The view from Sony HQ

It won’t come as much of a surprise, but Destiny didn’t just improve PlayStation 4 sales in North America. An MCV report – which cites a senior industry source quoting Chart-Track data – states that sales of Sony’s super machine were boosted up by 300 per cent week-over-week in the UK due to the release of Bungie’s next big thing.

The percentage alone doesn’t mean a whole lot without firm figures, but apparently last week was the biggest of the year so far for PS4 hardware sales. Supposedly, it managed to outsell its closest competitor the Xbox One by two systems to one, which improves upon the 1.5:1 ratio that the platform holder has previously touted in the region.

Moreover, even the PlayStation 3 enjoyed a good week, outselling the Xbox 360, which is uncommon on these shores. Sony bought into an “unprecedented partnership” with Activision for the launch of its new intellectual property, which seems to have been a smart bit of business. Now, we wonder if it’s got a deal with Grand Theft Auto V...
