Let’s face it: Sony’s big 12 Deals of Christmas initiative has been about as tasty as a plate full of Brussels sprouts. There have been some reasonable offers here and there, but nothing that’s going to set your trousers on fire – and this week is similar, even if there is a loophole that you may not actually be aware of.
Indeed, the platform holder doesn’t spell it out, but because Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare supports cross-buy, this latest discount is one of the better ones. Activision’s first-person shooter can be purchased for as low as £36.99 on the PlayStation 4 and £29.99 on the PlayStation 3. However, if you cough up for the latter, you’ll get both versions anyway, which is pretty cheap.
The other reduced release is Ys: Memories of Celceta, which has been chopped down to £11.99. Considering that the platform holder’s actually supported PlayStation Plus for this one, you can grab the title for under a tenner, which may be worth it if you’re after a rock solid role-playing game. Digital discounts are always... pretty poor. The prices start so high that "discounts" bring them down to what the game was selling for on disc, and by that time you can buy it for half as much anyway.
@Knocks I think it is getting better though. It may be wishful thinking but I think Sony is realizing the potential of game sales. But I agree with you, a deal for only a single game each is not appealing when compared to many deals on many games.
Yet the cross buy discount is for UK only for some strange reason. Here both versions are 45 euros. Still cheaper than local retailers though.
With all the money saved on shipping and manufacturing costs (nevermind retail cost on exclusives) digital downloads should be FAR cheaper than physical copies.. truly shows the greed of the industry.
Digital downloads and often more expensive than the shops to appease the retailers. I read an article that said retailers have threatened to stop stocking their games if they are consistently undercut but digital.
