Well, we weren't expecting this. To kick off the inaugural episode of State of Play, Sony debuted a trailer for the newly announced Iron Man VR, coming to PlayStation VR exclusively in 2019.
Developed by Camouflaj, the game sees you take the role of Tony Stark - Iron Man - as you don the famous red and yellow suit and take to the skies. Though not much gameplay was shown, it looks like you'll be blasting enemies out of the air with Iron Man's trademark laser beams.
"In Marvel’s Iron Man VR the player, who plays as the genius inventor Tony Stark, confronts ghosts from his past — powerful forces who seek to ruin him and everything he stands for," writes Ryan Payton of Camouflaj on the PlayStation Blog. "By fully embracing the magic of PlayStation VR, players will come face-to-face with iconic allies and Super Villains as they jet around the globe on a heroic mission to save not only Stark Industries, but the world itself. We cannot wait to share more about how we are telling an original Iron Man story in a way that only virtual reality allows."
Will you be suiting up in Iron Man VR for PSVR?

The announcement of State of Play for me. Was just saying to my nephew a few days ago that Sony should throw a few quid Marvel's way to make an Iron Man game so this is bloody bliss.
I've always wanted to play a game as the billionaire Tony Stank
Is it gonna be a proper game or a 1-2 hour 'experience'?
This looks awful.
Hopefully this will a great on rails shooters:)
@CountFunkula78 Probably more like that free Spiderman VR game that lasted 15 minutes..
What a wonderful blueballs moment for all expecting the Chrystal dynamics Avengers game 😂
I'd rather they turn Anthem into a legit Ironman game.
@Wazeddie22 I doubt it. This has Sony's backing and I don't think they will finance a 15 minute demo.
Plus I wouldn't judge the game on how it looks, most VR aren't lookers anyway cos framerate is far more important.
Could be cool. I’ve akwys though Ironman was perfect for VR. I hop it’s more than flying though.
This has a lot of potential. Just the idea of putting the helmet on and having the display pop up is cool. Flying is great in VR so hopefully they put a lot of effort and polish into this. I'm definitely looking forward to it.
@AdamNovice It doesn't look awful because of the graphics necessarily - but based on what we saw, it looks like a pretty dull, predictable experience.
The best bits of the whole thing were the non-gameplay sections.
@KALofKRYPTON VR games are more about how they feel though. Unless the controls are bad it's still going to feel fun cos VR enhances even average games due to it's very nature.
@AdamNovice It looks as if it'll feel rote more than anything.
Beyond the novelty factor, the likelihood is that we're seeing the entirety of the gameplay loop right here.
@KALofKRYPTON If it's fun then I don't care. Iron man in VR is the kind of project Sony should be doing cos it ticks a kind of fantasy wishlist
I hope there's more to it than flying while flailing your arms though
