The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals that Monster Hunter: World sold 652,614 digital copies over the weekend that it launched in Japan. This means that, when added to its initial retail sales of 1.35 million copies, World actually managed to break 2 million sales over just three days. That's a whole new level of impressive.
At the time of writing, Monster Hunter: World has moved over 6 million copies worldwide. Capcom must be looking to the future and licking its lips.

Wow, very impressive numbers. I guess that puts a dampener on the detractors who claimed the game wasn't doing as well in Japan despite its stronger worldwide performance.
Looks like it's doing well everywhere. Like you say in the article, Capcom will be thrilled because it was a gamble but it's paid off big time.
As a consumer of MH in it's portable form I honestly hope they don't come back, MHW is just too damn good.
Nice one Capcom. Now where's the Dragon's Dogma sequel with 4 player Co op join in/out at any point in a mission, fast travel anywhere (like skyrim) and bigger range of enemies
How does it compare to previous games launching in Japan? Don't they typically do 3-5 million lifetime?
That has to be one of the best Japanese launches, regardless of platform.
@Fight_Teza_Fight I think the best selling MH game in Japan so far is MH4 with around 3.5 million copies sold. I think this may be the fastest selling MH game of all time, even in Japan.
@bbq_boy
I think they had EA and Activision to thank for good sales in the west too.
@Athrum I think they can do both... although I think the only way they can get high sales in exclusive form is on PlayStation
Otherwise I think all platforms should get MH.
Hmm I do wonder now if Capcom now will take Ace Attorney & try to do what they did w MH here
The sales appear to be quite ... Monstrous. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I'll leave now.
I don't care too much about sales but I am so exhausted with some of the nintendrones that I welcome this evidence...
It's so good...
I read somewhere it's outselling Battlefront 2.
3rd party games sold best on playstation
Good job Capcom
Loving every minute of it!
@Bliquid Precisely.
Incredible digital sales.
MHW digital launch week sales weren't far off from the physical launch week sales of FFXV.
Monster Hunter World exceeds expectations even digitally. It's breaking records left and right. (Or as you might say, east and west.)
@Bonito I loved the 4521 minutes I've already spent with it and I just can't stop loving it.
@Grim-Tuesday
It's a great game and Capcom and Sony advertised it really well, but I'd agree with you that EA and Activision's blunders certainly didn't hurt this game's chances.
@Gamer83 Hey, a game with tons of monsters, quests, and loot and without lootboxes is a very big deal. It'll be interesting to hear who bought monster Hunter.
@wiiware yup so well I question why they needa be on other systems
