God of War’s progression system has been more or less the same across six or seven games: you collect red orbs, feed them to your weapon of choice, and reap the rewards. However, the series’ forthcoming PlayStation 4 soft-reboot will handle things a little differently. According to an article in Official PlayStation Magazine UK (as spotted by The Wolf Hall), you’ll be visiting two Norse dwarfs to upgrade your arsenal.
The bearded blacksmiths are named Brokkr and Eitri, and are famous in Viking lore for forging Mjolnir – the impressive hammer wielded by Thor. There’s no specific information on how the upgrade system will work – is there a currency you’ll need to collect in order to recruit the smiths’ services? – but by building the skill tree around two characters, it should inject a little more personality into proceedings.

This sounds like the Dark Souls of God of War upgrade systems.
So is it open world then?
Yes, I love how much of norse mythology is being used. This one is going to be a treat.
Two dwarfs to beef up my arsenal?
They'd have to take me for a drink first, and only after the second date.
@CountFunkula78 this made me laugh like an idiot. Kudos sir!
I thought thor was from space.
@Krest_arisen It's only a soft-reboot, so the previous games will have still happened, they probably just won't be acknowledged much, if at all.
the best PlayStation franchise of all times is coming.can't wait
@Octane It doesn't look it, I think it's more along the lines of the recent Tomb Raiders where you have sizeable maps to explore, find collectables and lore etc but still keeps a fairly linear path.
@adf86 I see, but are those two dwarves in every level/map? I have a difficult time imagining the idea of a linear game and finding characters to upgrade weapon. The latter is more of an open world thing.
I wonder how linear it will be, and if the kid will be an invincible ally. I'm imagining this game is going to be something special either way.
@Octane Maybe you can call on them at any time or at certain points like how Lara could only upgrade at bonfires.
@adf86 Maybe.. a bit silly I think, but I need to see it first.
@Octane Well I don't think it's an open world game cos the devs have never said as such, like I say it's probaby more structured like Tomb Raider meets Dark Souls.
Is this going to be like tomb raiderthe last of us style.
@ShogunRok This is the most underrated comment on this site.
This is the Demon's Souls of comments.
