It's been a busy week for PlayStation in Japan. Monster Hunter: World is still king of the Japanese software charts, staying strong at number one for the third consecutive week. Capcom's brilliant action role-playing game shifted a further 159,000 copies on PlayStation 4.
Unable to knock it off its perch was the disappointing Dynasty Warriors 9. Although it debuted in second place, the open world hack and slasher only managed to move 118,000 copies. That may seem like a decent amount at first glance, but it's only around half of what Dynasty Warriors 8 sold during its opening week. This means that the series' downward trend continues -- Dynasty Warriors 8 itself sold less than Dynasty Warriors 7.
Two other new PlayStation titles made it into the top five: Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet, and Shadow of the Colossus. The former shifted a decent 75,000 copies, while the latter only did a meagre 22,000 copies. A bit of a shame, that.
Last but not least, Dragon's Crown Pro entered in eleventh place, only moving around 12,000 copies. Again, a bit of a shame.
On the hardware side of things, the PS4 continues its run at the top with around 70,000 units sold across both the standard model and the PS4 Pro. Another good result for Sony.

If you think about it 1/4 of the Top 20 Games sold is PS4
Plus ofc still on that streak of outselling Switch atm Thanks to MonHun World
DW open world is just dumb.
And wow good week for PS4 with a lot of new games.
But I do believe that Switch will top the charts at march start.
Nothing stop monhun world train
yeahhhh Monster Hunter!
@Frank90 if not Bayonetta
Then Kirby will be that thing
it's a shame about SotC. great game.
@manu0 Probably due to lack of marketing in Japan. Plus, it's a remaster of an old game.
Also, not a fan of SAO but while Fatal Bullet's sales may not be impressive, it is still better than Accel World vs SAO's sales, which only sold 40-60k copies on each platforms, which was underwhelming when compared to its preccessors which sold 70-100k during their first weeks.
This shows the Japanese have no taste Japan you suck.
PS4] Shadow of the Colossus (SIE, 02/08/18) – 21,900 (New)
Wow, PS4 has really been dominating in Japan since the beginning of 2018.
Monster Hunter is a couple of weeks away from 2 million physical. With digital, it could already be approaching 2.5 million.
That Japanese chart is so Japanese.
@YummyHappyPills Nah, I don't think HWDE will beat 118k. The Wii U and 3DS versions didn't do too badly but they were both under 100k (around 70k and 54k respectively). Can't see a port giving them enough of a boost, even when taking the Switch's popularity into account. I mean, there's always a chance, but seems unlikely given Japan's general buying habits.
Shame on you Japan, for not support Shadow of the Colossus.
If they can fix the framerate issue in Dynasty Warriors 9, I'm all in. These games are awesome. It's not just the console versions that are having problems though, the PC version is having the same framerate issues.
Shadow of the Colossus had some tough competition in West, with releases like Kingdom Come in the same month, but I don't know what competition it faced in Japan. Not sure why it sold so poorly over there. I wonder how well it has sold in the West.
The list makes me hyped for Sword Art Online.
And look at Skyrim hanging in there, that's the stand-out for me.
