Topic: Network card falling apart, replacement options

Hi all,

The network card of my launch PS5 is on its last legs. So posting in here to see what ppl would do in my position.

Would you:

Replace it with a new slim model?

Replace it with the fat model when on sale in black Friday?

Replace it with a fat digital model when on sale in black Friday?

I have a few physical PS5 and PS4 games, so could live with the digital until the pro model comes out. With the disk edition, I'd probably be less inclined to replace it with the pro.

Thanks

I would contact Sony, even if the warranty has expired it should still be cheaper to have Sony fix it then to buy a whole new console.

Thanks for the replies, not sure why I didn't get a notification.

@Max_Headroom This is probably the best thing to do. Will do what @Genocide3681 suggests first though to see if they can give me a rough price. Though they couldn't even collect my faulty PSVR2 from where I live. So might be forced to buy a new one.

What is wrong with it exactly? If wired doesn't work but wireless does, you can consider selling it with the disclosure that it has known issues with the ethernet port. Many people only run wireless and might not care.

@Genocide3681 It will probably cost about $230 (if in US). I had issues with my HDMI port on my launch PS5 and had to pay $230 for it to get fixed. Still cheaper than new for sure, but I wish the price was more reasonable. It makes it a tough decision considering the age of the whole system.

Could i ask why you think the card is on its way out?

If it is why not sell it as Nathan suggested or use the Wi-Fi ?

The wireless is not working properly and because of where it is I can't cable it. Not sure how much I could get for it though. Everything else is fine, so kind of annoying. @NathanUC @Max_Headroom

@Max_Headroom had those a while ago and never got close to the same speed as the wireless.

That makes no sense whatsoever unless you have a problem with your house wiring they would be done for false advertising if they didnt give a speed boost over Wi-Fi.

@Max_Headroom Yea there's something up with the way the house is wired. They worked a lot better in a house I was renting but when I bought this one they didn't work as well. The room has 2 plugs and both were just bad. Has been a couple of years since I used them though. So maybe newer versions might work better. It's not something I've been keeping tabs on though. Guess could buy and then sell them on if they're still not improving the speed. Might get back a decent amount.

@Max_Headroom @Nexozi I tried those in the flat I lived I before and the speed boost was not noticeable. So they do not work for everyone, but I know some people swear by them.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
