Shadows Of The Damned Looks Fine, But Considerably Less Exciting Than We'd Anticipated.

It's probably something we shouldn't do in the first place. But it's hard to not be disappointed by the long-awaited announcement of Shinji Mikami and Suda51's "horror" project; officially announced this morning as Shadows Of The Damned.

Perhaps it's a matter of expectation. Shinji Mikami (of Resident Evil fame) and Suda51 (of Killer7 and No More Heroes fame) are extraordinary game designers. When it was announced they'd be teaming up with Silent Hill's sound designer Akira Yamaoka for a new horror title we went a little nuts. Siren: Blood Curse aside, there's been a lack of true horror this generation, and we had high hopes that Suda and Shinji would deliver.

Shadows Of The Damned is not what we expected.

Mikami's described the game as a "psychological action thriller" with a "punk rock style". Personally, we could do without the "action" and "punk rock". Psychological thriller would have suited us, guys. Suda claims it's the best game he's ever worked on.

You can grab the trailer after the jump. It looks fine. But it's just not what we were expecting. Especially from two of the biggest names in video games.
