Atlus has finally lifted the curtain on Persona 5: The Royal, and yes, it appears to be an enhanced version of Persona 5. It has new locations, new scenes, new characters, new character interactions, new attacks in combat, and... Well, that's just about everything we caught while watching the trailer.
Persona 5: The Royal launches later this year on PlayStation 4 in Japan. It's due to hit on the 31st October.
Update: Further information on Persona 5: The Royal has been released, detailing many of the game's fresh additions. You can read all about the changes and improvements through here.

Hopefully we get localization information soon. Some time in 2019 would be ideal.
Atlus again with not world wide release, 2020 for the west.
Woohoo, a full price rerelease on the same console not coming until next year.
Ah who am I kidding, I’m freaking pumped! Can’t wait to see how the add in the new semester in place of what happened after Christmas in P5, and the new locations look great. More school stuff wil also be neat.
@NintendoFan4Lyf I think they're supposed to announce it tomorrow.
@NintendoFan4Lyf We will probably find that out tomorrow. The show is spread over two days.
Edit: Looks like I was a bit slow.
That’s pretty far off, with release in the West surely several months after that (early 2020?)
Guess I’ll keep trying to finish the vanilla P5 rather than wait.
As much as I’d like to avoid paying again for the same game... it’s another excuse to play through possibly the greatest JRPG of this millennium. Plus the extra features won’t hurt. I kinda put off playing NG+ because I forgot to grab the item off the twins before completing the game. Yep, I’m traumatised.
@nessisonett P4G says hi.
Be still my beating heart.
There goes another 200 hours of my life.
@AlejandroMora Good localizations take time. To avoid delay, Atlus would have to either sit on the Japanese release for months after it's ready for release or crank out a quick localization that short-changes the writing and/or voice-acting of the original. Neither is great - I'd personally rather wait and have them get it right.
Holy crap, grappling hooks! That explains Joker's move in Smash. We all assumed it was just a reference to the menu transitions, but Sakurai knew...
My persona 5 steelcase still sealed on my shelf, I think I’ll play this latest persona 5 instead, I hope it come to the west soon
Edit: I really hope there’s another steelbook edition or at least launch edition so I can have 2 persona 5 steelbook.
I hope i can transfer save data and play theough this on NG+ rather than having to start over. If it means i can mop up the left over social links etc from the vanilla release im interested. Trailer looks good and i like the look of the new areas, but we need more info on how much additional content is included before i jump on it

And there it is, we kinda knew this was gonna happen.
@themcnoisy It's a close one! Persona-lly (heh), I prefer 5 but 4 is seriously good too. It's crazy that Squeenix were so dominant in the 90s but Persona 3, 4 and 5 are better than pretty much anything they've put out in the 2000s.
Awesome. I still need to finish my second play through. To get the ultimate persona
I do kinda wish you could get it as DLC rather than a standalone release, but I'll be picking this up regardless!
So much for platinuming P5. When this comes around, I'll probably have to forced to play vanilla P5 again.
I had the concert playing on my phone during work, was over 2 hours long.
Now tomorrow and another 2 hours for P5S! I wont hide it, I really want it to be a Switch version.
Makoto aside, I thought P4G was a much more memorable game.
Persona 5 stole a lot of my time this year, and with this news it looks like it's going to do the same thing again next year. I can't wait
@ApostateMage I've been replaying P4G recently and have mixed feelings. I appreciate that it's more efficient in its pacing and has a more chill vibe overall, but I just don't find myself connecting to the characters and themes in the same way. I think it's mainly that the comic relief doesn't work for me. I still find Yosuke to be whiny and Teddie's aggressiveness with the ladies was never as charming to me as it was clearly meant to be.
That said, Kanji is perfect. God bless that kid.
@nessisonett Agreed. Squenix seemed to obsess over cutting edge graphics and developing new gameplay systems that are divisive at best. Meanwhile, Atlus focused on style and refining traditional RPG mechanics to the point that they feel fresh but accessible. Final Fantasy never really figured out setting difficulty at a level where turn-based battles remain compelling, but that's been Atlus's bread and butter.
2020? That's a very long wait! hoo boy...
