Let's face it: we don't know much about Death Stranding or how it plays. Kojima's gone off on a few tangents in the past, alluding to stealth and hitting people with sticks - if we remember right - but it's difficult to picture gameplay until we've actually seen it. Still, at least we know that it's not going to join the ranks of Resident Evil 7 as a horror title, since the visionary has said as much in a recent interview with Glixel.
"I don't have a dark mindset in particular. Death Stranding is not a horror game. I just wanted to make something that looks very unique, something you haven't seen before, something with a more artistic slant to it. I'm not pursuing a dark aspect to the game," Kojima explained. It's an interesting quote, because the trailers that we've seen so far have definitely had a dark edge to them, but clearly there's much more to the title than that.
"Humor is a very important aspect for games. You play a game for a very long time – Death Stranding is a big game, too – and you put stress on the player and you lead them through peaks and valleys. Humor is an important aspect to make sure the player can enjoy playing across these peaks and valleys," Kojima continues. Let's not forget that the Metal Gear series is full of daft moments, and we suppose that aspect is going to bleed into this project.
Still, Kojima goes on to say that Death Stranding is "a new idea", and it's the game that the development team was most enthusiastic about making. As always, we're just eager to see more. E3, anyone? Maybe? Make some predictions in the comments section below.

Given Kojima's history, you'd think by now he would just get to work on the game and quit talking about it. He's promoting something that even he has no idea what it will be, and it's still years away. He went through 2 or 3 scrapped version of MGSV before settling on what we got, and that didn't turn out the best either. A little more humility, less traveling the world and pretending he knows what his game will be at this stage.
Its all well and good saying what genre it isnt.
But that doesnt tell us what it is.
Im not sure its even a game, really.
I liked MGSV...
well if he didn't want people to think it was a horror game then why have all the trailers felt like they were showing us a horror game?
I'm still worried he needed the structure of a big company to reign him in.
All I know is the game's going to be good, I never disappointed by kojima games, from metal gear to zoe
@Mega-Gazz I heard sony is pretty big
Would've been more clearer if they showed some gameplay or say what genre it is.
Doesn't seem like they're building hype, just that they have nothing to show but don't want people to loose interest :s
Too bad. After his Silent Hill demo and the videos he showed about Death Stranding, I was expecting it to be a horror game.
Whatever genre it is, though, this game is not coming to PS4. It's Kojima, after all... If we're lucky, it might be an early PS5 title and come to PS4 as well.
How can he tell?
I don't mind this, since I have a cruddy history with horror games.
It should be. He should make PT alone...Just like call it P something T something and it would sell like crazy...
I found an article at Metal Gear Informer with more info if anyone's interested:

Didn't look like a horror game. More of a pretentious action epic like MGS.
But it is a game ...right? An actual game? Yes? Yes ...So that's something at least ...
Would have been nice to have a horror game to fill the void of Silent Hills, but as long as it's good then its fine with me.
@wiiware yes, Sony is big but they are just publishing. He has his own company now, Kojima Productions. Time will tell.
@Vix Maybe. He said previously that he wants to break new ground, giving the example of how stealth action wasn't a thing before MGS, and he wants to do the same thing, give people something completely new. I'll look for the quote.
@Vix here is the quote:
source: http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/ps4/feature/a797994/hideo-kojima-interview-norman-reedus-starring-death-stranding-is-an-action-game-metal-gear-solid-not-a-silent-hills-substitute/
@Mega-Gazz I think he called it an action game like assassin creed and death will be different if I remember correctly. Maybe after the character death, we're not playing the same norman reedus, but another him from different dimension/alternate reality..
It's probably going to be an open world TPS that's basically like MGSV but with far more interesting events and characters and with a less watered-down and mainstream-feeling. Basically like MGS1-4 but in an engine like MGSV.
There are even parallels, albeit vague ones. The Norman Reedus character seems to be a soldier like Snake, he even looks quite like Snake. The images we've seen make him seem lonely, which is something Snake always projected as well. The Del Toro character seems like an Otakon character, not suited for the battlefield yet forcing himself through it anyway. The kind of guy that Reedus will rescue and then get lots of exposition from. He does also give vibes of the kind of fat politician that crops up in MGS games, the type that's usually a cowardly. It could go either way. Then finally, Mads' character looks like a classic MGS boss. Within the story, and given how much time Kojima is spending with Mads in Japan recently, he probably isn't just a one-off boss like, say, Sniper Wolf. He'll be like an Ocelot figure to Reedus' Snake-like character.
I'll check back on this post in 2021 when this game finally comes out as a launch game for PS5.
Watch the language, I don't want to have to remind you again. -Tasuki-
I kinda wish it was a horror game, but I'm still interested anyway. The trailers have been mesmerizing so far even if they're not indicative of gameplay!
