Hi there, I do not own a PS 4 yet, but I am really eager to buy PS VR upon launch here on 13 October. However, where I live the PS 4 Pro is only released on 10 November. Just in relation to the PS VR ( dont mind 4 k), is it advisable to wait and buy PS VR with PS 4 Pro?

There is already a PS4 Pro thread and no doubt this will be closed as a result.

However to answer your question before that happens, the PS4 Pro is launching on 10th November virtually everywhere as far as I know. Certainly won't be available before the PSVR headset arrives so if you don't want to wait for the Pro, the ONLY way to play VR at the release date is on PS4. There is nothing stopping you buying the headset in Oct and then a month later, buying the Pro - it may save spending all that money in one month. The Headset alone costs the same as the Pro (at least in most places I believe). I don't know where you live but here in the UK its £350 (RRP) for each. That makes the cost £700 but you also need a camera too which is £50 (RRP) and maybe you want the Move controllers too - an additional £70 (RRP on a twinpack at Amazon) which makes the bundle cost £820 without even considering the games ir a PS+ subscription if you want/need it. You could save about £100 (or more with some deals) by opting for a PS4 and maybe picking up some items 2nd hand (camera - although these could go up in price due to demand) and/or leaving some items to a later date (Move). It could end up costing well over £1000 to actually have a few games to play on all this hardware.

According to Sony, PS4 Pro can have 'some' additional benefits but could depend on how developers want to use the extra power. Some games could see improved visuals - like higher quality textures, better lighting, Shadows etc and/or improved frame rates. Some PS4 VR games will be at 60fps but could run at 90fps, others could see a 90fps on PS4 and 120fps on PS4 Pro. So far very little information has been released concerning VR and the difference the Pro can make but according to Sony, no VR game will be released for the Pro only.

As someone who has been a gamer for 40yrs, I can see games increasing in complexity and requiring more processing power. I can see this happening quite rapidly with VR as developers become more accustomed to the process of developing for VR. They also have a lot more processing power at their disposal for creating these games too. The one thing the PSVR headset has though is a consistent set of parameters - such as resolution and motion sensors. That means that developers don't need to push resolution higher or programme for additional sensors. Its possible we may see some upscaling in the future on the PS4 versions to maintain at least a 60fps and minimise motion lag but that's me speculating based on historical gaming progress.

I have never seen a situation though were more processing power wasn't beneficial and considering the price difference between a PS4 Slim and a PS4 Pro, I would certainly go for the Pro - especially as you haven't already bought the PS4. However its not my money and I don't know your personal circumstances so ultimately you will have to decide on what you can afford and what's the best option for you.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
