Just when you're about to hit the hay, news breaks that Star Wars Battlefront 2's microtransactions have been taken offline. The game's "crystal" currency, which you can buy with real money, has been removed from the PlayStation Store and other digital storefronts, suggesting that something's about to happen. Of course, no one quite knows what that something is right now.
Could EA be... Altering the deal? Yes, we know we've already used that for the tagline but come on, it's perfect. As you'd expect, there's a lot of speculation going on at the time of writing. The game's been blanketed in negativity for weeks now -- has the publisher finally decided to back down on its aggressive push of loot boxes? We doubt it'd do that completely, but perhaps a restructuring is in order. Either way, we're interested in seeing how this plays out.
What do you think this is all about? Until we hear more, keep your wallet closed in the comments section below.
Update: It's official. EA has removed microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront 2. Temporarily, anyway.

Great news!
At this juncture I encourage everyone not to jump the gun. In situations like this you may as well always expect the worst, then when something slightly better happens, you're that little bit happier.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA it’s like they’re on thier knees like
“Please oh please buy our game”
Yeah... NO!
Btw yes Ik what they’re gonna do id rather play Superman 64 than deal w thier Squit
I never thought I would be as miserable as the day I watched phantom menace kick my childhood dreams into the bin. I was wrong.
The last few weeks watching EA kick my real life passion into the bin was even worse.
They're going to get rid of of loot boxes and make every map pack $30
@themcnoisy this this this!!! it was actively hurting my enjoyment for Star Wars and any hope for a decent Star Wars game in the next 5 years.

@Shepherd_Tallon think you're right there. Gonna be interesting to see what they do. Hhhhmmmm.
Good now this is a real change.
They should add cosmetic micro-transaction/lootbox for the game like overwatch, not pay to win card like now. Or make the game free to play, nobody would complaint about lootbox if the game is free to play.
They're only doing this so people will believe it, go buy the game and then get shafted when EA puts everything back in.
EA will definitely bring back micro transactions.
I do think though that this will really embolden gamers to stand up to other publishers that try and do the same thing - EA will still get theirs but EA has really hurt other publishers that try and do similar things.
My bet is that they'll bring back microtransactions but only slightly less awful ones. Even without microtransactions the game is still horrible thanks to the amount of grinding it involves.
Is that the sound of a Deathstar exploding I can hear?
