Topic: PS1 Games That Won't Kick Your Butt (Too Hard)?

I've always been interested in building up a PS1 library, as I was more of an N64 kid during it's time, but honestly don't know where to start, as I've never been able to beat any of the 3 PS1 games I do have. Either growing up, or more recently, I've been able to beat a certain number of retro games on other systems (Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Pokémon R/B & G/S, and Kirby's Dream Land to name a few), but my PS1 games seem to be made of sterner (or archaic, maybe) stuff, and am not sure if they're pretty par for the course, or if I should at least try beating one before making a new purchase?

I currently have:

Crash Bandicoot - I do find it to be a very fun DKC like platformer, but due to the odd save system (where you can only save if you manage to access, and complete a secret bonus level, every other level), I always stall at the exact same point in the game.

Contra: Legacy of War - Probably my favorite of the bunch, but also by far the most difficult. It takes me nearly all my lives just to beat level one (on Easy even, I believe), so have never been able to beat level 2 (at least I can beat level 1, which I couldn't as a kid).

Gex 3 - Biggest problem is that it's so archaic, and I generally don't have the time to figure out what's going on before having to shut it off (I've had more TV time lately than usual, so maybe I should try this one again...).

Whatever the case, it may be awhile before I can buy anything, as I'm saving up for a new tablet, but it'd be nice to get some feedback.
