Just when you're about to hit the hay, news breaks that Star Wars Battlefront 2's microtransactions have been taken offline. The game's "crystal" currency, which you can buy with real money, has been removed from the PlayStation Store and other digital storefronts, suggesting that something's about to happen. Of course, no one quite knows what that something is right now.

Could EA be... Altering the deal? Yes, we know we've already used that for the tagline but come on, it's perfect. As you'd expect, there's a lot of speculation going on at the time of writing. The game's been blanketed in negativity for weeks now -- has the publisher finally decided to back down on its aggressive push of loot boxes? We doubt it'd do that completely, but perhaps a restructuring is in order. Either way, we're interested in seeing how this plays out.

What do you think this is all about? Until we hear more, keep your wallet closed in the comments section below.

Update: It's official. EA has removed microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront 2. Temporarily, anyway.
