymore.
Either way If the DS 8th of Nov rumour works out, the Dec - Summer 20’ period is going to once again be insane for us!
Then it’s onward to PS5 😁
I've always been expecting it early 2020...
Damn. unhappy face
Dammit! I was seriously hoping for 2019 fall release! but aslong as it's early 2020 and we get a solid date soon. It's all good.
It's crazy how Sony is just sucking up all the news waves right now just before E3. I mean with all the attention their getting w/o even going the may never go back lol!
The madness what's going on ?
'This can’t be considered a delay because the title was never officially dated'
Haha too late. TLOU II has Days Gone 'multiple delays' reporting syndrome stamped all over it already
I think that rumour is bs tbh.
It might be just he got it wrong in the first place.
Without a solid release date, I don't feel bad for the game going from fall 2019 to early 2020.
Cool. Make it as good as it can get on the PS4, it should be a great send-off game for a great console.
Thought 2019 was a bit optimistic. Early 2020 is good, and honestly I'd be quite happy waiting until the PS5 if necessary. Just need it to be as good as it possibly can be - everything else is flexible.
ughh that absolutey suck if this is true. i don't know why Naughty Dog are too slow to announce release date before Kojima announce release date for Death Stranding is November 8 as release date leaked
@JJ2 I know right what release date reveal. 😁
@Neolit Dont make me sad mate. 😆
Much like I was speculating the other day. With mo-capping only wrapped up recently,I thought it would be a crunch to try & get it out by Oct./Nov. Still, rather see ND take their time & get it right. Might even allow for any extra DLC plans. Death Stranding coming this year might be a little surprising but its not like every title needs a HZD type of grind to make it successful.
They finished filming the final scene just a month ago. Who actually expected a 2019 release date for this?
Hm. Got TloU2 and DS backwards for release date but had the windows for all 3 (if ghosts does release summer) correct. Wassup with Concrete Genie. Id like a concrete date for that please
Sony still has a pretty stacked release schedule:
•Dreams is in early access, with an imminent full release to follow.
•Judgment is scheduled to release next month.
•Concrete Genie is set to release sometime this fall.
•MediEvil is slated for an October 2019 release.
•Rumors are pointing to a November 2019 release for Death Stranding.
•Babylon’s Fall is scheduled for a release sometime in 2019.
•That leaves Nioh 2 as a 2019/2020 release, The Last of Us 2 for early 2020, Ghosts of Tsushima for mid-2020, and if the rumors are true, a Bluepoint game. Oh, and Shenmue 3...maybe.
There’s still a lot of life left in this generation.
Honestly thought this would be releasing around Q2 2020, so this makes absolutely no difference for me.
Let Naughty Dog take their time
The only thing that I am contemplating now is if the PS5 releases in late 2020 and is fully BC with PS4 titles, should I hold off from buying TLOU2 day 1 and wait to play it on the next gen console? Whether that be via BC or a potential "Remastered/Definitive Edition" PS5 version.
I'm sure the game will play fine on PS4, but i'm starting to feel my base console is slowly showing its age a tad with these end of gen titles pushing the console to its limits.
I'm not made of money, but am strongly considering upgrading from my base PS4 to a Pro. Is it worth it considering the PS5 is round the corner.
How dare they take more time to make their game even better. 😡
@East76landS yea that seems like a huge mistake. you are better off waiting for the ps5 and then simply selling/trading your ps4 towards a ps5 — full b/c with ps4 games and it will do everything ps4 pro does and more. that is the road i might take, although i might not sell my base ps4 and keep it for the collection as i tend to do with all my consoles.
It would be a mistake to leave both The Last of Us 2 and Death Stranding simultaneously as they are both horror games and would compete with one another.
Kojima Productions probably want Death Stranding to be released as soon as possible after it’s finished so they can use the sales revenue to fund their next game. As a first party studio of Sony It doesn’t matter to naughty dog when they game is released. Naughty Dog know that their next project will be funded and published by Sony.
I remember that people said the same thing about Days Gone. That it was ready and they were deliberately delaying it to a better release window. When it finally came out it still needed patches.
Okay, this is becoming a joke... How much longer do we have to wait for this game? It's disrespectful to the fans.
This is a huge dissapointment...im happy they are taking their time but I really had my heart set in a 2019 release..
Even if it is early 2020 now, something has to be shown within the next 2 weeks at least..we need that confirmation officially & accompanied with a new trailer...then it will be an easier pill to swallow...
2016: Trailer Released
2017: Trailer Released
2018: Gameplay Trailer Released
2019: There's gotta be something right?
I'm crushed but have all the faith in the world when it comes to ND.
@Blitzermann And your language is disrespect to the site

@Tasuki Where exactly did I swear? Where did I offend anyone?
@Blitzermann How is it disrespectful to fans? It'll come out when it's ready. I'd rather wait 6 more months then have a game with more bugs and developers pushed to breaking point due to crunch just a few online are inpatient.
@Blitzermann You dropped an F bomb, which is not allowed here.
@AdamNovice It's going to be more than 6 months since it'll probably be in 2020.
@TheLastOfUs2 because it's not finished?
@mvhess final stage of development mean they are closer to complete development
@TheLastOfUs2 yeah but still not done. They posted a job for a melee animator less than a month ago
@mvhess yep but they are still into crunch work now so i guess they go back to normal shift soon because it got pushed to early 2020 if rumor is true
Can't say I am surprised by this
I didn't think anything was confirmed for 2019, didn't expect it to be this year either. Too much time farting around with Lost Legacy, adequate but unnecessary DLC.
