If you're looking for good couch multiplayer, I recommend Nintendoland - I have played countless hours in the three competitive multiplayer modes of that game. If it weren't for Johann Sebastian Joust, it would probably be my favourite multiplayer game in recent memory.
As opposed to writing an essay I will simply recommend Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. I couldn't stand either the original Donkey Kong Country Returns or its 3DS port, but Tropical Freeze is far and away my favourite game on the Wii U.
My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario 3D World, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, Zelda Wind Waker HD, Pushmo World, Stealth inc 2, Shovel Knight, W101, Hyrule Warriors... Those are the best games
Bayonetta 2 its a must, game of the year so far for me, the art design and the epicness would kick any game's ass any day of the week.
Obviously, it all depends on your personal tastes - but Mario Kart 8 and ZombiU are definitely great games to start with!
