By the time this comes out Arc Raiders will probably have taken the genre by storm, is polished within its third season and have people their time, their wallet and friends already invested and not bothered to switch games.
So Marathon will just be minor second and another failure. Then Sony can finally go back to making award winning story driven AAA games. They have released so little exclusive games that a PS6 is a very bad investment for just a few games during a whole generation like they are seem to be doing now.
People keep being mad at third party developers and praise first party titles.
According to an interview with the Alan Wake devs implementing this took a considerable amount of development time and many people in the organisation where needed because these usually require engine engineers too. Those companies are busy on their next games, DLC's or updates.
Sony probably send one of their own people or one of their porting studios to the first party developers to implement PSSR.
However it is just dumb that they all seem to remove the old options, but maybe that is a Sony requirement as well.
The only ones this look bad for is Sony. They have to certify these patches. And if they don't think they aren't up to standards for their platform they just should not approve them.
The failure of Concord will send a message to all big publishers who want to bet on a game as a service type of game that they should be free to play, or it will fail spectacularly.
Hopefully Sony also sees how outdated their business models are on gaming.
1. They have the worst subscription out there with PSN+ compared to all other publishers who have day 1 exclusives on their premium tiers and offer the ultimate deluxe editions in those plans. Sony is the only one that doesn't and gives you a measly few hour trial if you are lucky. Most people who have PSN, have it out of necessity and not because they actually want to subscribe to what the service offers.
2. Sony is the only big publisher who still hasn't released a free to play first party title. All others have at least or more of these games out (Microsoft, Ubi, Epic, EA, ...). Sony will have to realize that people don't buy into these games anymore like it is 2018. As seen with Concord, they rather kill and refund a game than make it actually free.
3. Sony doesn't have any big hitters this whole year of games where they got famous and big for. Stuff like God Of War, Spiderman, Last Of Us, Uncharted, Horizon etc. But they do have PlayStation Pro coming, but without first party exclusives to show off the reason to buy this hardware.
4. They did have a custom controller and a TV shop episode lined up for something generic as Concord, but didn't have one for Helldivers2, a PVE game from a third party studio that did something very original and took them by surprise.
They really should do better market analysis and focus on their strengths instead of chasing new uncertain ones.
@AdamNovice I consider this a huge win. I am not interested in cosmetic stuff so this business model is much better for some people. This game will be a good example so that other publishers don’t try this outdated GAAS business model anymore the coming years.
Let this be a good lesson for Sony charging 40 euro for what should have been free to play. It will also make sure that no other publishers try this ever again for a GAAS PVP only title going forward.
Also: such this must hurt very very very hard for the devs.
This is like a first ever that a AAA title get pulled after a week and a half.
They also had a special controller for this (the only one never to sell out before a games release) and an episode in ‘Secret Level’, that animation series of the makers of Love, Death, Robots between episodes of giants like God Of War, Warhammer etc.
They shouldn't fire the developers. Technically they are very talented. Played the beta and animation quality, fidelity, sound design etc are all top notch.
It is everything else that is lackluster and execs should take responsibility here because they made all the wrong decisions by letting this art design pass and didn't fight for a better business model that isn't outdated by 4 years.
Firewalk is 180 people according to the internet. They should replace top execs for this failure and make it a support studio to help out Sony their other main studios. That way everybody 'wins' from all this mess.
Quick matches is all great but I see on the Reddit of this game lots of complaints that matchmaking is ignoring skill (MMR), latency (ping) and solo's vs stacks, leading in to horrible experience.
Solo players are talking about stomps and a 90 percent loss rate.
That is the other side of the coin if they only prioritize matchmaking speed instead of quality.
@DDDD They can give them some 'founders pack' with a bunch of free credits to buy from the microtransaction store that comes out in October to give them back something.
From what I have read it is more a problem with matchmaking quality and not times, because they turned of MMR (which results in stomps) and region locks (which results in huge latency spikes).
The longer Sony waits to do something about the business model, the further is sinks.
Don't forget they also made a controller for it. The only limited edition that has yet to sell out
Man these devs must have had a rough weekend. Living in this excited bubble for all these years build up to a release and then realise you have one of the biggest AAA flops in gaming history and nobody shows up for your party
Over at Reddit I already saw people complaining about matchmaking times now that it a weekday. There were also a bunch of complaints about matchmaking quality now that the game has a very small community playing in groups of 5 butchering new casual players.

Re: Firaxis Unveils Civilization 7 Content Roadmap for 2025 and Beyond
Keep in mind that the current and futures ages WILL NOT BE IN THE GAME AT LAUNCH. They said that in a dev video
So you are better off waiting for a while. You get bug fixes, free updates, a more complete game for a lower price.
Re: Veteran Helldivers Called to Arms in Omens of Tyranny PS5, PC Deep Dive
I am going to reinstall this again this weekend.
Also reported the site for trying to circumvent the ad lists and put in a custom rule for the time being. Cat and mouse and all
Re: Fans Frustrated with Avatar's Disappointing PS5 Pro Patch
@Juanalf Forbidden West and Zero Dawn don't use PSSR. They use their own rendering solution.
What technology games use doesn't matter though. As long as it looks good and has good performance like forbidden west.

Re: Internal Sony Fairgame$ Chatter Is Reportedly Quite Positive
Well at least it is going to be free now, that's for sure the biggest win out of all of this.
