Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare PS4 2

As amazing as the initiative is, cross-buy has largely been reserved for smaller digital games thus far, outside of some big first-party forays like PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. Despite this, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – arguably one of the biggest releases this holiday – will be adopting the promotion if you decide to purchase the game digitally. Not bad, huh?

Basically, if you buy Sledgehammer Games’ futuristic first-person shooter on the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3 before 31st March, you’ll be able to unlock the alternate release for free. Now, you’ll need to manually complete the transaction – there are instructions through here – and you’ll also have to ensure that you’re buying via the PlayStation Store, but this seems like a darn good deal to us.

We suppose that Activision’s hoping to catch consumers who are currently in between generations, which makes sense, as we daresay that a fair few PS3 owners will be looking to upgrade this Christmas. Still, this may also come in useful for Trophy hunters as well, as there’s a good chance that you'll have two sets of trinkets to acquire if you opt to take advantage of this deal.

It’s also worth mentioning that Season Pass purchases will be cross-buy as well, and there’s no time limitation on when you can take advantage of that. And, of course, if you pre-order the title, you’ll also be eligible to Day Zero access, which will allow you to play 24 hours before everyone else. How can you tell that Call of Duty sales are declining a little bit?
