Judgment, the latest spin-off from the Yakuza franchise, will release in European and US territories on 25th June in physical form. However, budding private detectives can gain early access to the game four days early on the 21st June via a digital purchase from the PlayStation Store.
It's an interesting proposition from Japanese publisher SEGA, which joins the ranks of others in offering a way to play an upcoming title by either coughing up more money or purchasing the title in a certain fashion. While it's not quite as egregious, it's a situation not so dissimilar to that of ANTHEM's one week early access over on the PC and Xbox One via EA Access, or The Division 2's three day headstart for those who buy the Gold Edition.
Have you been tempted into buying a digital copy of Judgment in order to play it four days early? Solve the case in the comments below.

Simple answer no! Looking forward to it but not paying extra to play it a few days early
Buy it digital so I can spoil the story to everyone before the game has even released? What a deal!
I'll just buy the game physically; I prefer it that way, to be honest. There's just something about seeing my games lined up on a shelf and stuff.
oh boy.
great way for making sure the game will be spoiled early devs...
is this the new way they will try to kill off physical sales? next gen better not indulge in that goal.
Do you guys not understand how the industry works? The reason it’s early access for digital is they want you to buy digital. If you buy it digital profits are split between Sony and Sega. If you buy it physical the Retailer also gets a cut.
@jdv95 not it’s a way to cut out a 3rd party(retailer) from taking a cut of the money.
@suikoden that’s not paying extra...it’s the same
I'll get the physical version of the game. I'm not concerned with paying extra to receive the game earlier.
@jly1987
It is it you don't buy new games digitally and after the whole fiasco with anthem, I never will.
Am I the only one that’s just buzzing about it coming as early as June?
@Frigate
EH? Here in the uk average physical price is £40 while it's around £50 plus for digital! Sure it's the same with most of the rest of the world.
Also.pretty.certain depending on which state you are in, in America you pay tax on digital.
@suikoden In North America, the price is either the same because some states/provinces pay taxes or it's cheaper because they don't.
@GigaGaia
Good for America but not for the rest of the world.
@Frigate
Also with games like anthem that buts people of digitally, fine if you buy physical sell it on or return it if we're you got it from allows it, digital is a whole different matter
The PSN store needs to have some system like steam.
@suikoden in the US digital is the same at launch. Physical typically price drops sooner
Nop. I'll be selling it back to Amazon as soon as I am done. So need it physical.
No rush - I'll wait for the main release just like The Division 2.
I buy all my games digitally anyway. I wouldn't mind if more publishers allowed you to play the game early when you purchase it digitally actually! Physical copies have to be pressed after the game has gone gold, but a game might be perfectly playable digitally!
I'm excited for June! Judgement looks great!
@Frigate Well, across the pond it's a different story. €60 used to be the standard for games, but digital has been going up to €70 for a lot of games (FIFA, COD, BOTW from what I remember), whereas physical can actually be found on the lower end of 50. That's a difference of almost €20 for a new game on day one (and this is not the US, so tax is included ). I've got Days Gone pre-ordered at the moment because I paid €52 for it. Yoshi on the Switch was only €46 for a physical pre-order, whereas the digital version will be €60. Aside from personal preferences, you save quite a lot by buying physical as well.
Interesting. Digital is always the same price in the States. In the case of Switch games, it's often cheaper to nab certain games digitally by default. That's in addition to Nintendo's 5% cash back system for digital purchases, the possibility of purchasing discounted eshop credit online, and not paying sales tax if you're willing to lie about where you live (seems to be a common practice with a lot of people who live in states with high sales taxes, I've noticed).
That's not the case with PS4 games, but if you're willing to wait, they make up for it with way better PSN sales.
*"via a digital purchase from the PlayStation Store.

Or Sony with Dreams...
Finally a release date. Have been looking forward to this alot.
Sega has been struggling with its localisations in the past and has just recently had some successes like Yakuza 0, so I do understand that digital sales are far less risky. On the other hand, psn prices for physically released games are criminally expensive, unless there's a major sale. I always stick to physical, I can wait a few days longer. Don't get why some people are worried about spoilers!? Not as if this is as popular as game of thrones, avengers endgame or the sport results, so don't worry!
@tameshiyaku As long as Ono Michi's in it, I'll be happy!
@Nerdfather1 THIS!!!! Lol
My B Day month, I guess I know what game I’m getting.
I'll wait for the physical copy.... if they trying to kill physical copies thus pissing off retailers whos gonna carry their hardware, and accessories?
If you buy it digital you wont get the reversible cover or studio sticker though. Also the whole having no rights or control over your purchase thing.
Well we can blame EA, Square, Microsoft and co. for making this a thing... .
Absolutely ridiculous, but at least they're not charging you extra for the 'privilege'.
Unless it gets a launch/PS+ discount, I'll get it physical as I'll be able to get it cheaper.
No, I definitely want a physical copy of this! Even though it's only four days for now, I'm not impressed with Sega for getting in on the early access trend though. Pleased to have a June release date though!
I am very pleased they listened, and didn't put this game out in August,with Shenmue 3 that month. June is perfect!
I'd definitely wait a few days for the physical copy with the reversible cover! LOVE physical copies.
What worries me about this release though, will the English dub be the one and only available option? I really hope they'll let us use Japanese audio with English subtitles...
@Kidfried game has been out in japan for months. if you want the story to be spoiled you already had plenty of time for that.
and this is not the typical case of early access as in this case it doesn't cost more
@sonicmeerkat I'm buying physical, no early excess is going to change that. I really hate this early access trend.
I guess this is why the western release for the demo has been a no show and I'm disappointed by that.
